FIRST ANNIVERSARY EVENT FOR WORLD BOXING CARES

WBC President Jose Sulaiman and World Boxing Council to Celebrate First Anniversary of World Boxing Cares, Tuesday, October 9 at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City

The Fun-Filled Evening to Include an Outstanding Comedy Show, Meet and Greet with Boxing Greats and World Boxing Cares Honorees

(New York City) October 1, 2007 — World Boxing Council, President Jose Sulaiman and friends will be on hand at Gotham Comedy Club in New York City, Tuesday, October 9th to celebrate the first anniversary of World Boxing Cares. The night will include honorees that have made significant contributions to the children’s cause, a one-hour comedy show, as well as meet and greets with many shining stars of professional boxing.
“This first year has been an incredible achievement for World Boxing Cares and it would not have happened without the great contributions of the WBC and the boxing community,” said Jill Diamond, Chair, World Boxing Cares. “The night will honor selflessness, people who find the time to help needy children and families, worldwide.”

The evening honorees to include:
· Jose Sulaiman, Honorary Chair, World Boxing Cares, President, World Boxing Council
· Five-Time, World Champion, Iran Barkley
· NABF Titleholder, Suszannah Warner
· John E. Oden, Founder, John E. Oden Boxing Scholars, Author “White Collar Boxing,” Principal, AllianceBernstein
· Alan Shatz, Volunteers and Community Relations, New York Foundling
· Sean Connolly, Director of Sports, Police Athletic League
· Pat Russo, Citywide Director of Boxing, Police Athletic League
· Chris Mazzilli, Owner and Founder, Gotham Comedy Club
· Gary Stretch, Former WBC International Super Welterweight Champion, Actor

The awards part of the evening will be hosted by WOR 710, radio talk show personality, Joey Reynolds. He has a huge and phenomenally loyal audience who can be heard form coast-to-coast in markets such as New York City, Denver and Philadelphia. Reynolds considers his show the “Seinfeld of Radio” – it’s about nothing and it’s a hit!

“The World Boxing Council is very proud of helping establish World Boxing Cares and thanks Jill Diamond, the evening’s honorees and all those great people for being part of this very dear and rewarding cause to us,” said Jose Sulaiman, WBC President. “This is a global undertaking where people including professional athletes are helping misfortunate children and what can be better than that?”

Evening Entertainment
In addition to an award ceremony, there will be over 30, past and present, professional boxing champs to meet, greet, share stories, sign autographs and boxing gloves. There will also be a live music performance, photograph opportunities with round card girls, and a one-hour comedy show.
The comedy show will feature funnymen:
· William Stephenson (Host) — The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
· Joe Matarese – The Late Show with David Letterman
· Rich Francese – Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn
· Macio –Def Comedy Jam
· Joe DeRosa — Last Call with Carson Daly

Ticket Information
Tickets are available at Gotham Comedy Club at 208 West 23rd Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues. For reservations call 212.367.9000. VIP Entry begins at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $100 for VIP Reception, open bar and VIP show seating and $50 for preferred seating and open bar. All proceeds for the evening will benefit World Boxing Cares.
