BOXING LEGEND OSCAR DE LA HOYA TO LEAD CLINIC FOR TEENAGE BOXERS AT GLEASON’S GYM IN BROOKLYN ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 AT 4:00 P.M.

–Celebration of boxing coming to Brooklyn at the Barclays Center–
BROOKLYN, NY (September 23, 2010) – Boxing legend Oscar de la Hoya, the president of Golden Boy Promotions, will lead a boxing clinic for local amateur teenage boxers from USA Boxing Metro at the famed Gleason’s Gym at 77 Front Street in Brooklyn on Tuesday, September 28 at 4:00 p.m.
The clinic will be presented by Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, the sales and marketing arm of the Barclays Center, and Golden Boy Promotions, the world’s leading boxing promoter, which announced in July that they were teaming to bring the best of major professional boxing back to Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.
In addition to 10-time World Champion De La Hoya, instructors to participate in the clinic will include: Brooklyn native and middleweight contender Danny Jacobs, Philadelphia’s undefeated junior welterweight Danny Garcia, and Newark’s undefeated lightweight prospect Mike Perez. Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment president and CEO Brett Yormark and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer will also attend the clinic and meet with reporters.
Everlast, the premier fight sports and fitness brand in the world, will provide boxing gloves for each of the youngsters participating in the clinic.
Golden Boy Promotions will promote a minimum of 12 boxing events a year at the Barclays Center during the multi-year term of the deal. Featuring top stars of the sport, as well as emerging talent, the regular boxing events will begin soon after the Barclays Center opens in 2012. Golden Boy Promotions will seek to include Brooklyn fighters on its Barclays Center events.
Golden Boy Promotions currently has over 60 fighters under contract, from future hall of famers Bernard Hopkins, Sugar Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez to current world champions and superstars David Haye, Amir Khan, Marcos Madiana, Saul Alvarez, and Victor Ortiz.

BY SUBWAY: To reach Gleason’s Gym by subway: F train to the York Street Station; the A or C trains to High Street/Brooklyn Bridge Station; or the 2 or 3 trains to the Clark Street Station.
To walk from the F train at York Street – walk two blocks south toward the East River and make a left onto Front Street. Walk three blocks in the direction of the Brooklyn Bridge. Gleason’s is located between Main Street and Washington Street. To walk from the A or C trains at High Street Station — walk down the hill approximately three blocks in the direction of the East River on Old Fulton Street. Walk under the underpass (the Brooklyn Bridge will be on your right) and make your first right onto Front Street. Gleason’s is two blocks down Front Street between Main and Washington. To walk from the 2 or 3 trains at Clark Street – walk down Henry Street about four blocks toward the Brooklyn Bridge. Make a left onto Old Fulton Street, walk under the underpass and make the first right onto Front Street.
