The inaugural event for the Muay Thai Premier League takes place on September 2 with Stars and Stripes, the first event in what is a 10-month season planned around showcasing the best Muay Thai fighting in the world. The first round takes place at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California, with other events scheduled to take place in Rome, Amsterdam, and Bangkok, all to crown the Muay Thai Premier League Champion of Champions in several different weight classes. Stars and Stripes kicks off the start of the season with a 12-bout event, featuring both male and female fighters competing in five different weight classes. On top of the tournament action, Stars and Stripes is headlined by two Superfights, where titles will be on the line!
In the main event, the WMC World Junior Middleweight Title (154 lb) will be at stake as Buakaw Por. Pramuk (197-21-12, Thailand) battles Warren Stevelmans (54-14-4, South Africa) for the prestigious championship. With close to 200 victories to his credit, Por. Pramuk is one of the elder statesmen in Muay Thai and his commitment and consistency to the sport is unmatched. He hails from the birthplace of Muay Thai (Thailand) and plans to give the fans in attendance and watching live on GFL.tv a highlight reel of authentic hard hitting and kicking Muay Thai fighting. His opponent, Stevelmans, is also a grizzled veteran in the sport and will not be intimidated by the living legend that is standing across the ring from him. Both fighters always push the action and look for a knockout but these men have trained their bodies to take an inhuman amount of punishment so fight fans could be in for a real treat if this fight goes the distance. Make no mistake, Buakaw Por. Pramuk and Warren Stevelmans will put on a show that will have the whole sport talking.
In the co-main event, the WMC Intercontinental Junior Middleweight Championship (154 lb) will be on the line as Champion Baxter Humby (39-7, USA) defends his title against Zidov Domenik (55-25, Switzerland). Humby won the title in 2010 and has been on a tear for the last year, but he has never faced an opponent like Domenik who has a very high percentage of knockouts for this sport with 43 of his 55 victories coming by KO. In a sport that requires you to deliver vicious blows to your opponent, nobody does that better than the challenger, Domenik. The champion is in for a dog fight, but Humby should have the crowd at his back as he is fighting in his home country and will look to deliver an impressive victory to what no doubt will be a rabid crowd.
In tournament action, Nathan Corbett (52-2, Australia) fights Tomas Hron (54-14-2, Czech Republic) and Filip Verlinden (37-6-1, Belgium) battles Martin Jahn (40-10) where the winners will advance in the heavyweight division. There are still four more divisions on this card!
If you love nonstop, full-throttle striking, then Muay Thai Premier League Stars and Stripes, is must-see TV. This event kicks off the most important series of Muay Thai shows ever. Watch as the brave warriors display the science of the eight limbs and use punches, kicks, knees and elbows as they take the first step in becoming the Muay Thai Premier League Champion of Champions. Steven Katz and CMA Fighting Present: Evolution Fighting Championships 7 Summer Bash
Evolution Fighting Championships 7’s card is finalized. There will be 16 big fights on the card, with 3 titles on the line. The show takes place this Saturday, Sept 3, at the Rahway Rec Center in Rahway, New Jersey. Doors open at 5:00pm and the event begins at 6:00pm.
In the main event, Ben Syers takes on Caleb Solano in a long awaited showdown that has fans buzzing. Syers is reigning and defending Evolution FC champion and Solano is the man who wants to take his belt. Promoter Steven Katz, who is also the Evolution Fighting matchmaker, is excited about this match up.
“They’ve both been working their striking,” said Katz. “They’ve both been working their takedowns and takedown defense. As far as their training, as far as their striking to grappling, they’re both pretty much equally focused. Technically speaking, who has the better striking or who has the advantage in striking, that we’ll see Saturday night. They’ve both shown the willingness to step up and bang and throw shots. It’s a great fight and I’m glad it’s on my show.”
In the co-main event, Mark Agnew was supposed to be fighting for the vacant 147 pound title against Dwayne Holman, but he’s out of the country and won’t be back in time. So Team Renegade fight Taylor Costantino, Syers’s teammate, has stepped up to take his place and challenge Holman. Costantino’s decision to fight has impressed Steve Katz.
“You got a 19 year old kid, with one fight, who is coming off that victory,” Katz explained. “He’s been prepared to fight for some time now. I had trouble matching him up in March, the fights fell through. It was just bad luck. Then in June he was on deck at the Asylum and the show gets cancelled after six fights and he doesn’t get to fight. Now this comes along and he steps up to take it. Dwayne Holman’s been boxing a long time. He’s got remarkably good hands, good footwork. And Taylor steps up to take the fight.”
In the third title bout, this one for the 126 pound strap, Caleb Solano’s brother Ariel takes on Mike Colon. This match too is going to be a barnburner.
“Both of these guys have something to prove in this fight,” Katz said. “So that’s going to be another great fight, 126 pounds, for that belt, which is vacant. And the contenders for that belt, I’ve got a lot of guys fighting between 130-135 pounds that can make 126.”
The entire card is stacked, and Katz has been getting a lot of positive feedback from fans.
“I’m really happy with the card,” he said. “I’ve got a great card here. I’ve gotten comments, emails and online notices about the fight card. People are looking forward to it.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 718-607-4158. The fights begin at 6:00pm. Doors open at 5:00pm at the Rahway Rec Center, 275 East Milton Avenue, Rahway, New Jersey, 07065. For fans who can’t make it to the venue, the fights will also be broadcast on GoFightLive.tv.
