John Duddy: Ready For War!
By Matt Yanofsky
Today only hours before the weigh in, I had the pleasure of speaking with rising Middleweight Star John Duddy 18-0 {13 KO’s}. Duddy is coming off his biggest victory of his career against former World Champion Yory Boy Campos.
Tomorrow, he will be taking on Anthony Bonsante in front of a sold out crowd at the MSG Theater. If you don’t have a ticket, you can order the fight for only $24.95 on Pay Per View. Fans can visit John at IrishRopes.Com.
MY: John what’s up? Your last fight against Yory Boy Campas was one of the best in 2006. Fans were treated to a twelve round war where you came up victories in a very close fight. What does it mean to you to beat a fighter of that caliber?
JD: It was great for my career but it doesn’t mean much to me at this moment. I am 100 percent focused on my fight tomorrow. I know Bonsante is a very tough opponent and I am prepared for anything he comes with.
MY: A few months back, I was at a press conference for you to announce your scheduled fight in January. You ended up announcing your eye was not fully healed from your war with Campos and you were not going to be able to fight. How disappointing was that to you?
JD: Not really. I was happy to great a break after a very tough fight. It would not have been smart to get in the ring without my cuts being fully healed.
MY: Tomorrow you are slated to face Anthony Bonsante. He is a tough and rugged middleweight. How do you feel about him and what did you add to your training camp to prepare for him?
JD: Just worked a lot on my weaknesses specifically moving my head, jabs, and being in the best shape. I am prepared for 12 rounds with a very aggressive fighter im ready for war!
MY: Right now you are defiantly the most popular fighter in New York. Irish fans fill the arena every time you come to fight. What does it mean to you to have such great fan support with you at all times?
JD: Its awesome I love! It it’s a great experience and I’m so happy they support me I will work hard so they keep coming to watch me fight!
MY: Kelly Pavlik has made similar progress to yours and neither of you are very far from a title fight and you are both undefeated. How would you feel about a fight with Kelly Pavlik?
JD: I haven’t thought about it specifically, but if it happens, it happens. We are both young and undefeated, so there’s a good chance it can become a reality if there is a big public demand for it.
MY: John thanks for your time! What do you have to say to your fans?
JD: Thanks for supporting me throughout my career so far. I can’t even tell you how important it is to me. Keep watching for me and if you can’t get to the arena tomorrow watch the fight on TV. It will be a great battle.
