Sep 14, Horsens, Denmark:
Local cruiser Johny Jensen won the vacant WBA I/C title with a unanimous decision over still crafty ex-WBA light heavy champ Louis Del Valle. It was scored 116-113, 117-110 and 117-110. Jensen, cut after an accidental clash of heads in the eighth, had a point deducted for a low blow in round nine. Del Valle was down from another low blow in round eleven but seemed to overplay the incident and rolled around in the ring as if he near death. He got up though and lasted the distance. Afterwards he told Danish website knock-out.dk that he “was a 39-year old hasbeen who had beaten a 29-year old nobody” but that was from reality that saw the bigger, well conditioned Dane working harder and winning most of the rounds although most of the tricky moves came from Lou, whose southpaw style gave Jensen plenty to think about.
Jensen may now face WBO king Enzo Maccarinelli on the Kessler vs Calzaghe bill in Cardiff November 3.
Evans Ashira won the vacant IBA jr middle title on a second round tko over Canadian Ian McKillop. McKillop
was floored three times in the second for a stoppage at 2.28.
Anita Christensen retained the WBA, WBC and GBU 118 lb titles on scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 99-91 over
Argentinian Betina Gabriela Garino but failed to impress in a messy fight.
Lightweight Martin Kristjansen never get the easy ones and awkward Romanian Mircea Lurci was no exception
although Martin took home a close win.
Cruiser Anders Hugger was floored in the second but came back to knock out Belgian Blanchard Kalambay in
the third in the fight of the night.
