Veteran Robert Davis Promises to Provide El Pasoan With Stiff Competition
El Paso heavyweight contender David “Nino” Rodriguez takes another step toward the heavyweight title Saturday when he takes on veteran
Robert Davis at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Rodriguez, 31-0 with 29 knockouts – 24 knockouts coming in the first round – will face an experienced ring veteran. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Davis, of Akron, Ohio, is 32-10 with 20 knockouts himself. He brings experience to the table against the 6-4, 250-pound Rodriguez.
The pair of exciting heavyweights will fight on the undercard of the main event featuring former world champion Cristian Mijares and Nehomar Cermeno.
“I’ve had a great training camp, and I’m ready to fight,” Rodriguez said. “Davis is a tough fighter and it will take a smart fight plan to overcome his experience. But I’m ready to take the next step.”
Rodriguez is one of the most exciting young heavyweights in boxing today. With power in both fists and hand speed that belies his considerable size, Rodriguez is ready to make a move in a wide-open heavyweight division.
