RISING STAR DEMETRIUS HOPKINS JOINS LEGENDARY UNCLE BERNARD HOPKINS ON JULY 21 ‘COMING TO FIGHT’ MAJOR SUMMER FIGHT NIGHT AT MANDALAY BAY IN LAS VEGAS AND LIVE HBO PAY-PER-VIEW
LAS VEGAS (July 13, 2007)… The up-and-coming, unbeaten, and current USBA Light Welterweight Champion, 26-year-old Demetrius “The Gladiator” Hopkins will join his uncle, Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins, in the extremely talented lineup for the July 21 fight night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. With a spectacular record of 26-0-1, 10 KO’s—comparable to his uncle’s record around that age—he will take on Jailer Enrique Berrio (11-2, 7 KO’s) in a super lightweight match scheduled for 10 rounds on July 21—the belt will not be on the line. The Hopkins’ fights will be just two of eight thrilling bouts that evening.
Ranked number two by IBF in the Super Lightweight division, Hopkins is the current USBA Light Welterweight Champion after defeating Mario Jose Ramos with a lopsided unanimous decision. His most recent fight was his second successful title defense, with a victory by unanimous decision over Steve Forbes in March. With a growing resume, Hopkins continues to emulate his uncle in his quest for greatness.
Hopkins vs. Wright “Coming to Fight” is for Hopkins’ Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight belt and will take place Saturday, July 21st at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. “Coming to Fight” is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Winky Promotions, and sponsored by Southwest Airlines, Tecate Beer and Rockstar Energy Drink.
