Wrestling Sisters Brittany and Brienna chased down a suspected hit-and-run driver last Saturday and used wrestling to hold him until police arrived.

Brittany Delgado and her sister are very proficient wrestlers who know about tackling, they also played football in high school. Brittany told us that they performed several moves with the goal to stop your opponent.

Brittany is a 21 year old senior and starter for the OCU women’s wrestling team while her sister Brienna is a 19 year old incoming freshman and come from South Carolina.

The two young women were spending the last bit of summer, the last free weekend with their grandmother and while driving they collided with another car. The girls got out and were helping their grandmother when they saw the driver of the other car running away. Brienna started Chasing the man and yelling “You need to come back”. She tackled him and he landed with his hands beneath. She used strength and wrestling holds to bring his hands behind his back and realized the man might have a gun or knife, she moved quickly to secure his hands.

Brittany ran to help her sister stand the man up and bring him back to the cars. Brittany told us “He wasn’t stopping. If Brienna wouldn’t have tackled him, I’m pretty sure he would have gotten away,”

Growing up in South Carolina the girls have some incredible High school memories and both knew they wanted to wrestle at an early age. Their father had competed in high school and it became a family interest.

Brittany Delgado told us that she remembers sitting at a wrestling practice when she was three and asking her mom if she could wrestle.  Her mom was quick to say no, but later changed her mind when she saw another woman on the floor. Fast Forward Eighteen years, Brittany Delgado is now a two-time national champion in the Women’s College Wrestling Association .

Following in her sister’s footsteps, Brienna Delgado also began wrestling at an early age and both girls have a history of competing against men in South Carolina, Coach Randall told us that he’s not surprised their initial reaction was to run after the man and tackle him. He went on to say that the Delgado’s are typical young women wrestlers. They’re very aggressive and determined.  Coach Randall told us that Brienna had scratches and cuts on her knees but was more concerned about the damage to the car.

School starts the 22nd and the first wrestling match is scheduled for October.  While the hit-and-run story has become sort of comical and will likely will be retold to their teammates and friends.  Coach Randall thinks It amplifies their personalities,” He told us that “They’re great students with goals to be Olympians. They’re driven, and I think that was a normal reaction for them.”
