Hofstra Signs Colorado State Champion
Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Wrestling Coach Rob Anspach today announced the signing of 2011 Colorado State champion Dwight Howes to a National Letter of Intent to attend the University commencing in September, 2012.
Howes, a current senior at Arvada High School in Arvada, Colorado, defeated Julian Cota, 14-3, in the 189-pound 4A Colorado State Championship match last February to capture the title and cap a perfect 42-0 season. The three-time all-conference and two-time All-Colorado selection placed second in the Colorado State Championships as a sophomore in 2010 during a 40-2 season. Howes, who was Arvada’s Most Outstanding Wrestler Award winner as a sophomore and junior, also received the Bulldog Award after a 31-5 season as a freshman. Over his three high school seasons, Howes has recorded a 113-7 slate.
Howes, who was a National High School Coaches Association freshman national champion in 2009 and runner-up as a sophomore, was also a junior All-American in Greco-Roman in 2011, a FILA Cadet freestyle All-American in 2010, a Cadet finalist in Greco-Roman at the Fargo Nationals in 2009, and a freestyle All-American in Fargo in 2008.
Howes was also an all-conference selection in football in 2008 and 2011and ran on the cross country team as a sophomore.
