Women?s World Title Fight Headlines
?The Ultimate Showdown II? Pro-Am Boxing Show
Jan. 26 at Mansfield SportsPlex
MANSFIELD, Mass. (December 20, 2007) ? A female world title match featuring two-time champion Missy ?The Fury? Fiorentino headlines ?The Ultimate Showdown II? pro-am boxing show, presented by Peter Manfredo, Sr., in association with Bash For Cash, at the Mansfield SportsPlex in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
Fiorentino (16-1, 6 KOs), reigning NABF super featherweight title-holder, takes on rugged Ela ?Bam Bam? Nunez (5-2, 1 KO) in the 10-round main event for the vacant IWBF super featherweight title. Fiorentino, a graduate of Roger Williams College in law enforcement, is a Rhode Island Sheriff. The non-stop action fighter from Cranston (RI) is a former IWBF champion in two divisions, lightweight and featherweight. Puerto Rico-native Nunez, fighting out of Jamestown (NY), is a single mother of four who works fulltime to support her family.
Three of New England?s brightest pro prospects are also on the card: New Hampshire cruiserweight Rich Gingras, Whitman (MA) super middleweight Mark ?The Italian Bazooka? DeLuca (3-0, 2 KOs), and Worcester (MA) middleweight Edwin Rodriguez making his pro debut.
?We?re going to have real fights on this card, competitive matches that will more than just satisfy the paying public,? promoter Peter Manfredo, Sr. said. ?We?re into putting on the best fights possible, not building up fighters against weak opponents. We?re not interested in signing fighters or getting fighters into position to fight for belts. Our goal is to have fans asking when our next show is going to be as they leave the Mansfield SportsPlex on January 26.
?It?s going to be great for Mansfield to host a world championship fight. Missy Fiorentino is one of New England?s most exciting fighters ? male or female ? because of the way she attacks her opponent. Nothing can stop her from coming forward. She?s going to get hit and probably will get cut and bruised, but nobody?s going to stop her. She always gives fans what they want ? real fights! Her opponent, Ela Nunez, is tough, too. It?s going to be an all out brawl. We also have some of the top New England prospects in action ? Gingras, DeLuca and Rodriguez ? and six entertaining amateur matches.?
Gingras (7-0, 4 KOs), of Claremont (NH), was the 2006 Ringside World heavyweight championship before turning professional a year ago. DeLuca (3-0, 2 KOs) was a much-decorated amateur, including top honors in the 2004 National Silver Gloves Championship as part of his pugilistic portfolio.
The 22-year old Rodriguez, born in the Dominican Republic, is making his much-anticipated pro debut after winning 89 of 93 amateur matches, highlighted by gold-medal performances in the 2006 National Golden Gloves Championships and 2005 United States Championship.
Seven amateur matches also are on tap, featuring a battle between Foxboro police officer David Fascaldo vs. Mass. Department of Corrections officer Eric Flaherty. Three other Master boxers in action include ?Easy? Ed Nelson, of Brockton; Retired U.S. Navy Seals Captain Tony ?The Tiger? O?Brien, of Brockton; Foxboro police officer Frank Acevedo. Other amateurs on the card are Pawtucket 20-year-old heavyweight Maurice Cole, as well as 15-year-olds James Perella, of Mansfield, and Toka Kahn, of Pawtucket.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project assisting U.S. armed forces men and women severely injured during conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places around the world.
Tickets priced at $25.00 (general admission), $50.00 (open seating), $75.00 (ringside) and $175.00 (pre and post fight private parties including an open bar and food). Call 401.723.1359, 508.509.3236 or go to www.bashforcashllc.com to purchase tickets or for additional information.

Mitchell Rose: The Man Who Stopped Butterbean And Tangled With Tyson Now Writes A Book
Posted on | December 21, 2007 | 2 Comments

I had the opportunity to catch up with an interesting boxing figure by the name of Mitchell Rose. Rose, a former Golden Gloves champion became the buzz of boxing following his shocking stoppage win over boxing cult phenomenon Butterbean. Rose is currently selling his book titled The Man That Beat Butterbean Now Has To Beat These City Streets.
MY: Mitchell what?s going on? I’ve seen you at the fights with your new book can you tell me about it?
MR: The book is about my life and some of the things I endured growing up in Brooklyn. It talks about the Highlight of my life which was knocking out Butterbean which earned me a lot of respect.
MY: The boxing world became familiar with you after stopping a then undefeated Butterbean. Do you still enjoy hearing about that or are you over the moment?
MR: It is still an exciting thing 11 years later because I still get love from the fans and respect as well. I have moved on in life but it will forever be a great moment.
MY: How long did it take you to write the book?
MR: A little over two years
MY: Aside from Butterbean, you had a famous street fight with Mike Tyson which led to a lawsuit. Can you tell us about that?
MR: I was hanging out at a club called Sugar Hill in Brooklyn when I saw Mike and approached him. I shook his hand, started talking to him, and then we drank a little bit. As we were leaving the club, I made a comment to Mike which upset him because I asked him to be careful with the women he was with. Mike charged at me and attacked me. We got into a wrestling match and luckily, I slipped out of his ferocious grip but ended up tumbling on the ground, severely injuring my elbow.
MY: Thanks for your time do you have any thoughts in closing?
MR: Although my career was not as successful as it could have been, I still enjoyed it. I loved the moment of beating up Butterbean in front of 20,000 people at Madison Square Garden. I also like how Tyson tried to knock me out but couldn’t! The Tyson debacle did lead to great publicity.

MIGUEL ESPINO MOVING THROUGH THE MIDDLEWEIGHT RANKINGS
Posted on | December 20, 2007 | 1 Comment
WBC CABOFE CHAMPION
MIGUEL ESPINO
Mig Jerry
Los Angeles CA
December 19, 2007
WBC CABOFE Middleweight Champion and Former Contender Star, Miguel Espino (18-2-1 7 KO’s) is quickly climbing up the charts of the World Boxing Council (WBC) and is currently ranked at #13.
With an impressive 4th round TKO against Roberto Valenzuela in November, the middleweight champion extended his winning streak to 9 in a row.
Look for Espino to defend his belt in early 2008 on a televised bout in pursuit of a world title with one of the Middleweight Champions.
When asked about a possible fight with undefeated season one “Contender” champion Sergio Mora (19-0-1 4KO’s), a smiling Espino stated, “I’ll go toe to toe with Sergio Mora. In a twelve round fight, I believe I would stop him. It would be the first for the WBC to have two former “Contender” stars fighting to climb up their rankings. He’s ranked #11 and I’m at #13. If we can make it happen, I’m all for it.”
Miguel would also like to thank everyone who’s supported him this past year, wishing them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
“I would like to thank all of my loyal fans and supporters for the love that they have showed me throughout my career. In 2008 I’m looking to get a title shot. I want to show the fans and the boxing community that I’m the real deal. I’ll fight anyone, anywhere” – WBC CABOFE Champion Miguel Espino

WBO jr middle champ Sergei Dzinziruk?s postponed defence against Czech Lukas Konecny will now go ahead as chief support to Ruslan Chagaev?s defence of the WBA heavyweight title against Brit Matt Skelton January 19 in Duesseldorf. This one was originally scheduled for November 30 in Karlsruhe.
The WBA eliminator Nikolai Valuev vs Sergei Liakhovich will indeed go ahead February 16 with Nuremberg as site.
Sauerland Event?s supermiddle prospect Karo Murat face Emiliano Cayetano December 29 in Bielefeld on the undercard to Cunningham vs Huck. Cayetano floored Mads Larsen on his previous visit to Germany but eventually lost on points.
WBO jr welter champ Ricardo Torres could be defending the title against Willy Blain in France in June with AMI promoting. If Andrea Sarritzu still holds the EBU title he could be facing mandatory challenger Bernard Inom in a supporting bout.
French site netboxe.com announce the comeback of 44-year old ex-champ Christophe Tiozzo January 12 in Paris – as a wrestler.
IBF have sanctioned an eliminator at middleweight between Mahir Oral, # 15 in the ratings, and Fulgencio Zuniga, # 10, and Arena Box Promotion writes in a press release that the winner will get the # 1 spot – should that be correct it?s not exactly in accordance with the IBF rating rules. Either way, Arena plan to do the fight in February in Hamburg.
Swedish heavy Attila Levin remains in full training in Florida for a comeback and is looking to return to the ring late January.
Undefeated Ukrainian welter Vyacheslav Senchenko won the vacant WBA I/C title and defended the EE-EU crown stopping the brave Viktor Sydorenko with a bodyshot in the third December 14 in Donetsk. Senchenko is likely to defend the WBA I/C title at the end of March. In other fights Oleg Yefimovych retained the WBO I/C featherweight title with a landslide decision over former three-time EBU challenger Yuri Voronin. Lightweight Andrei Kudriavtsev returned from the bad loss to Paulus Moses with a close win over Aram Ramazyan and Stas Kashtanov, at supermiddle, outscored Frenchman Laurent Goury.
