MIDWEST CAGE CHAMPIONSHIP THANKSGIVING EVE “NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS” PRO MIXED MARTIAL ARTS (MMA) EVENT INCLUDES FOUR TITLE FIGHTS BOUTS AT 95/KGGO ARENA
October 5, 2007- Des Moines, IA- Fast on the heels of the crowd pleasing MMC 10 event, Midwest Cage Championship (MCC) returns to the 95/KGGO Arena Wednesday, November 21 with their biggest event yet. For the first time, MCC 11 “Night of Champions” boasts four title bouts in one event. MCC and parent company, Midwest Sports Entertainment Group, L.L.C. have grown to become the premier mixed martial arts (MMA) promoter in the Des Moines. The company produces over ten events per year showcasing talents of the most exciting, and up and coming fighters. “This event brings out the best competition and will create the most action packed show to date” stated MCC partner John Halverson. Halverson is a UFC veteran, MCC co-founder, and respected fight match maker. “This show will bring out the best in each competitor, proving the bar has been raised to for everyone in the fight game, including the fans” Halverson added.
Chuck “The Reverend” Grigsby and Mike “Mini Van” Van Meer captured the MCC Light Heavyweight and Middleweight titles, respectfully, during July’s MCC 9. Since then, Grigsby went on to win Victory Fighting Championships Light Heavyweight title. Van Meer remained committed to training, both in Ames and Las Vegas, and competed in a high profile fight in Oklahoma City. Both fighters return to MCC 11, placing their belts on the line. “Mini Van” will face MCC number one contender Cole “The Apprentice” Jennet, who delivered an impressive defeat over Matt Skaggs during MCC 10. “The Rev” squares up against John Cornett, team mate and training partner of current MCC welterweight champion, Bobby Voelker.
Voelker returns to defend his own belt at Night of Champions. Voelker has built a well deserved reputation based on his three round war with veteran Teddy “Red” Worthington, and his last fight with Victor “Superman” Moreno, where he toppled Moreno with a jaw crushing, fight stopping, right hand blow. Voelker is considered a hard nosed, straight forward fighter willing to take on anyone. MCC 11 provides that opportunity.
The MCC Lightweight belt will also be awarded at MCC 11. The belt is currently open and was last held by Jeremy “Lil Heathen” Stephens, who now claims a recent UFC win at UFC 76 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. MCC is currently evaluating the best fighters to include in a four man tournament that will determine the winner of the belt. “We’re talking with the best fighters now and will match them based on their ability to excite and entertain the crowd.” confided Halverson.
