SHOXC DEBUT FEATURES SOME FURIOUS ACTION AFTER SLOW START

The battles that unfolded in the inaugural installment of SHOXC on Friday featured an exhorbitant amount of standup, which is fitting based on where SHOXC took the friday night fight format from. The tone of the early action was a lot like SHOBOX, only with kicks and knees and thinner gloves. Later on, the fists flew and produced a couple huge knockouts, and fans eventually witnessed a few powerful slams punctuating the late action along with some great ground and pound and grappling. The odd-shaped cage and the coordination with King of the Cage for the event was unique and refreshing. Fans who tuned in on-line at Proelite.com were also treated to a host of undercard bouts. Here’s what the fighters had to say about their performances on the premium cable telecast:

KJ Noons vs. Edson Berto vs
Winner: 45 second in round 3 winner by spectacular knock out

KJ Noons:

“This is definitely a different feeling than I had the first time I fought on Showtime but it solidified what I have been saying all along that my last MMA fight was a fluke. Berto started fast but you saw what happens when you break a fighter down.”

“This was obviously a nice win for me and it reestablishes my status in MMA. I don’t want to say that a loss would have been devastating but now I am right back where I need to be.”

Edson Berto:

“I was really dehydrated and very fatigued. It just didn’t allow me to be myself out there.”

Muhsin Corbbrey vs. Lee Gibson
Winner: Muhsin Corbbrey- Unanamoius decision 29-28

Muhsin Corbbrey:

“I’m from the east coast came here to do what I gotta do. Game plan was to keep him at bay. Work his leg, use my jab, and I stuck to the game plan and got the W”

Lee Gibson:

“The Decision is what it is. I can’t complain. I tried to get in close and take him down but he was very slippery”

Scott Jorgensen vs. Chris David
Winner: Scott Jorgenson 30-27 and 29-28 twice

Scott Jorgenson:

“I am very happy with my fight and my performance but I am a little disappointed that I didn’t finish him when I had my chance. But, I feel really good.”

Chris David:

“It was a great fight but he had really strong tie ups and it never allowed initiate my knees and elbows.”

Aaron Rosa vs. Jefferson “Tank” Silva
Winner: – Aaron Rosa- Round number one, suffered a cut that was blocking his vision, winner by technical knock out

Aaron Rosa:

“It worked out pretty good. This guy is tough, thanks for the opportunity. I was worried about his I want to keep sharpening my skills. The plan was to out strike him and not to let him set up. I saw he had no legs and I took him down.”

Jefferson Silva:

“I can see ok, but I can’t complain about them stopping it. I am very disappointed. We knew what to expect from Rosa the plan was to try to avoid going down”

Jaime Jara vs. Jeremiah Metcalf
Winner: Jaime Jara- First round 4 minutes 15 seconds by way of knock out

Jaime Jara:

“I think it tells a lot about a guy like me who can win a fight like this on two days notice. I had to cut a bunch of weight so that is why I was a little slow. Winning my fourth belt in my 4th different weight class is quite an accomplishment. I am a warrior. I get calls all the time to fight. I am always ready to fight.

Jeremiah Metcalf:

“I had him where I wanted him, but the punch flashed me, but it wasn’t a knock out, I was fine, they called it too early.”
