WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION VIVAN HARRIS WILL SPEAK TO PARTNERSHIP WITH CHILDREN 6TH – 7TH GRADE STUDENTS AT IS 123 IN THE SOUTH BRONX ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS AND STAYING IN SCHOOL ON MONDAY, JUNE 22RD FROM NOON TO 12:45 P.M.
HARRIS WILL OFFER PERSONAL STORIES OF SUCCESS AND IDEAS ABOUT HOW STUDENTS LIVING IN THE INNER CITY CAN BETTER TAKE CARE OF THEIR MINDS, BODIES AND EMOTIONAL SELVES. JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 123 IS ONE OF THE LOWER-PERFORMING SCHOOLS AND ITS STUDENTS CONTINUE TO BE CHALLENGED BY POVERTY AND OTHER FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ISSUES, WHICH OFTEN PROHIBIT THEM FROM SUCCEEDING IN SCHOOL. HARRIS BORN, IN GEORGETOWN, GUYANA, BEGAN BOXING AT THE AGE OF TWELVE, AND HAS SINCE GAINED PROMINENCE IN THE BOXING WORLD. HIS APPEARANCE WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY THE RETIRED BOXERS FOUNDATION (WWW.RETIREDBOXERS.ORG), FOUNDED BY THE BRONX BOMBER, ALEX RAMOS.
