Coach Bret Corner’s Concordia Falcon’s Flying High, Talks to Takedown

Wrestling Career: A three-time NAIA All-American at UW-La Crosse, Corner was 111-21-1 while competing at 142 lbs. He was sixth in 1984, fifth in 1985, and second in 1986 at the NAIA National Championships. Corner was selected to the NAIA/USA National Team that toured China in June, 1986, the first collegiate team to tour China in any sport. He was inducted into the UW-La Crosse Athletic Wall of Fame in 1998.
In 1982 at the AAU National Championships in Lincoln, Neb., Corner was fifth in Greco-Roman and seventh in Freestyle at 143 lbs.
Heading into his 21st season at CUW, Corner has guided the Falcons to seven conference titles with the most recent coming in 2006. His current career dual meet mark is 98-117-1.Corner has produced one All-American (Edwin Allen) in 1997 and five NWCA Scholar All-Americans. He was voted the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association District 8 Coach of the Year in 2005.
In addition, he has produced 17 National qualifiers; (14 NAIA and three NCAA) and has been voted conference Coach of the Year six times. He is currently the WWCA District 8 Representative for Wisconsin college coaches.
Corner’s teams have twice received NWCA Scholar All-America status at the NCAA Division III level. CUW’s highest national finish was 16th in the NAIA national Championships in 1997.
