Senior Ryan Flores has jumped one spot and now sits as the No. 1 nationally-ranked wrestler at 285 lbs in the InterMat poll. This is the first time Flores, the national runner-up and an All-American a season ago, has topped the rankings in his career.

Flores began his season impressively last week, starting with an 11-2 major decision over then-No. 6 Spencer Myers of Maryland in the NWCA All-Star Classic in Tempe, Ariz. on Monday. Flores then competed on Saturday in the Northeast Duals, where he earned falls in each of his three bouts. One of his falls came against a ranked wrestler, No. 16 Peter Sturgeon of Central Michigan, which occurred at the 3:49 mark. His quickest fall of the day was against Penn’s Anthony DiLonardo in 47 seconds.

In his second season at American, the Clovis, Calif., native has now recorded a 29-6 record with 13 falls, three major decisions, and two tech falls. Dating back to last season, he has now won 14 of his last 15 bouts.

For his performance last week, Flores has also been named the AU Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO.
