San Francisco, CA. – January 18, 2012 – Rio de Janeiro wasn’t the only MMA hot spot this weekend. Thousands of fantasy MMA players competed on www.Kountermove.com for nearly $8,000 in cash prizes during UFC® 142. The fantasy MMA site, backed by Randy “The Natural” Couture, continues to gain momentum in the MMA community. It has quickly become a popular destination for MMA fans, fighters and key media players.

According to Aaron Ard, co-founder of Kountermove, “We are thrilled to report that Kountermove experienced a 40% increase in tournament play between UFC® 141 and UFC® 142. The Kountermove movement has gained a great deal of momentum. We couldn’t be happier!”

Mario Yamasaki’s controversial decision to award a first-round victory to Carlo Prater over Erick Silva definitely upped the stakes during Kountermove’s UFC® 142 tournament play. The unpredicted twist stripped Kountermovemembers who drafted Silva of their 100-point, first-round victory bonus. Instead players who picked an unconscious Prater were awarded 100 points for his DQ ‘victory.’

UFC® 142’s most valuable Kountermove fantasy fighter was Gabriel Gonzaga who scored 114 points for a fantasy MMA salary of $4,300. Yuri Alcantara (76 points, $5,400 salary) and Vitor Belfort (112 points, $5,500 salary) were also great draft picks. The least valuable fantasy fighter was Ernaldo Oliveira. His fantasy MMA salary was $5,300 and he yielded zero points during tournament play.

Randy “The Natural” Couture finished 1st out of 50 players in Kountermove’s MMA Media Slam Invitational for UFC® 142. Couture amassed 403.5 fantasy points on the road to victory with his team of Vitor Belfort, Gabriel Gonzaga, Mike Pyle, Antonio Carvalho, and Sam Stout.

Rounding out the top five money winners in Kountermove’s MMA Media Slam Invitational tournament were Erik Fontanez (@Erik_Fontanez) of MMAWeekly.com, Amy Barton (@amesbelle) of MMA Diehards, Matt Saccaro of Bleacher Report (@MattSaccaro), and Matt Erickson of Heavy MMA (@MattErickson23).

Kountermove member Robert Kham clinched the top spot out of over 100 Kountermove players to take home the $480 first-place prize in Crooklyn’s $1,200 Nooner tournament with 441 points.

Kountermove’s fantasy MMA games work very similar to fantasy football. Members draft a team of fighters and compete with that team against other Kountermove players in their league. Members have a $25,000 “salary cap” when drafting their fantasy team of fighters, each fighter has a “salary” designated by Kountermove. Members choose from free or entry fee games of varying sizes.

Winners and losers are then determined by fantasy points earned based on each fighter’s performance – strikes landed, submission attempts, knockdowns, dominant positions, rounds won, and knockout or submission bonuses.

After each event, Kountermove updates game results by listing the points members received for that event, the rankings, and prize pool winners. All entry fees are added into a prize pool that is divided among the league’s winners at the end of the game. Visit www.kountermove.com for full details on the Kountermove fantasy MMAscoring system.
