LEGENDARY KEN SHAMROCK AND SON, RYAN, SIGN MULTI-FIGHT DEALS WITH ELITEXC

Each Will Fight On “EliteXC Presents: Cage Rage 25”
Saturday, March 8, At Wembley Arena In London, England
LOS ANGELES (Jan. 14, 2008) ? Sensational news for Los Angeles-based ProElite, Inc.’s Live Fight Division, EliteXC, and all fans of Mixed Martial Arts.
EliteXC has signed Hall-Of-Famer Ken Shamrock, “The World?s Most Dangerous Man” and one of the true MMA legends and biggest pay-per-view draws in any sport, and his son, Ryan, to multi-fight deals. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
“We’re thrilled to have signed Ken and Ryan Shamrock,” said EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw, who made the announcement Monday. “Ken is one of the most recognizable and popular figures in MMA. He has fought the biggest and some of the most important fights in MMA history.
“Ken is responsible for putting MMA on the worldwide map and making it what it is today. I have the utmost respect for all the Shamrocks. Believe me, I have signed fighters with EliteXC and many more in boxing, but I can truly say I’m as excited about this signing as I have ever been.
“I’m realIy looking forward to seeing the Shamrocks in action.”
Shaw isn’t wasting time putting Ken (kenshamrock.proelite.com), who has defeated the likes of Bas Rutten, Maurice Smith, Dan “The Beast” Severn and Kimo in his illustrious career, and Ryan (ryanshamrock.proelite.com) to work.
Father and son will compete on the same card when they fight on “EliteXC Presents: Cage Rage 25” on Saturday, March 8, at Wembley Arena in London, England.
“I’m totally committed to returning to the cage injury free and anxious about fighting in England for the first time,” the older Shamrock said. “It is very exciting for both Ryan and I. We will be making MMA history by being the first father and son to ever fight on the same card.
“This is a great opportunity we are getting with EliteXC. Give me a fight or two and I will be ready to fight anybody.”
Ryan (1-0), a promising 5-foot-9-inch, 19-year-old, fights at 135 pounds. In his April 2007 debut, he beat a 31-year-old veteran by submission (rear naked choke) at 1:38 into the first round.
The younger Shamrock has always loved sports and played football and wrestled at East Lake High School in Chula Vista, Calif.
“After high school, I enrolled at a culinary school in San Diego,” Ryan said. “But I guess fighting is in my genes because on a train ride with my dad last year to Moline, Ill., for an MMA event, I asked him if I could put college on hold and go into fighting. My dad never pushed me to get into fighting; it was just something I wanted to do.
“He said he would help me in any way he could, but to make sure I got an education in school. I promised him I would, and here we are.
“I think I am more excited than nervous about fighting on the same card with my dad. If anything, it gives me more incentive. I get the chance to show that there is another Shamrock out there who can compete as well as he can.”

U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada plans to retire Charles Shufford
Posted on | January 15, 2008 | No Comments
Jan. 25 at Foxwoods Resort Casino
PROVIDENCE (January 14, 2008) – Strengthened by his devastating knockout of James Northey last October, 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada (10-1, 2 KOs) plans to knock his next opponent, former world heavyweight title contender Charles Shufford, into retirement after their January 25th 10-round, co-main event on “Champions of Tomorrow” at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
The Las Vegas-based Shufford (20-7-1, 9 KOs), who fought Wladimir Klitschko for the WBO in 2001, holds victories against former world champion Lamon Brewster, Elieser Castillo and Jimmy Thunder.
“Shufford’s going to be my biggest test to date and I love fighting at one of the best casino in the world, Foxwoods,” Estrada said. “It’s going to be a great show with a lot of talented fighters in action. Shufford’s very experienced. He’s beaten one world champion and been in with another. I just want to take advantage of this opportunity and make some noise in the heavyweight division. Shufford’s beaten a lot of good fighters but I’m going to retire him like I did to (Robert) Wiggins and (Najee) Shaheed.
“This year I hope to stay injury free and get as many fights as possible. I’m working hard and only took a week off after my last fight. Actually, I was supposed to take a week off, but went back to the gym two days early. I worked through the holidays and started a new tradition, starting training at 11 PM on New Year’s Eve and being in the ring when the clock struck midnight. In 2008, I want to stay busy, win a regional title of some sort, and then take on a top 20 fighter. This is going to be my year.”
Jason, 26, was one of the most highly decorated American amateur boxers ever, compiling an amazing 261-14 record, also becoming the first boxer to win both the U.S. Nationals and U.S. Challenge three years (2001-2003) in a row. Highlights of his amateur career included representing the United States in the 2004 Olympics and capturing a gold medal at the 2003 Pan-American Games.
During his illustrious amateur career, Estrada defeated some of today’s leading professionals including former world title challenger DaVarryl “The Touch of Sleep” Williamson (24-5, 20 KOs), unbeatens Malik Scott (30-0, 10 KOs) and Donnell “The Real Touch of Sleep” Holmes (28-0-2, 24 KOs), Malcolm “The Showstopper” Tann (23-4, 12 KOs), Felix “Bad News” Cora, Jr. (18-2, 9 KOs), and “Famous” Michael Simms (19-7-1, 13 KOs).
Estrada recently opened his gym, “Big Six Boxing Academy” in Providence, and signed a new promotional contract extension with Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. “I want to help give kids off the streets with lots of energy like I was a place to go and learn how to box,” Estrada explained. “I hope to have 10-12 kids and eventually I’d like to have amateur fights there every other Friday night to start with like I had at the old Coventry where we had fights every Friday. We took care of some issues and I’m happy to still be fighting for CES.”
“Champions of Tomorrow,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc., will be taped live and air on Saturday, February 2 at 7:30 p.m. on CN8 and will also stream online at www.CN8.tv. Following the broadcast, the show will be available ON DEMAND to Comcast Digital Cable customers for at least one week. “Champions of Tomorrow” will also air on Cox Sports Television on February 1 at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets for “Champions of Tomorrow” are priced at $40.00, $65.00 (Silver), $100.00 (Gold) and $150.00 (Jimmy’s Platinum Club). Two VIP Presidential Suites are also available (call CES for details as well as sponsorship opportunities). To purchase tickets or for additional information contact CES (1.401.724.2253/2254 – www.cesboxing.com) or Foxwoods (1.800.200.2882/www.foxwoods.com). Doors open at 6 PM/ET, first bout at 7 PM/ET.

EUROPEAN BOXING NEWS

Jan 12, Antwerp, Belgium:
It was Sugar time again the packed Lotto Arena as “Sugar” Jackson Osei Bonsu retained the EBU welter
title with a unanimous decision over tricky, awkward and brave French challenger Brice Faradji. It was
scored 118-109, 116-111 and 115-113. Osei Bonsu was overall too strong and powerful for the challenger,
who was floored in the fifth, out on his feet late in the sixth and stunned a number of times. But his speed
and tricky movement gave the champion plenty of problems, espcially in the later rounds. The crowd was
on their feet almost throughout the fight as the two slugged it out and everyone, probably Jackson himself
as well, expected a knockout.
News: EBU jr welter champ Colin Lynes will defend the title against Juho Tolppola from Finland January 25 in
Dagenham.
Russian heavy Alexander Povetkin is sparring with Larry Donald and Michael Sprott in Berlin.
German middle Mahir Oral is out of the IBF eliminator against Fulgencio Zuniga due to a broken hand.
Ukrainian supermiddle Vitaly Tsypko is off the IBF eliminator against Robert Stieglitz due to illness.
Spanish promotional outfit Gallego Prada begins the new year February 8 in Hosptalet with a show headlined
by lightweight Paco Nohales.
German heavy Timo Hoffmann denies all wrongdoings and demands further tests. Hoffmann tested positive to
steroids after his brave stand against Aleksander Dimitrenko last year and could be facing a two year
suspension.
