Teamkattar.com is proud to announce the Grand Opening of IntenZe MMA Academy in Lawrence. (MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts, which is currently the number 1 spectator sport)

Jose Madera and Jorge Espinoza will be opening up their MMA gym at 12:00 noon on Saturday May 1st on 83 Holly Street (one block from Rte 28) in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Mayor Lantiqua (Lawrence) and Mayor Manzi (Methuen) will be in attendance recognizing the opening of this gym and will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony at noon.

MMA Training offered in Brazilian & Japanese Jiu Jitsu, Boxing and Wrestling.

“We already have 6 trainers conducting classes and 4 professional fighters.”

“We want to work with the local schools and have after school programs to keep kids off the street. This will give kids a place with some structure, as many kids come from broken families”

“We have a 0% tolerance for disrespect to fellow students”, says Jose Madera, Program Manager.

Will “Brown Bomber” Santiago, of IntenZe MMA, will be fighting at Combat Zone’s next fight on June 19th at Bike Week in Laconia.

Eagle Tribune recognized Mr. Santiago’s move from the streets to the cage in this article.

“Off the streets and into the ring, Lawrence’s Santiago fighting for a better life. The streets of Lawrence showed little mercy on Will Santiago. Growing up poor in a broken home, Santiago found trouble at every turn. “Street life is not something you choose,” said Santiago, now 26. “It’s something you’re born into.” After 10 years embroiled in drugs and violence — bouncing in and out of jail — Santiago decided to take his fight off the streets and into the “Octagon.” At 26 years old, Santiago will take the next step on what he hopes can be a long, productive journey in the mixed martial arts game…” Eagle Tribune (Jan 15th, 2010)

Calvin Kattar, a local role model, has started training at this Gym and will hopefully be able to attend the grand opening, as well. Mr. Kattar was awarded a Proclamation from Methuen City Hall in recognition of him being an outstanding role model in the community.
