RAMA, ON – November 21, 2008 – Greg “Steel Pole” Kielsa (8-0, 3 KO’s) thrust himself on the world boxing scene, claiming the Canadian Heavyweight championship in convincing fashion Saturday night at Casino Rama, in Rama, Ont., dethroning Ray Olubowale (7-3-1, 4 KO’s) via ten round unanimous decision.
Kielsa was able to with stand an early onslaught by Olobuwale before beginning to score with crisp stinging shot on the inside, while managing to outmuscle the much larger fighter.
Eventually those stinging shots began adding up, powering the 2000 Polish Olympian to the 97-93, 96-94, 97-93 nod on the scorecards.
“It was a very tough, tough fight,” the new champion said shortly after the final bell.
“I feel very happy with the win, but I know I can improve even more.”
Kielsa’s manager, James Jardine, sees great things ahead for his undefeated charge.
“We’re going to get him in the ring this January in Vegas, and then, once we get him 10 fights, we’ll get him in the world rankings.”
