All-African Pro Boxing Show
Tuesday night, Sept. 23 at Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City
NEW YORK CITY (July 25, 2008) – Bob Duffy’s “Ring Promotions” announced today that it has been hired to promote the inaugural “KnockOut Poverty” pro boxing show, featuring all African boxers, on Tuesday night, September 23 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.
“KnockOut Poverty” is a landmark event to help fight poverty in Africa. Grammy Award-winning, UN Goodwill Ambassador Youssou N’Dour and friends are among the many stars scheduled for the historic evening of entertainment, music and boxing. N’Dour and other musical legends are scheduled to perform between fights with proceeds from the event going to the All For Africa charitable organization.
“I’m honored to be working on such an important fundraiser,” Duffy said. “We’re just involved in the boxing portion of the event, but we’re going to have some of Africa’s best homegrown talent in action September 23rd.”
Africans that have show interest in fighting on this special card include top junior middleweights such as former Commonwealth title-holder Ossie Duran (23-6-1, 9 KOs) from Ghana, ex-IBA champion Evans “African Warrior” Ashir (29-3, 15 KOs) from Kenya, former IBA Continental titlist Eromosele “Bad Boy” Albert from Nigeria; two-time world title challenger, light heavyweight Jaffa Ballagou (45-6, 39 KOs), from Togo; multiple World Muay Thai champion, cruiserweight Manu Ntoh (17-14-1, 10 KOs), from Cameroon.
