MAYWEATHER VS. MARQUEZ: “NUMBER ONE/NUMERO UNO”
TICKETS GO ON SALE IN THREE DAYS THIS FRIDAY
LOS ANGELES, MAY 19 – The number 30…by itself, it doesn’t mean much, but to boxing superstars Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez, 30 is a very significant number, one that proves that among today’s active fighters, none can match their commitment to fighting the best. On Saturday, July 18, when Mayweather and Marquez step into the ring, it will be the 30th time these two fighters have faced a past, present, or future world champion.
Since turning pro in 2006, Mayweather has compiled a 14-0 record in bouts against 13 fighters who have reached the pinnacle of the sport. Among the champions he has defeated are Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Diego Corrales, Genaro Hernandez, Arturo Gatti, Jose Luis Castillo and Zab Judah.
Marquez’ 11-3-1 slate against fellow world champions is just as impressive, considering that he has defeated the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera, Joel Casamayor, Juan Diaz, Manuel Medina, Derrick “Smoke” Gainer and Agapito Sanchez.
On July 18th, Mayweather and Marquez hope to add the other’s name to their list in one of the most highly-anticipated bouts of the last five years.
