A new era in boxing began Saturday night at the legendary boxing venue Madison Square Garden. A new ring was used tonite for the first time on over 50 years. The new ring was christened tonite and already achieved legendary status. Tonite saw Samuel Peter 29-1 (28) kiss he canvas three times but hold on and show the heart of a champion to defend his WBC Interim Heavyweight Title against Jamel McCline 38-8-3 (3) who is now 0-4 in title fights. Peter was knocked down by a hard body shot at the close of the second round. This was the first time that the Nigerian Nightmare was ever down in his professional career. Peter also kissed the express train twice in the third round. The first knockdown came early on in the third and the second at 2:00 into the round. From there, Peter regrouped and stuck to his fight plan dominating McCline in most the remaining rounds. The final score cards read: 113-112, 115,111; 115-110 all for Peter.
