“The Winter Championships” which will take place at
The Longshoremen’s Hall at
Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco on December 2, 2011. This boxing event will feature the brightest and most respected young fighters from numerous boxing clubs located within the greater Bay Area. With over 70 boxing clubs located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Northern California has quickly become a hot-bed of fast-rising fistic talent.
Founder of “BoxingSF” Arturo Gastellum states, “This is where it all starts and this is where the next crop of great Bay Area champions will be cultivated from. The Bay Area is blessed with not one but three current pound-for-pound world champions in Andre Ward, Robert Guerrero and Nonito Donaire. Carina Moreno, Ana Julaton and Ava Knight are world champions in women’s boxing as well. In addition, San Francisco’s Karim Mayfield and Salinas’ Eloy Perez are the current NABO champs in their divisions. We hope that with events such as the ‘Winter Championships’ we can not only find but showcase the next boxing superstars based out of the Bay Area.”
“The Winter Championships” will feature 15 match-ups that will include combatants from boxing clubs located in following counties: San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Contra Costa, and Alameda.
The historic venue of the Longshoremen’s Hall has a viewing capacity of 1,600 spectators. Located in Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco, the venue offers plenty of parking and family friendly outlets surrounding the area. The San Francisco Bay Area has a rich, deep-rooted history when it comes to the sweet science both on the amateur and the professional level dating back to the 1880s when the Olympic Club created a wave of Boxing schools & events. The mission of this group is to preserve, protect, and promote the original “Gentleman’s” sport for many generations to come.
