Dear Friends:

As we enjoy the beautiful fall weather our thoughts naturally turn to the upcoming Christmas and
Hanukkah season. We are already seeing retail stores starting to display holiday merchandise
and decorations. Thus, I make my annual holiday appeal to one and all to join in our efforts to
make the holidays better for some of Brooklyn’s neediest families.

Each year we present an extraordinary Holiday Celebration at which we distribute new toys and
books to thousands of children from public housing, shelters, community-based organizations
and faith-based groups. In addition to the Holiday Celebration, we receive many requests from
faith-based institutions and social service organizations asking for toys to distribute to children in
their communities. The only way I can assist them is with your help! Please support our annual
TOY DRIVE by collecting toys from your employees and patrons or ask guests to bring a new
toy to contribute at your annual holiday party. All levels of participation will make a
difference! I look forward to your support this year, because as we all know the need is greater
than ever.

The TOY DRIVE runs from November 21 through December 5. My staff will provide you
with TOY DRIVE POSTERS and boxes for collection. Our office will contact you to
schedule a convenient time for us to pick-up the donated gifts-either on December 6 or 7.

Brooklyn is very fortunate to have businesses and associations that give back to their community
with great generosity. Please fill out the attached participation form and fax it to Eileen
Mullaney-Newman (718-802-3542) if your business will host a TOY DRIVE this year. If you
have any questions, please call Eileen at 718-802-3806 or you can contact her by e-mail:enewman@brooklynbp.nyc.gov. By working together, all of us can make the holidays happier
for some of Brooklyn’s less fortunate children.

Sincerely,
Marty Markowitz
