Camp Cantrell Update
(Las Vegas, Nevada) Super Middleweight Warrior Roger Cantrell is in the midst of his biggest training camp and his handlers couldn’t be happier. Cantrell is nearly on weight (weeks ahead of schedule) and has taken Vegas by storm. “Roger’s first sparring session brought The Top Rank Gym to a stand still”, said promoter Brian Halquist. “Roger went five hard rounds and everyone in the gym stopped what they were doing and came over to the ring to watch – everyone gave Roger an ovation including Mayweather Sr. and Jr. Roger has never looked so good.”
Cantrell (12-0, 8KOs) will fight 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Andre Ward (13-0,8KOs) on Showtime’s SHOBOX Series Friday, November 16, 2007 from the Becausejour Cricket Grounds in St. Lucia, the West Indies. (11PM Eastern and Pacific). Roger is on a vigorous training schedule that includes daily conditioning and sparring sessions. Cantrell’s trainer, Bill Hunt, who has worked with Cantrell since Roger was 14 years old, is very impressed. “I have watched Roger over the past 7 years and he has never been more mentally focused and physically prepared. He is working harder than he ever has before. Roger will be 110% ready physically and mentally; he will win this fight.” Hunt said.
Camp Cantrell will continue through early November when the team will break camp in Las Vegas and head to the luscious island of St. Lucia. The Cantrell-Ward fight will match two of the best undefeated fighters coming up in the Super Middleweight Division. Both have had very impressive amateur careers and are undefeated as professionals. This much anticipated fight should be a classic that will have boxing fans talking for a long time to come.
“The great thing about Roger is that he’s only 20 years old,” said a beaming Halquist.
