NEW YORK, April 23, 2008 – The first-ever International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI) individual title bout between light heavyweights stars Vladimir Matyushenko (Belarus) and Alex Schoenauer (Las Vegas) and IFL World Grand Prix semifinal contests featuring stars Jay Hieron (Las Vegas), Delson Heleno (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Roy Nelson (Las Vegas) will be among those featured in the next edition of “IFL Fight Night” on Fox Sports Net (FSN). The episode debuts on Saturday, April 26, at midnight local time in most markets.

In the feature bout, Matyushenko, unbeaten in IFL competition, takes on Schoenauer, who first gained attention in the MMA world as a contestant on the first Ultimate Fighter program, in the IFL’s first individual Championship. Other bouts on the one-hour telecast include:
• Hieron, a Long Island, N.Y., native, tries to follow up his submission victory over Donnie Liles (Colorado Springs, Colo.) in this 170-lb. rematch

• Antoine Jaoude (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), unbeaten in IFL competition, takes on Shane Ott (Reading, Pa.), a surprise semifinalist after a stunning win over Chad Griggs.
Veteran IFL play-by-play man Kenny Rice is joined by MMA legend Bas Rutten at the microphone ringside, with Ron Kruck providing additional commentary. The bouts were contested at the Sears Centre in suburban Chicago in November.
In addition to the weekly “IFL Fight Night” on FSN, as well as in over 70 other countries and five continents around the world, ranging from HBO Latin America to Star TV in Asia and Middle Eastern Broadcasting and the Armed Forces Network, the first three IFL events of the year are being shown live on HDNet. IFL programming is already among the most viewed MMA programming worldwide, despite being in existence only two years.
The next live IFL event is set for May 16 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., where three Championship belts will be on the line. HDNet will again provide live coverage.

U.S.A. v. Puerto Rico National Teams
Live Webcast on www.GoFightLive.tv
This Saturday, April 26th at 7pm
National Teams from the United States and Puerto Rico will convene in the boxing Mecca of Philadelphia for an Olympic-style boxing dual on April 26 at the Liacouras Center. This major event will feature top boxers from both teams as each prepare for the Olympic Games.
The competition will showcase many of the athletes who will be vying for gold in Beijing in August. The United States and Puerto Rico battled prior to the Olympic Games in 2004 as well, and many of the same faces could be on hand for the April 26 match-up. 2007 World Champion and two-time Olympian Rau’shee Warren (Cincinnati, Ohio) could face a rematch with 2008 Puerto Rican Olympian and Pan American Games gold medalist McWilliams Arroyo. The two squared off at the light flyweight division in their earlier battle, but both have moved up to the flyweight division for the
2008 Olympic Games.
“The U.S. National Team has had a strong rivalry with Puerto Rico for years. This event will preview many of the top contenders in Beijing, and promises to be a night of outstanding competition,” said USA Boxing CEO Jim Millman.”
The United States is enjoying a resurgence in amateur boxing, and is currently ranked second in the world based upon their finish at the 2007 World Championships in Chicago, Ill. Puerto Rico and the United States haven’t faced off in head-to-head dual action since May of 2004 as the two nations battled prior to the 2004 Olympic Games.
USA Boxing, as the national governing body for Olympic-style boxing, is the United States’ member organization of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) and a member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).
See the competition LIVE Sat., April 26th, on www.GoFightLive.tv, starting at 7 PM EDT!

Posted on | April 23, 2008 | No Comments
Just a quick note as to how the fights are looking for May 29th.
The main event features Mike Paschal (16-0-1) stepping up big against former world contender Larry “Laser” Marks (29-9-1, 16 KO’s) in a ten round match.
The co-feature in a re-match (kinda) of the fight before the fight back in January. They are now ready to do it the right way.
Golden Boy heavyweight Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell makes his first appearance in the Ballroom in a four round match. York Pa. native Carney “Beeper” Bowman (9-0) returns after an impressive showing in April. And rounding out the card is Ferndale heavyweight Dan Kisner vs. Kevin Johnson.

STARNES REQUESTED RELEASE
Criticized Canadian Calls UFC Contract ‘Most Oppressive’
By Mike Russell (gfn@thefightnetwork.com)
Kalib Starnes on Monday set out to clarify circumstances regarding his pending release from the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He countered a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole in which UFC president Dana White seemed to indicate the Surrey, British Columbia, native had been cut from his contract.
“He just doesn’t belong in the UFC, and after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work,” White said, referring to Starnes’ widely criticized effort against Nate Quarry at UFC 83: Serra vs. St. Pierre 2 on Saturday at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Starnes told The Fight Network that he requested his release from the remainder of his UFC contract, which had been carried over from his appearance on “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series and ensured him three fights per year.
Clementi replaces Emerson at UFC 84
by Dann Stupp [mmajunkie] on Apr 22, 2008 at 4:36 pm in – News –
Just three days after defeating Sam Stout at this past Saturday’s UFC 83 event in Montreal, veteran fighter and rising lightweight contender Rich Clementi (31-12-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) has agreed to fill in for an injured Rob Emerson to fight Terry Etim (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC 84.
Rashad Evans vs. James Irvin UFC 85 fight booked
By: MMAmania
As we mentioned earlier, James Irvin (14-4) will replace an injured Chuck Liddell and tangle with Rashad Evans (11-0-1) in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 85 at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7.
Liddell suffered a torn hamstring and would be unfit in time for the scheduled main event. He was originally booked to scrap with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua; however, he too was injured during training and was replaced by “Sugar.”
4.Who’s at fault: Jason or Steve?
April 22, 2008 – 11:55 pm by fightlinker
There’s some debate going on as to the validity of my ‘Jason MacDonald is a late-punching smack-talking punk ass’ post. Word from Jay-Mac himself is that Ste-Maz (also known as Steve Mazzagatti to you non-hipsters) told him to keep going, which is a bit strange because you can clearly see him step in and wave the fight off. If he actually said “Keep going” after that, then he’s a freaking moron, and I’ll happily downgrade Jason from mega-douche to semi-douche – sorry, but talking trash about a guy you just beat is still lame. Not enough to revoke your Canadian citizenship card, but close.

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell tore his hamstring in training last week and was forced to pull out of his fight against Rashad Evans at UFC 85 on June 7 at O2 Arena in London, England, the UFC announced on Wednesday.
