JOEY “MINNESOTA ICE” ABELL RETURNS TO THE LEGENDARY BLUE HORIZON WITH THIRD ROUND STOPPAGE OF WILLIS ON “HEALTH & EDUCATION NIGHT”

PHILADELPHIA (May 17, 2009)—Joey “Minnesota Ice” Abell returned to the Legendary Blue Horizon with a emphatic third round knockout over Billy “The Kid” Willis to highlight a terrific seven bout card that highlighted “Health & Education Night”
Promoter Vernoca L. Michael honored local educators, Dr. Richard Englert (Business) and Dr. Michael Jackson (Director of Graduate programs of Sports & Recreation) of Temple University and local Neurologist, Dr. Emil Materese for their contributions to the community.
Abell dropped Willis early in round three from a left and quickly finished off Willis with another left at the fifty-four second mark of round three of their scheduled six round tussle.
With the win, Abell notched his fourth consecutive knockout to raise his overall mark to 24-4 with twenty-three knockouts. Willis of Houston is now 12-14-1.
The co-feature saw Legendary Blue Horizon favorite, Gee Cullmer raise his record to 16-1 as he scored a close split decision over Clarence “Sonny Bono” Taylor in a six round middleweight bout.
Taylor took some of the early frames but Cullmer got things going and made it a dog fight to pound out the decision by scores of 59-55 & 58-56 while Taylor took a third card by a 59-55 tally.
In one of the most-anticipated pro debuts in a while, Nazareth’s Achmad Tuba showed quick hands and advanced defensive skills to score a four round shutout unanimous decision over Vincent Batteast in a four round Jr. Middleweight fight.
Tuba was the subject of Television & Newspaper coverage as the muslim trains with a team of Jewish fighters in Tel Aviv. Scores were 40-36 on all cards.
For the second straight month, Taneal Goyco and Davit Davitshvilli put on a show for the fans at The Legendary Blue Horizon as they fought a back and forth brawl that once again had Goyco come out in top by scoring a unanimous decision in a four round cruiserweight affair.
