Bobby Gunn is a fearless Canadian warrior who always goes to his opponent’s back yard to fight. He is prepared to take a bull by the horns, but he never realized the hardest fight would be against the referee. Bobby believes that a referee shouldn’t be allowed to officiate a world championship fight if the slightest sight of blood upsets him and makes him nervous. There were no knockdowns and just a small cut on the bridge of Bobby’s nose. The nose was not broken at the British press reported. Members of Bobby’s team that were in England with him have spoken about the controversial stoppage.

TEAM GUNN QUOTES

Bobby’s personal trainer Kyle White: “Bobby only suffered a small cut which already healed. It looked messy but if you watch the tape, very few hard punches were landed and Bobby still had his defense up. They didn’t allow Bobby to fight. I’ve seen fights where guys are cut up and bleeding until the end (such as Arturo Gatti), and they are allowed to fight. But, for some odd reason, they stopped this fight at the first sign of a cut. The stoppage seemed premature, especially with only 25 seconds left in the round.

Bobby’s cut man Mike Hopper: “The fight was stopped prematurely. That seemed like how it was going to be before we even got there. We knew we were up against the odds coming into the ring, and that’s what happened. Bobby could have continued. He stopped the fight because of blood from the cut. I had the bleeding stopped before they announced Maccarinelli the winner. I brought it up in the rules meeting, and they said it was the fight doctor’s choice, and if everything is OK we would be able to continue. That obviously didn’t happen. Bobby was hit in the nose, got the standing 8 count, and was stopped right after that very prematurely. Stoppages like this are bad for boxing.

Note: Earlier in the night, Welterweight Mehrdud Takaloo was badly cut and was allowed to go the distance in his loss to Michael Jennings. Takaloo is a warrior and has much respect as well as friendship from Team Gunn, but was he allowed to go the distance because he is managed by Frank Warren? Warren is the same man who not only promoted the show but manages Enzo Maccarinelli.
