Ken Chertow Wrestling, the Nation’s largest wrestling camp system, will conduct technique and training camps for wrestlers of all ages and skill levels this summer throughout the Nation.
Gold Medal Training Camp provides wrestlers with personalized instruction and a world class learning environment. This is an ideal opportunity for wrestlers to learn the skills necessary to help them reach their highest goals. A variety of camp options are available ranging from 3 days to multiple weeks.
The camp is owned and coached by U.S.A. Olympian Ken Chertow, a 3x NCAA All-American and 3x NCAA Academic All-American at Penn State University. Chertow, who has been teaching and coaching wrestling for more than 20 years, including coaching stints at both Penn State and Ohio State, has seen his campers succeed at the state, national and world levels. Chertow’s camps have helped produce more than 500 state champions from 1998 – 2008. Chertow’s focus is helping kids grow into successful student athletes with a passion for wrestling and personal achievement.
The Gold Medal Wrestling Camp consists of four primary elements including technique instruction, intense drilling, live wrestling and sports science discussions. Many World Class Clinicians and Coaches will be providing personalized instruction and attention to each camper.
Group and team discounts are available, as well as need based financial aid and scholarships.
Visit www.kenchertow.com for details on all camp locations.

Gratefully we return to our home Brute Adidas Studios for this weekends show. After working in beautiful Florida and getting to know the good folks down there its still good to be home if only for a few days. A busy weekend is in store for us. Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to call, email and write us over the past few weeks. It’s great to hear from our listeners on a regular basis. It also helps us to know where you are listening, what state and city too.
Joining me in studio this week will be the New Head Coach of the New Grandview College program, Nick Mitchell. Nick was at Wartburg College under the legendary Coach Jim Miller
Scheduled Guests this week include-
Brad Penrith- University of Northern Iowa Head Coach. UNI finished the season with a dual mark of 7-5-1 and qualified nine wrestlers for the NCAA Championships. The Panthers also captured the Western Wrestling Conference dual and tournament championships. UNI was a perfect 4-0 in league dual action for the second consecutive season. The Panthers then finished off the WWC season by winning the NCAA West Regional/WWC title. The regional win marked the 23 rd straight regional crown for the Panthers.
Mark Manning- University of Nebraska Head Coach. The Big 12 Conference has named Nebraska Head Coach Mark Manning the 2008 Big 12 Coach of the Year. Manning, in his eighth year at NU, has led the Huskers to new heights, particularly during the 2007-08 season. Manning has accrued a 109-42-2 record in duals, including 14-3 and 3-1 in the Big 12 last season. Under Manning, the Huskers nearly went undefeated in the conference for the first time in their 98-year history. The year’s highlights include a second-place finish at the National Duals in January before defeating Oklahoma State for just the third time in school history on Jan. 20. Manning also collected his 100th career dual win at Nebraska against Northern Colorado.
Jayson Ness- University of Minnesota 125 lb Wrestler. It was a disappointing end to a tough season for the Golden Gopher wrestling team. Jayson Ness, Minnesota’s lone representative in the finals round at the 2008 NCAA Championships in St. Louis, was beaten 10-3 in the 125-pound championship match by Indiana’s Angel Escobedo. Ness’ defeat means the Gophers finished the national tournament with 61.5 team points and in 10th place, their lowest finish since 1996. Despite the loss, it was an outstanding year for the Gopher redshirt sophomore and Bloomington, Minn. native. Ness finishes the 2007-08 season with a 39-2 record and his second All-American award. He also tied a school record with 20 pins (two at the NCAA Championships), a feat also accomplished by Gopher head assistant coach and fellow Bloomington Kennedy High School graduate Marty Morgan. Ness rounds out his second NCAA tournament with a 4-1 record. He is 9-3 lifetime at NCAAs (79-7 total in two seasons with the Gophers) and has lost just three times in his last 43 official collegiate matches. All three of those losses have come against Escobedo.
Troy Nickerson- Cornell University Big Red 125 lb Wrestler. Big Red wrestling’s Jordan Leen was named the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association’s (EIWA) Wrestler of the Year, while rookie Mack Lewnes earned Freshman of the Year honors. Leen won the NCAA title at 157 pounds in St. Louis last weekend to earn his second All-America honors. Placing fourth at 165 pounds, Lewnes also became an All-American. The duo helped lead the Big Red to a ninth-place team finish with 67 points. One has to wonder if the complexion and overall outcome of the Championships would have been different if Cornell’s sparkplug, Troy Nickerson would have been in the line up. Nickerson, now cleared for active practice had shoulder surgery early in the season to repair some previous damage. Nickerson sports some impressive credentials. All-American (2006, 2007), NCAA Qualifier (2006, 2007), EIWA Champion (2006), EIWA Finalist (2006, 2007), All-Ivy First Team (2006, 2007), Ivy League Wrestler of the Year (2006), Ivy League Rookie of the Year (2006)
Westley Tielens- Former HS and College wrestler who has made a Wrestling Docudrama
“The Perfect Circle” A quest for State.
Two brothers are on a quest to become state champion wrestlers. They cant… do it alone and must seek advice from CA’s greatest like Dan Henderson, Steve Neal and Daryl Vasquez. In the end one brother makes it and one does not. If you want to be the best this video is for you. Very Inspirational. Order only at zfire.org “Beyond the Norm we come not as humans but as wrestlers.”
Richard Fergola- Head Coach of Northern Iowa Area Community College- Since leaving his post at Dana College Coach Fergola has only sped up the action by placing third in his Division after less than a year of having completed his team. He has also been busy on the political front and will make expound on an announcement regarding his conference championships and the new locations that will include Des Moines, Seattle and Rochester.

PHILADELPHIA’S DANNY GARCIA RECORDS QUICK KO TO NOTCH 5th STRAIGHT WIN
Posted on | April 21, 2008 | No Comments
Philadelphia’s rising star, Jr. welterweight Danny Garcia, improves to (5-0, 5 KO’s) as he dismantled Guadalupe Diaz at the 1:53 mark of round one on the undercard of Calzaghe vs Hopkins.
Garcia whose known for his fast hands and powerful punch, hurt the Michoacan native early with a barrage of punches. Tony Weeks was forced to stop the beating after Diaz was on wobbly legs.
“I really wanted to go some rounds in this fight, but if the opportunity arises I have to take him out. Diaz didn’t seem to durable so I applied a lot of pressure and landed some big shots. My focus is to get back in the gym and get ready for the next one. I’ve been working very hard and its paid off. I cant wait to get back in the ring.” ~ Danny Garcia
May 29 Ballroom Boxing Event Announced
Posted on | April 21, 2008 | No Comments
As announced this morning on the “Ballroom Boxing Report” on WJFK-AM in Baltimore, undefeated Pasadena, MD super middleweight “The Persecutor” Mike Paschall will battle former world title contender Larry “The Laser” Marks of Newark, DE on Thursday, May 29 in the main event of the next Ballroom Boxing card at Michael’s Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD.
Paschall (16-0-1, four KO’s) is coming off a solid fourth-round TKO over Bruce Rumbolz on the last Ballroom Boxing show on April 3. Paschall has scored knockouts in his last two bouts. Marks (29-9-1, 16 KO’s) who unsuccessfully challenged Andrew “Six Heads” Lewis for the WBA Welterweight title in 2001, is the most accomplished boxer Paschall has faced. Marks has also fought the likes of former world champions Cory Spinks and Charles “The Natural” Murray as well as contenders Andrew Murray and Tokunbo Olajide. Marks also holds victories over Beltway Boxers Ed Griffin and Purcell Miller.
There is a possibility that this will be a 10-round contest. If that holds up, that will be virgin territory for Paschall.
Tickets are available by calling Ballroom Boxing at 410-766-7474.

Garside excited about taking women’s boxing to another level against Hallback on “Finally” PPV card
Posted on | April 21, 2008 | No Comments
Holm-Sanders headlines June 13 at Isleta Casino & Resort in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE (April 21, 2008) – The much touted Fight of the Night candidate on the June 13th “Finally” pay-per-view event, airing live (10 PM/ET-8 PM/MT) from Isleta Casino & Resort in Albuquerque, is the 10-round co-feature for the vacant International Female Boxers Association (IFBA) lightweight championship between WIBA featherweight champion Jeannine “G9” Garside (7-0-1, 3 KOs) and WIBA & IBA junior lightweight title-holder Chevelle “Fists of Steel” Hallback (26-5-2, 11 KOs).
The Fresquez Productions, Inc.-promoted “Finally” will be produced and distributed by Integrated Sports for live viewing in the United States and Canada (10 PM/ET) on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, TVN, Shaw Communications, DirecTV and StarChoice for a suggested retail price of only $24.95.
“‘Finally” features the greatest collection of women boxers on one show with all eight independently rated among the world’s top 3 by divisions, including five No. 1 rated females, battling in four world title bouts. The headliner matches the top two women boxers in the world today, Albuquerque favorite Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm (21-1-2, 6 KOs), recognized as the No. 1 welterweight in the world, against the world’s No. 1 middleweight, Detroit icon Mary Jo Sanders (25-0, 8 KOs), in the 10-round main event for the vacant IFBA junior middleweight crown as well as universal pound-for-pound supremacy in female boxing.
WIBA champion Garside, the world’s No. 1 rated featherweight from Ontario, agrees that hershowdown against the No. 1 ranked lightweight, WIBA and IBA title-holder Hallback, of Tampa, could very well steal the “Finally” PPV show. “I’ve heard that and it’s because of what both of us bring to the table,” Jeannie explained. “When things get slow in a fight, I pump-up the pace to get the crowd into it. That’s my style; I feel the crowd and love to hear them. I’m so grateful to be part of the best women’s boxing card ever. Every single bout is exciting with eight women coming to fight. The passion in us makes our fights so exciting, especially on a show of this level taking women’s boxing to another level. I’ve sparred with Mary Jo. We’re close and I’m excited to be fighting on the same card as her.
“I’ve known Chevelle since I turned pro and we both fought once on the same card. She is one of the best fighters out there. I believe I’ve been underestimated in the past, but she’s not going to underestimate me. We’re getting an opportunity to put a fire under the butts of everybody watching our fight. It has all of the makings of a great fight….the Fight of the Night!”
Garside was a highly-decorated Canadian amateur boxer who started boxing after watching Christy Martin fight on a Mike Tyson undercard in 1996, quickly developing into the 1998 & 1999 British Columbia champion and 1998 British Columbia Fighter of the Year. She earned a spot on the Canadian National Women’s Boxing Team and won a gold medal in the 2000 Canadian National Championships.
Her boxing career suffered a set-back when she tore an ACL in her knee during a touch football game in 2000, which required reconstructive surgery, but a year later Jeannine reached the semifinals of the AIBA World Amateur Championships and she won her fourth straight national title in 2002. Garside finished her amateur career with a 40-5 record. She made her pro debut on December 4, 2004, taking a four-round decision from Heather Percival in Tacoma, Washington, captured the WIBA super bantamweight title in only her fourth pro fight, and the WIBA featherweight title in her seventh.
In her fourth pro fight, the aggressive southpaw Garside easily won a 10-round decision (99-90, 98-90, 98-91) against Lisa Brown (12-1-2) for her WIBA super bantamweight crown. Last November, Jeannine added the WIBA featherweight title belt to her collection, dominating an exciting 10-round decision (100-87, 99-89, 98-90) against Laura Serrano (16-2-2).
“When I won my first world title in only my fourth pro fight,” Garside remarked, “there were some naysayers. Now, though, I have credibility because they know I have the skill and talent of a true champion. My best experience was fighting Europeans in the amateurs, when I developed my ring generalship and mind set I need to fight. I’m proud of my amateur career, but most women don’t spend a lot of time as amateurs. Hopefully, women’s boxing will be added to the Olympics. and more women will get into amateur boxing.”
Also on PPV, IBA junior featherweight champion Wendy Rodriguez (18-4, 3 KOs), of Los Angeles, takes on WIBF-GBU/WIBC minimumweight title-holder Hollie “Hot Stuff” Dunaway (21-6, 10 KOs), fighting out of Las Vegas by way of (Van Buren) Arkansas, in a 10-round vacant IBA strawweight title fight; WBC 2007 Fighter of the Year, WBC mininumweight champ Carina “La Reina” Moreno (11-1, 5 KOs), of Watsonville (CA), faces WIBA flyweighttitle-holder Eileen “The Hawaiian Mongoose” Olszewski (5-0-1), fighting out of New York City by way of Honolulu, in a 10-round title fight for the IFBA junior flyweight crown. All fights and fighters are subject to change.
Tickets, priced at $50.00, $100.00, $150.00, $200.00, $350.00 and $500.00, go on sale March 18 at the Isleta Casino and Resort box office, www.tickets.com or at Fresquez Productions, Inc. (508.884.7484). For more information go to www.fresquezproductions.com or www.holmvssanders.com. Doors open at 5:30 PM/MT, first bout 7:00 PM/MT, first televised bout 8:00 PM/MT.
