TACHI PALACE CASINO
On June 26, 2008 Don Juan Futrell (21-3-2, 10 KO’s) fought Lowell Brownfield (10-4-1, 3 KO’s) in the main event at the Tachi Palace Casino in Lemoore CA. On the line was Futrell’s WBC USNBC light welterweight title.
The action started off slow, but heated up in the second round when Brownfield dropped Futrell with a powerful left hook. Futrell would get off the canvas and fight his way back to a close round. As the fight continued both fighters would have their moments. Futrell landed some nice combos in the middle rounds while Brownfield boxed well from the outside late. When the final bell rang, both fighters thought they won. Judge Michael Tate had it 95-93 for Brownfield, judge Abe Belardo scored it 93-96 for Futrell, and judge Ralph McKnight saw it even at 94-94, making it a draw.
With the scoring by the judges, the WBC USNBC light welterweight title becomes vacant. A possible rematch between Futrell and Brownfield on August 21, 2008 are in discussion, when the Tachi Palace presents its next show.
