MATT LINDLAND MOVES ONE STEP CLOSER TO BEING AN OREGON STATE REP

Lindland wins the primary election

www.mattfororegon.com

The primary election is over and against the predictions of all the “certified smart” people I won the primary by a margin of 59% to 41%. That was a whopping 19 point margin. Truly unexpected.

However, I could not have done it without the help of folks like you. Since I am not a “politician” the special interest groups were lined up against me and supported my opponent. I had to rely on the financial support of average folks to get the word out about my campaign and I am exceedingly grateful for your support.

Now the big work begins. We have to move on to the general election campaign and again I am up against your standard politician, and again I am counting on hundreds of supporters to help me out.

Your financial support is pivotal in helping me pay for mailings, radio ads and lawn signs. Your support will also help me in sending a strong message to the special interests that might want to get involved in this campaign. If they see that I am supported by hundreds of individuals then they will be more likely to stay out of the race on the side of my opponent.

This seat in Oregon is an “open” seat, which means there is no incumbent in the race. This particular district has traditionally been a Republican district and I am the Republican candidate with a strong independent streak.

I hope you will visit my website (http://mattfororegon.com/) and make a contribution to my campaign. It is easy to do. Simply click on the “Donate” button and fill out the information. Many of you have already done so.

If you reside in Oregon you can take advantage of the “Oregon political tax credit.” That allows you to deduct, dollar for dollar, up to $50 from your STATE income tax return. Or if you are married they will allow you to deduct up to $100 from your STATE return.

In essence, if you are in Oregon, your political donation is free.

I believe in limited government principles. I believe that the state of Oregon is taxing businesses too much and creating more and more road blocks to business expansion and job creation. My opponent is getting her marching orders from her caucus and will undoubtedly move the state in the wrong direction.

Once again I want to ask for your help. I have a strong stable of dedicated volunteers but I need to get them materials for distribution. In order to compete against my opponent I need to pay for mailings, radio ads, newspaper ads and lawn signs.

If everyone receiving this email were to respond with a contribution, of any size, it will shock, again, the “certified smart” people of politics.

Thank you for your help in the primary election and thank you in advance for your help in the general election.

Sincerely,

Matt “the law” Lindland.

World’s Number One Karate Champion Makes Professional MMA Debut at Strikeforce

A young man will make his Mixed Martial Arts professional debut tomorrow night (Friday Jul 27) at the Strikeforce event in San Jose. This MMA extravaganza will air live on HDNet at 7:30 PM PST/10:30 PM EST. As stated, this will be the young man’s first professional Mixed Martial Arts event and he will be facing Jeremiah Metcalf, an opponent with twelve professional MMA fights on his resume; eight wins, four losses. Metcalf has wins over such notable fighters as Ronald “Machine Gun” Jhun. Metcalf has already had three fights this year and has won them all; two by submission, one by knockout.

If one were to look at this match-up on paper, they might think, “Why would they put someone with Metcalf’s experience in professional Mixed Martial Arts against some guy who has never even had a pro MMA fight? Why would they do that?” Well, I will tell you why. It’s because this young man making his pro MMA debut is a man named Raymond Daniels. It’s a name new to the MIXED Martial Arts world but not new to the Martial Arts world and definitely not new to the fighting world. Raymond Daniels has been striking fear into the hearts of his opponents for quite some time in the Chuck Norris’ -owned, World Combat League, which is basically a professional kickboxing organization without the ring. Raymond Daniels amassed a very impressive record of 18-0 in that organization.

While many of today’s Mixed Martial Artists are coming from backgrounds such as wrestling and jiu-jitsu, Raymond Daniels comes from a traditional Martial Arts background much like the popular Cung Le, to whom Daniels is often compared. Personally, from what I’ve seen the unique striking techniques and excitement level that Raymond Daniels brings may even surpass that of Cung Le. Daniels became interested in following in the footsteps of his Father, Frank, at the age of five. Frank Daniels was a seasoned martial artist and Sport Karate competitor. This inspired Raymond to study Kenpo and as he matured, to compete and end up travelling the world facing and defeating all-comers. Currently, Raymond Daniels is recognized as the number one Sport Karate fighter in the world. He holds a 6th degree black belt in Kenpo and Shotokan Karate as well as a 5th degree black belt in Tae Kwon DoNow. Now how all of this will transfer into the world of professional Mixed Martial Arts is yet to be determined. Here’s just a few of the twenty-eight year old, Daniels’ accomplishments in the world of Sport Karate when he was younger:

2000 – Men’s light heavy point sparring world champion
2000 – Men’s light heavy continuous sparring world champion
1999 – Men’s light heavy point sparring world champion
1999 – Men’s light heavy continuous sparring world champion
1998 – Men’s light heavy point sparring world champion
1998 – Men’s light heavy continuous sparring world champion
1998 – Adult traditional self-defense world champion
1997 – Junior boys’ team sparring

The obvious question would be about the ground game of Raymond Daniels and how that could play a part in his match against Metcalf. Half of all of Metcalf’s wins have come by submission so the ground is going to be a definite danger zone for the Karate champion I assume. I’m expecting Daniels’ ground game to be pretty much identical to Cung Le’s. No doubt about it, Raymond Daniels will be looking to end this fight against Jeremiah Metcalf with strikes and if Daniels is taken to the ground, expect his gameplan to be getting back on his feet as soon as possible. Most fighters who rely heavily on their striking skills in professional MMA focus mainly on submission defense when it comes to a ground game. This is something that is understandable why they do it but it is also a trend I hope to see less of as MMA evolves. If you look at all the greatest Mixed Martial Artists in the world, the majority of them are fighters adept in striking and grappling. However, I’m always interested to see how traditional Martial Artists make the transition into MMA and I’m really looking forward to Raymond Daniels debut in Strikeforce: Melendez/Thomson tomorrow night. If you want to see some very exciting striking skills check out Raymond Daniels’ fight videos on youtube.

According to Chris Meyer, CEO for Sauerland Event, there is no offer for Lolenga Mock to fight EBU supermiddle titleholder Karo Murat. -Truth of the matter, says Meyer, is that we were offered Mock by Team Palle but turned the offer down as their financial demands were too high.Who Murat will defend against isn´t ready yet and neither is when and where.

Randy Griffin is ranked # 1 while Sylvester is # 2. There are apparently some moves made to ge the rematch between Sturm and Griffin recognized as mandatory defence by the champion.

Outside of Sturm vs Griffin and Chagaev vs Valuev WBO I/C middle champ Sebastian Zbik defends the title against Belgian Jamel Bahki, Vitali Tajbert´s postponed defence of the EU jr light belt against Portugese Joao Bento goes ahead here, Hungarian supermiddle Karoly Balzsay take on Argentinian Jose Alberto Clavero in a defence of the WBO I/C crown. Pickering: I’m still Britain’s No 1

Posted on | June 26, 2008 | No Comments

Esham Pickering is warning challenger Matthew Marsh not to underestimate him ahead of their British Super-Bantamweight Title fight at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday, 27th June 2008.

Former European and Commonwealth champion Pickering (Newark) defends his British Title against Pickering (Welling) on what promises to be a thrilling Hennessy Sports show in association with GoldenPalace.net at the home of British boxing with Sky Sports televising the action live.

Hennessy Sports boxer Pickering is determined to put on an eye-catching display after disappointing nights against Sean Hughes in his last two fights.

Esham was beaten by Hughes on a points decision in a non-title fight, before then getting revenge by late stoppage in a British Title fight.

“A lot of people think I’m finished after my two fights with Sean Hughes, but that was not the real me,” said Pickering, who is trained by Carl Greaves.

“The real Esham Pickering will be back in this fight and Matthew Marsh should not underestimate me because I certainly haven’t underestimated him.

“Marsh is going to be up for the fight but he shouldn’t be thinking I’m finished – otherwise he will be in for a shock because I can punch three times harder than him.”

“I’ve followed Esham’s career and I believe he’s on his way out,” said Marsh, who boxed for England at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

“In his last couple of fights, Esham didn’t look too impressive so I had no hesitation in taking the fight.”

LATIMORE WANTS SPINKS OR PHILLIPS AFTER BIG WIN AGAINST POWELL

Posted on | June 26, 2008 | No Comments

ST. LOUIS, MO (June 25, 2008) Two weeks ago St. Louis native Deandre “THE BULL” Latimore scored the biggest win of his career as he stopped #1 IBF Junior Middleweight Sechew Powell in the seventh round at the Hard Rock Café in New York City. The bout, broadcast on ESPN2’s Wednesday Night Fights is being called an early contender for upset of the year.

Said Jerry Guiliano, manager of Latimore, “We had a terrific game plan coming into the fight. I knew it was a step up for Deandre, but our camp was very confident we could pull the upset.

We feel that since we beat the IBF #1 we should be given that ranking. Deandre took it right to Powell and should be rewarded. “

About Latimore’s next bout, Guiliano stated, “We’d like to have a big fight in St. Louis . Either Verno Phillips or Cory Spinks would be perfect. Cory’s from St. Louis and it would be a perfect cross town showdown. It would be a great fight with all of St. Louis wanting to see two of their favorite fighters.”

Throwing down the gauntlet, Guiliao said, “The question is will Cory have the guts to fight after Deandre’s stunning upset of Powell? Cory is being promoted by Don King and this fight fits into Don’s “Only in America” theme. With the floods in the Midwest and all the other issues St. Louis faces, a fight like this could really boost moral in the area. If Cory is a good as everyone claims he will step up and take our challenge. “

The 22 year old Latimore, 19-1 (16KO’s) is trained Kenny Adams who has worked with numerous world champions and assistant Jacob Chaves with strength and conditioning coach Ray Franklin rounding out the team.

Russia’s Last Emperor vs. The American Maine-iac

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia in “Affliction Banned”

SIGNAL HILL, California (June 26, 2008) – The Cold War might be over, but old rivalries die hard. On July 19th at Honda Center in Anaheim, California, two of the world’s greatest MMA super powers will collide when Russia’s Fedor Emelianenko faces off with America’s Tim Sylvia for the WAMMA heavyweight championship.

These two formidable heavyweight champions finally make it into the ring together, in an event as impressive as the two athletes heading the bill — “Affliction Banned.” These two heavy hitters are so accomplished it’s a challenge for them to find competitive opponents. The two are almost perfectly matched in number of professional bouts they’ve fought in, with Sylvia compiling 24 wins and only 4 losses, and Fedor recording 28 wins and 1 loss. It’s hard to imagine what it will be like in the ring with these two monsters of MMA go head-to-head.

Fedor is a powerful, intelligent fighter and technician who doesn’t outwardly show much emotion, but fights (and trains) with a lot of heart. This astounding fighter never retreats, has great takedown and ground control skills, and is the most devastating fighter that MMA has ever seen when he’s on the inside. And Fedor hits very hard, with amazing knockout power in both hands. Unlike most fighters, Fedor is also a master game planner who follows through on the plan, and simply doesn’t wilt under pressure, no matter what the circumstances. Fedor’s record is impeccable, losing only once when a referee decided to end a fight early when he sustained a bad cut from an elbow. All in all, Fedor seems virtually unbeatable.

Although Fedor is the top-ranking heavyweight in the world, there’s no doubt that Tim Sylvia is a force to be reckoned with. With a full 8 inches and 30 pounds over Fedor, Sylvia is a monster with an impressive record, surprisingly quick hands and a long reach that many opponents find hard to escape. His size and striking power, coupled with a rock-em sock-em attitude and stamina are a dangerous combination every time he steps in front of an opponent. Trying to regain the championship title in a fight in 2004, Sylvia wouldn’t tap out when Frank Mir
locked him in an armbar, even after his arm was snapped. The ref had to put an end the fight, because Sylvia, broken arm and all wouldn’t give up.

Fedor, who has already proved himself in the ring, is looking to earn a different kind of reputation with the American people. “As far as American fans, I’d like them to get to know me personally…not just as a fighter — as a human being as well.’ And Sylvia, who has suffered from some criticism and controversy, has a personal, as well as professional, agenda as well — he’s just looking for a little respect. A win against the current world heavyweight champion just might quiet the chatter and earn him the respect he yearns for. In Sylvia’s own words, “It’s time to see if Fedor still has what it takes to be #1.”

On the evening of July 19th at Honda Center in Anaheim, the MMA mega-event of all times —“Affliction Banned”— promises to bear this out.

“Affliction Banned” is stacked with so much world-class talent that it had to be separated into two live shows produced for broadcast. The night’s activities will kick off with “Affliction Live,” a one-hour, free live telecast on FSN (Fox Sports Net) starting at 5 PM Pacific (8 PM/ET) and setting the stage for “Affliction Banned” – five super fights on pay-per-view starting at 6 PM/PT (9 PM/ET) via iN DEMAND, TVN, Shaw Communications, Viewers Choice Canada, DirecTV, DISH Network, Bell ExpressVue and Star Choice in the United States and Canada for a suggested retail price of $39.95.

The heavy metal band Megadeth, led by frontman, guitarist, and songwriter Dave Mustaine, will be performing live at the event.

Tickets for “Affliction Banned” range between $50.00 and $1,000.00, and are on sale at Honda Center’s Box Office and also online at Ticketmaster.com.
