The STRIKEFORCE: Carano vs. Cyborg event last Saturday on SHOWTIME® was the highest rated mixed martial arts program ever to air on the premium network.
The telecast featured four fights, three of which were for STRIKEFORCE world titles. In an action-packed and historic female main event, Cris Cyborg defeated Gina Carano for the first ever STRIKEFORCE Women’s MMA Championship with a first round TKO.
Gegard Mousasi was victorious for the 13th consecutive time. The “Armenian Assassin,” as SHOWTIME announcers Gus Johnson and Mauro Ranallo dubbed him, defeated the defending STRIKEFORCE Lightweight Champ Renato “Babalu” Sobral with a first round TKO to win the title.
Gilbert Melendez avenged a previous loss and retained the STRIKEFORCE interim Lightweight belt with a convincing third-round TKO (punches) over Mitsuhiro Ishida.
Fabricio Werdum made a case for a possible match up with the world’s baddest man, Fedor Emelianenko, with an impressive first-round submission (guillotine) over Mike Kyle.
