Matt Lackey Buffalo head wrestling coach Jim Beichner has announced the hiring of new head assistant coach Matt Lackey, a former NCAA national champion. Lackey will be assuming the role immediately after spending two seasons as an assistant at Lock Haven University. “I’ve had the privilege to know Matt for many years and I am confident that he is a great fit for our staff and our wrestlers,” Beichner said. As a collegiate wrestler for the University of Illinois, Lackey was a 2003 national champion among his three trips to the All-American podium. Brittany Delgado The Delgado Sisters are Oklahoma City University wrestlers who detained a driver after a car accident in Oklahoma City. Wrestling Sisters Brittany and Brienna chased down a suspected hit-and-run driver last Saturday and used wrestling to hold him until police arrived. Brittany Delgado and her sister are very proficient wrestlers who know about tackling, they also played football in high school. Brittany told us that they performed several moves with the goal to stop your opponent. Brittany is a 21 year old senior and starter for the OCU women’s wrestling team while her sister Brienna is a 19 year old incoming freshman and come from South Carolina. Jamill Kelly Jamill Kelly, silver medalist in the 2004 Summer Olympics, has been hired as an assistant wrestling coach at Cal Poly. The announcement was made Tuesday by Mustang director of athletics Don Oberhelman as well as Brendan Buckley, hired June 21 as Cal Poly’s head wrestling coach. Buckley previously was head coach at Columbia for 11 seasons. Kelly was a two-time NCAA qualifier wrestling for Oklahoma State and lettered twice in the sport after attending Lassen Community College for one year. David Ray EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. — Donovan McMahill, a two-time national champion, has been named an assistant coach for the SIUE wrestling program. McMahill was the 2011 NCAA Division II National Tournament Outstanding Wrestler and Wrestler of the Year for Western State (Colo.) College.
