Hearn excited by promising Birmingham pair

Matchroom Sport are delighted to announce that promising Birmingham fighters Ryan Aston and Tommy Ghent have signed promotional deals.

The decorated amateur duo have already fought on Matchroom bills, with Aston making his debut when Kell Brook fought Lovemore N’dou, and Ghent’s pro bow featuring on the undercard of Brook’s dazzling victory over Rafal Jackiewicz.

Ghent – a 19 year-old Welterweight – represented England many times and won NABC and Golden Glove honours as an amateur, while Aston – a 20 year-old Middleweight – won five national titles among his many medals as an amateur. The former has made a striking start to life in the paid ranks with a second round knockout on debut in Birmingham followed by forcing the second round retirement of Nick Coret in Sheffield after dropping him.

Aston was also due to fight for the first time under the Matchroom banner on the undercard of Brook’s win over Jackiewicz, but a cut from his last fight against Dean Walker though a clash of heads meant he had to miss out. But the 20 year-old is hoping to get out again before the year is out and said it was an easy decision to join Hearn’s impressive stable of British fighters, after leaving David Haye and Adam Booth’s Hayemaker team.

“The plan Eddie put on the table is great – too good to refuse,” said Aston, who is 3-0 at the start of his pro career. “I like Eddie as a person, I boxed on the Brook vs. N’dou show and I enjoyed fighting on his show and talking to him about my career and boxing in general so it made sense.

“The cut has worked out fine, it didn’t need stitching so it’s turned out well so now with a bit of luck I’ll be out again in November.

“I’ve had a great start to my career with Adam Booth and the rest of the Hayemaker team, and the agreement I had with them was one that made this move very easy. I will always be grateful to Adam for the help and guidance he gave me, and to David and George (Groves) too.”

“I am delighted to welcome Ryan and Tommy to the Matchroom Sport stable,” said Hearn. “Ryan debuted on our Sheffield show and appeared on the David Haye show the next week – that shows he has no fear and is eager to get rounds under his belt which is great to see. Tommy has made a perfect start to his pro career and really impressed me in Sheffield, he’s a hot prospect I’ve been aware of for a while now. Both lads have got great people behind them so my job with them both is easy – get them dates so they can showcase their stuff.”
