Wildman vs. Crazyman?

LEMOORE, Ca. — Thomas Denny is known as the Wildman.

And the Hesperia brawler is dubbing his opponent for the Palace Fighting Championship’s “Project Complete”, the Crazyman.

“He’s Crazyman. Crazy like what Jesus would fight like if he was on meth,” Denny said of Ensenada, Mexico welterweight Olaf Alfonso (5-7) prior to their bout on Oct. 18 at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore.

“It’s great to be back in Lemoore. I am excited to show Lemoore a Wildman at a 110 percent instead of 73 percent,” said Denny, who fell to Boston’s Alex Karalexis (9-2) at World Extreme Cagefighting 23 in August.

Denny dropped a unanimous decision to Karalexis in his last appearance at the Palace. But he didn’t disappoint the Central Valley fans, giving a gallant effort in the fight and weighing in with just a sticker covering his genitals.

“I spoke with Olaf recently and everyone knows Olaf is a different type of cat. He has been training very hard for this fight with Denny. He knows what he’s up against and he is eager to prove to the mixed martial arts world that he is refocused and reenergized,” Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino Entertainment Director Christian Printup said. “I doubt he’ll surface and speak before the fight, but I will say this he’s going to show up, make weight and go to war.”

And Denny expects nothing less.

“I think that we match up well,” Denny said. “We are two guys who leave it all in the cage/ring. But I see the fight going with me smiling and him using smelling salts and asking what happened.”

Denny (22-5) has won his last two fights, both in King of the Cage bouts. Most recently he defeated Rancho Cucamonga’s John Cole (3-8) by rear-naked choke in Aug.

Denny has fought mainly for KOTC.

“My only predictions are not to leave your seat and go to the restroom,” Denny said.
The pair is scheduled to clash at a catch-weight of 165 pounds

“Don’t look for this to go to the ground,” Denny added. “This is going to be a stand up war.”

Alfonso has lost five straight fights and is eager to get back on track since signing with the PFC.

In June, Alfonso said, “I’ll fight anyone at any weight. I’ve been experimenting for the last five years and now that I’ve finished my research, people will see my new fighting style and it’s insane.

“It’s all been research. I’ve fought several different ways. I didn’t always condition my body properly on purpose. The strongest part of my game is the clinch and no one has ever seen me do that in a fight… never not once. I know I can knock anyone out from the clinch, so I tried to work on other things.

“Also, I’m a southpaw and I fight conventional. Not a lot of people really know that. My favorite submission is the guillotine, but I’ve never once used it in a fight.”

The Denny vs. Alfonso bout was one of the first announced for the loaded PFC 4 card. The 13-bout card is virtually sold out for the fourth straight show and the 27th straight MMA card to be featured at the Palace.

Featured on the card are three PFC Championship bouts. In one of the more highly anticipate fights ever at the Palace, Newport Beach’s Justin Levens (9-7) will take on Hanford’s Kenny Ento (8-2) for the vacant middleweight title.
