Tony Penecale’s New Bi-Weekly Column

There will be a new bi-weekly column on Fight News Unlimited entitled “Fantasy Dream Matches”. Since my Preview and Prediction articles have been very popular, I wanted to do something where I can match past and present fighters in their primes, analyze their strengths and weaknesses and come up with a result.

Some matchups that I am already considering:

Welterweight – Miguel Cotto (present) vs Felix Trinidad (1994 version)

Heavyweight – Joe Frazier (1971) vs Mike Tyson (1988)

Middleweight – Bernard Hopkins (2001) vs Carlos Monzon (1973)

Welterweight – Sugar Ray Leonard (1981) vs Floyd Mayweather (present)

Heavyweight – George Foreman (1973) vs Lennox Lewis (2000)

Middleweight – Sugar Ray Robinson (1948) vs Roy Jones Jr (1994)

Heavyweight – Muhammad Ali (1967) vs Joe Louis (1937)

If you have any matchups that you would like to see included, please contact me at phllybox1@aol.com with your inquiry.

Rules:

All Fights will be 15 rounds.
3 Judges will be used for each bout.
The 3 Knockdown Rule will not be in effect.
I will only consider a fighter if he actually participated in the weight class and I will use that version of him (example – any requests for Roy Jones Jr at heavyweight will get the 2003 version who won a decision over John Ruiz).
I will not be including any MMA fighters unless they competed in a sanctioned boxing match. So until Kimbo actually steps in the boxing ring, I will not match him with Tyson.
