Frankie Edgar vs. Spencer Fisher

1st Round Frankie Edgar got two takedowns and dominated round.

2nd Round immediately Edgar gets takedown and is giving good g n’ p.

Another takedown for Edgar. Don’t think Fisher has landed a single strike except from the bottom. Edgar doing a great job of keeping Spencer down and dealing solid g n’ p. Spencer has a cut now over his left eye. Edgar moving to side control now has Spencer’s back. Spencer moved it back to gaurd.

3rd Round Spencer comes out with a flashy windmill type kick. But Frankie just catches the flashy but useless kick and puts him down. Now Frankie has Spencer’s back. Now both are on their feet. Frankie Edgar takes him down AGAIN. GEEZUZ….not doing a ton of damage but still killing on the point game. Standing up now Frankie going for takedown again and Spencer’s gets a warning about hoolding the fence but Edgar trips Fisher down again. Frankie “The Answer” Edgar is winning DOMINANTLY. I still haven’t seen Fisher land a shot except off his back. Spencer did just try for a triangle but to no avail.

Round ends with Edgar on top pounding him. Edgar dominated this fight with takedowns and ground and pound. Has to be unanimous decision…..and it is UNANIMOUS FOR FRANKIE EDGAR.

ED HERMAN VS. JOE DOERKSON
(Joe Doerkson is 39-10)
Round 1 – Herman gets a takedown. Herman lost to Doerkson about 3 years ago. We’ve got some new refs tonight I’ve never seen. Herman comes out with some GREAT striking from all kinds of angles. Elbows, punches, knees. Doerkson is cut pretty badly on the eyelid. (They just said a prelim fight was stopped due to a cut tonight) Herman laying some good ground and pound. Herman had a couple of good sprawls. Herman in full mount right now. Back to full gaurd. Herman still laying the g n’ p. Herman is imposing himself on Doerkson right now…won’t let him up or breathe much. Big elbow by Herman.

THEY WENT TO A SHOT OF SERRA ON THE BIG SCREEN AND THE CROWD ERUPTS IN APPLAUSE. NICE.

Round 2 – Herman comes in swinging. Herman pressing forward and gets a trip takedown on Joe. Alot seems to have changed in 3 years. Herman in Joe’s gaurd and Ed is landing good elbows and punches. Joe is allowing Ed to posture up and throw strikes. Ed trying to move to side mount. Ref stands them up. Joe has Ed’s back right now and looking for a kimora. Doerkson is looking for a rear naked. Now Ed has Joe’s back….wow Joe looking for a leg lock on Ed. Ed gets out. That was nice. Good stuff right here both guys trying for stuff back and forth. Ed laying some strikes from Joe’s back now. Joe rolls and gets Ed in gaurd now. Elbows from Ed. Triangle from Joe almost over but the bell sounds. Whewww…..close call right there. They said saved by the bell but I think he got out of it at the last second. One of Joe’s eyes looks bad. Maybe Ed got saved…it was close.

Round 3 – Ed Herman KNOCKS HIM THE FUCK OUT OH MY GOD THAT WAS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. OH SHIT OH SHIT. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS. Left hook to the chin. A big beautiful redemption win for Ed Herman. This could be fight of the night. Back and forth. Ed Herman’s striking has improved alot and really his overall game is improving. Damn….that was awesome guys.

THEY JUST SHOWED A AD FOR FORREST GRIFFIN APPEARING ON LAW AND ORDER THIS COMING WEEK. SHOWS FORREST PLAYING A MMA FIGHTER IN THE RING AND HIS GIRLFRIEND IS COCO Which is really IceT’s girlfriend who is also on the show. Looks like a good show.

KARO PARISYAN VS. RYO CHONAN

This could be an awesome fight.
Chonan comes out wearing a Pirahnna mask. He trains with Lindland and Henderson at team Quest. Sokodjui also trains there. Has a great camp…hope it helps him. My Follars are on Karo though. Karo walks out to Bad to the Bone lol…..oh meee.

Round 1 – Karo lands a left hook and gets a take down. Passes to half gaurd. Karo laying some g n’ p but Ryo throwing some blows back that you can hear. Karo still on top. Ryo doing a good job of avoiding damage. Ref stands them up. Both throwing bombs. Clinched up. Big takedown by Karo. Pushes Ryo up against the fence. Karo throwing elbows. Trading strikes. Karo catches Ryo’s kick and takes him down. Nice. Karo looking very good. You can really see Karo’s SKILL. He is SKILLFULL. That’s the best word I can use for him. Good round. No one suffered any real damage but I’m sure Karo won the round.

Round 2 – Randy Couture is in Karo’s corner and Joe and Goldberg never mention his name one single time. The camera is not even showing Randy but I heard his voice. Trading strikes now. Clinched against fence.

Chonan scores a punch and a good kick. Clinched again. Karo punches. Chonan lands a jab. Karo catches every leg kick Ryo throws and takes him down. AN INTERSTING NOTE HERE IS I GUESS HENDERSON IS IN CHONAN’S CORNER AND COUTURE IS IN KARO’S CORNER.

Clinched against fence. Karo gets the takedown. Good g n’ p by Karo. Good elbows from Karo. Good round for Karo keeping on the HEAT.

Round 3 – Josh Thompson I believe it is in Karo’s corner giving him good instruction on striking. Ryo will be looking for the finish now. Karo clinches. Clinched again. First small boos of the night came a few seconds ago from inaction but immediately ref seperates them. Karo takes Ryo down again. More g n’ p. Ryo rolls and now is on top. Scramble…both back up. Ryo lands a good knee to midsection. Trading jabs. Clinched again. Trading jabs again. Karo switches to southpaw at will. Spinning back fist from Karo connects barely. Clinched again agains cage. Elbow from Karo. Small boos. Fight goes to judges. I’m sure Karo wins. Karo give a little bow to the audience and Rogan says it looks like he’s bowing in sort of an apology for a boring fight. It wasn’t a total snooze but just a little lack luster. It was ok. UNANIMOUS DECISION FOR KARO. He’ll take that win. Wasn’t real pretty but got the W. Karo apologizes to his fans says he had some personal issues. Karo says he’ll try to look better next time. To Karo’s credit though, Ryo Chonan looked like a tough opponent and really didn’t give Karo alot to work with. It wasn’t that Karo was inactive very much. Like I said, in round one he looked really Skillfull but both of them slowed down a bit in the third.

Looks like Karo is sponsored by Assassins Creed video game. It’s on his shorts!!! How cool is that!!

HERE WE GO
HOUSTON ALEXANDER VS. THIAGO SILVA
Many questions will be answered right here.
Round 1 – I hate to see rising stars get pulled down. Everyone believes somewhere in that Cinderella Story. Houston has a ton of fans here.
oh shit.
Thiago tapped out!!
only joking.

Round 1 – Silva throws leg kick. Clinched. Houston is calm and patient. Waiting. Houston just picked him up and slammed him. Silva is on top. Houston is on his back so now we will see. Silva is mounted on Houston. Hoston taking some shots. That’s it. Houston gets pounded out. All questions answered….Brazilian Ju-Jitsu is still alive….it will still beat any superman punch out artist. Houston has no ground game. Houston actually got KO’d. Silva slices the throat for the camera. Houston is till wobbling at the declaration. So much for rising stars. That’s it and all the confirmation I needed. Houston was a fluke. He can sink all his time and training into BJJ and maybe come back but……..

Houston has heart and fire and personality and muscles and can punch but once he got on the ground it was over. This is why no one will come out from nowhere and dominate the UFC. It just won’t happen. If no one’s heard of you there’s a reason.

Thiago Silva was very classy in winning and he said that Houston is a hero to me because he is a single father of six children and takes care of them. He said could everyone give him a round of applause please. Very classy.

I heard Affliction sponsored Houston…gave him his own shirt even…….damn.

I just realized that Thiago Silva has knocked out 10 of his last 12 opponents and he’s undefeated. Whew…..The light-heavyweight division is so freakin stacked.

RASHAD EVANS VS. MICHAEL BISPING
Bisping has said if he loses tonight, he may drop down in weight. That doesn’t sound too confident.

All new referees tonight. I had never seen a single one of them. Wonder what’s up with that. I think this is the FIRST UFC MAYBE THAT I HAVEN’T SEEN BIG JOHN. No Herb Dean…no Mazzigatti??? WTF?

Round 1 – Bisping actually got quite a few boos. Kind of weird. Good stare down. Bisping looks a bit nervous. He knows this is the big boys. Evans lands a right hand. Clinched against the fence. Rashad looking for the takedown. Finally gets him down. But Bisping wasn’t quite down actually back up and still clinched. USA chants from the crowd. Rashad still looking for takedown. Ref breaks them up. Rashad throws combos then looks for the takedown. Crowd getting restless ha ha ha. Bisping doing good job of avoiding takedown. Rashad lands a right. Rashad finally gets a takedown. Rashad popped him pretty good. Rashad has side control. Bisping gets up though. Clinched again. Bisping had a muay thai clinch for about a second. Rashad gets a takedown though. Side control by Rashad. Elbow by Evans. Bisping really squirming to get up but Rashad still controlling. Round over with RAshad on top. No real damage by either fighter though I’m sure Rashad won the round.

Round 2 – Bisping breathing hard in the corner. Bisping comes out fast and Rashad lands a big right. Picks Bisping up high kaboom slam. Nice. Rashad in Bisping’s open gaurd…closed gaurd. Bisping holding on to Evans good. Rashad postures up but Bisping controlling Evan’s wrist. Ref stands them up. Bispng lands a couple of good jabs. Bisping looks a bit fresher. Evans mouth is open. Bisping using some Muay Thai clinch I’ve never seen him use. They traded some jabs and strikes clinched again. Rashad lands a good right. Bisping goes for a takedown and gets it at the buzzer. Hmmmmmm………very close round….have no idea who won that.

Round 3 – Bisping is not sitting down in between rounds. Rashad looks tired and breathing hard. Bisping looks fine. I’ve noticed that Rashad uses a lot of energuy just dancing. Alot of energy in my opinion that is basically wasted. Bisping snaping some nice punches. Rashad goes for takedown and finally gets it. Rashad postures up and Bisping scoots back to try and get up. Turns it over and has Rashad’s back now. Lost it. Clinched standing. Trading punches. Rashad lands a hook. Good combo by Evans. Evans goes for the takedown and has him with his back against the cage. They’re back up body kick Bisping. Combo from Rashad. Rashad is winning by points for sure in this round. 40 seconds left. Slug fest is coming. Going to the judges. Pretty damn good battle. Both these guys are tough no doubt about it. Quinton was giving Bisping some pointers in between rounds. No real big damage by either fighter but I do believe Rashad won it.

Dana came up and told Rashad great fight. Rashad and Bisping hug and congratulate each other. Dana tells Bisping great fight too.

Rashad is wearing an Assassin’s Creed hat. Hmm. Have I mentioned that’s a great damn game!! Rashad even mentioned the game in his thank you’s!! LOL.

Good grief….Bisping said he thought he won the fight. Geez….this guy man….whaddaya gonna do?

SPLIT DECISION FOR SUGAR RASHAD EVANS!!!

CONGRATULATIONS SUGAR RASHAD AND MOVES TO 16-0-1

STILL UNBEATEN.

BONUS FIGHT::::

JOE LAUZON VS. JASON REINHARDT
First of all Reinhardt walks out to some god awful country redneck music. There’s good country (Cash) then there’s god awful country….this was awful.

1st round – Reinhardt is five foot six. Geez….that’s short. Reinhardt is also 38 years old making his UFC debut. J-Lau gets the takedown quickly. Passes gaurd. Goes north south. Joe is looking sharp and has B.J. in his corner. Joe flips around faster than a bullet for rear naked choke and wins.

THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE MAIN EVENT!!!

J-LAU IS MY HERO!! Love that guy man. Super fast just like we all know he can do. Reinhardt looked like he went to sleep then he taps. Not even a sweat. Wooooweee Joe training in Hawaii with B.J. look out baby this guy is mr. amazing. A phukkin superhero IMO.

Bet that’s the last time we see J-Lau on the undercard. Joe is now training full time for the first time in his life he’s always either had a job too or school but no more. Joe goes and celebrates with Penn outside the ring.

Joe didn’t even get the submission of the night it was an armbar by Gono against Tandem McCrory. Though Rogan said he protested and said Lauzon should have got it. I think Gono got it because it was a very nasty looking armbar that twisted it all funky up behind the dude…..nasty. But Joe’s looked more impressive and explosive for sure.

MIGUEL ESPINO MAKES A GREAT IMPRESSION DURING SCHOOL VISIT

A LETTER FROM DANIEL HERNANDEZ, 4TH GRADE TEACHER AT HUBBARD ST. ELEMENTARY IN SYLMAR CA.

On Friday, November 9, 2007, Miguel Espino was invited to be a guest speaker at Hubbard St. Elementary. I am a fourth grade teacher at the school and spoke to the fourth grade faculty about having Miguel speak to our classes as part of our unit opener entitled “Dreams to Jobs”. I could not think of a better person to come in and talk to our students about turning their dreams into a reality. Miguel came Friday morning from 9:00-10:30 and spoke to three groups of 50 fourth grade students which ranged in age from 9-10 years old. He was well prepared as he talked to all three groups about his dreams of becoming a professional boxer. He expressed all of the dedication and hard work it takes to reach any dream and emphasized the importance of education. He answered all of the students’ questions and left such a great impression that some students asked for autographs. He kept students and faculty intrigued as he shared his stories, passed around his boxing belt, and showed his boxing robe. Students were excited when they heard that a professional boxer was going to speak to them and they have been asking me about him this whole week. He truly made a positive impact on the students by reiterating that it does not matter where you come from or who you are, but with hard work and an education, anyone can reach their dream. My colleagues and myself were very happy with Miguel’s presentation and hope to have him back in the future.

Hubbard St. Elementary is located at 13325 HUBBARD ST. SYLMAR, CA 91342. (818)367-1944. Principal: Mrs. Suellen Helm-Torres. I am Daniel Hernandez, 4th grade teacher.

BERNARD HOPKINS IS APPALLED!

Posted on | November 16, 2007 | No Comments

A LETTER TO THE BOXING COMMUNITY FROM BERNARD HOPKINS:

“I AM SHOCKED AND APPALLED!!!”

I am shocked and appalled at the decision by the New Jersey States Attorney General Anne Milgram and her office to dismiss Larry Hazzard from his services as longstanding head of the New Jersey State Athletic Commission. I am standing up to renounce this decision and I encourage all members of the boxing community—fighters, trainers, judges, promoters, commissioners, television networks, and the media—to join me in protesting this decision.

What’s most disturbing is that they not only did they do this the same day he buried his 41-year old nephew, but they also admitted that “Commissioner Hazzard did nothing wrong. It was just time for a change.” (Atlantic City Press, Nov. 16.) This might be a change that they needed but it is certainly not a change that boxing needs. We were just fine with Larry Hazzard as a leader in our sport.

Larry Hazzard for the past 22 years has run one of, if not the most, efficient and ethical Commissions in boxing. From a fighter’s viewpoint, he championed safety and welfare for all of us, whether we were champions or just four-round fighter. He was always looking to improve the sport and never feared speaking his mind for the greater good of boxing.

The bigger question here, and as far as I know, Ms. Milgram did not consult anyone within the boxing community to get opinions to base her decision on. Boxing is a difficult sport anyway and how are they going to be able to replace Larry Hazzard with someone who is as competent as he is? I have to use the old saying here, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

Please join me in expressing your outrage by contacting the State’s Attorney General’s office. You can write to 25 Market Street, Trenton, NJ, 08625-0080 or call 609-292-4925 or send an email to http://www.nj.gov/oag/offices.htm .

Thank you,

Bernard Hopkins

[mpinpage]

Midwest Cage Championships 8 Tournament Champion

Q. How long have you been a Mixed Martial Artist?
A. I have been training for about three years and training for two.

Q. Where did your career begin, and what led you to the sport of MMA?
A. My career began in Des Moines, I had my first fight in August of 05 against Jeremy Stephens. I started out as a fan that just wanted to check it out, I had no plans of doing this for a living, I had my first fight-got my butt kicked and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Q. What part of your game has developed the most due to your involvement with Team OJJ?
A. I owe everything I know to Team OJJ(Oregon Judo & Jiu-Jitsu). When I first walked through the doors at the Oregon Martial Arts Club I had no experience at all. They shaped me into the fighter I am today.

Q. You have great hands, did you have any formal boxing before MMA? And how many K.O’s have you had in your career up to this point?
A.I’ve never competed in boxing or any other sport before entering MMA. I focus alot on my hands because that’s my favorite thing to do. I only have one clean KO on my record most of my other wins are TKO.

Q. Have you had any submission victories and which submission is your favorite?
A. I have had two professional wins by Rear Naked Choke but my favorite sub would have to be the Triangle Choke.

Q. Alot of us who have seen you fight know you have quick hands. That being said, what is a perfect fight for you and what type of opponent do you match up the best with?
A. I fight better the harder my opponent fights, so the perfect fight for me would be the two of us fighting our hearts out the whole fight and then winning by knock out with five seconds left on the clock, it couldn’t get any better than that! As far as the best match up for me, I like fighting strikers because that’s what I like to do.

Q. Is there any one moment that sticks out the most for you since you began fighting?
A. There has been too many great moments in my life since I began fighting for me to chose only one. I think just becoming a fighter would be the best moment in my career.

Q. Tell the world of MMA about your gym/training partners/coaches.
A. I moved to Oregon in January 06 to train at the Oregon Martial Arts Club where I cross train in Judo, McQuary Jiu-Jitsu, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Pankration. My instructors there have taught me so much especially my MMA/Grappling coach Scott McQuary who has put in alot of his personal time into training me, and my Muay Thai instructor Sean Haylee who I credit my stand-up game to. I also have great training partners there who push me everyday including Enoch Wilson who has also had a huge influence on making me the fighter that I am.

Q. Who or what is your biggest influence in the sport, and if you had to pick one who is your favorite Fighter?
A. My biggest influence is my family and friends who have been there for me since the beginning, they haven’t let me down and i’m not gonna let them down. Favorite fighter? Hmm… Bas Rutten hands down.

Q. What is your ultimate goal as a fighter and what steps are you taking to get there?
A. My goal right now is to just be the best fighter that I can be, I want to get my shot at the big show but until that happens I’m just gonna continue to improve and take one fight at a time.

Q. Do you have any good rivalries in MMA or anyone specific you want to fight in the near future?
A. I’ll fight anyone really as long as they’re good I never want an easy fight I’d rather fight someone that can beat me than someone who doesn’t have a chance. There are a few people in the big shows that I’d like to fight but I have to earn those fights first.

Q. Do you have anything to say to those in the Boxing community that fell that MMA is less of a true sport than Boxing?
A. There are alot of people in the boxing community that are giving us a hard time saying that MMA isn’t a real sport, but unless they get in the cage and see what MMA is really all about their opinion doesn’t mean anything to me at all. Unless you train and compete in Mixed Martial Arts you have no idea what it really entails.

NEW WORLD CHAMP DAVID HAYE BECOMING A HOUSEHOLD NAME IN BOXING

Posted on | November 15, 2007 | 1 Comment

Frank Maloney Praises New World Champion David Haye
British boxing has moved to the forefront of the world stage this past Saturday, when David Haye sensationally knocked out WBC/WBA Cruiserweight Jean-Marc Mormeck in the Frenchman’s back yard of Paris.

The people who have been tolling the death bells of the sport will have to keep at it because this was one of the best performances by a British boxer that I have witnessed in my 27 years in boxing.

It wasn’t a classic performance necessarily but it was full of thrills and excitement as two gunslingers came together with the sole intention of blasting each other out.

Haye proved his boast beforehand that he is the most exciting fighter in the world today by climbing off the floor in the fourth round to stop the Frenchman in the seventh.

I’ve watched many fighters in my career and I’ve enjoyed many fights, but watching David Haye will put you on the edge of your seat. Not only can he fight, he brings the ultimate in excitement to the ring.

Haye has set the tone for all fighters in Britain; they mustn’t be afraid to go anywhere in order to win a title. If you believe in yourself enough and can look good in winning, it doesn’t matter where you fight or who you fight.

Haye is a throwback. If you look at his record, he has never ducked anyone and has always fought his best against whoever has been put in with him.

On Saturday night, David sent the handful of Englishmen in the Paris arena into raptures, while silencing the whole of France.

The boos and anger towards David Haye, and particularly my Union Jack suit, turned into cheers for Haye and everyone wanted to have their photo taken with the walking flag. It just shows you how a good fighter can turn a hostile crowd.

45TH WBC CONVENTION KICKS OFF IN PHILLIPINES

Posted on | November 15, 2007 | 2 Comments

WORLD BOXING COUNCIL NEWS

November 12, 2007 – Manila , Philippines .

The World Boxing Council’s 45th annual convention officially opened this morning at the Manila Hotel.

The opening ceremony was a great success and included the attendance of Philippines President Mrs. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. WBC President Jose Sulaiman described her as, “Intelligent, mature, and well-known for her relentless leadership against poverty. She is a great leader for human equality and all women in the world, as well.”

President Sulaiman presented President Macapagal with a green and gold WBC world championship belt, a tribute that has been given to great leaders in the past such as United States President Ronald Reagan, Argentinian President Carlos Menem, South African President Nelson Mandela, and Pope John Paul II.

WBC International super featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao gave a welcoming speech to the assembly, and later met and took photographs with his fans and admirers.

WBC Emeritus heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko addressed the assembly and told a story about how he watched his first professional title fight on television at the age of 14: Mike Tyson winning the WBC heavyweight world title against Trevor Berbick. Vitali said that he was so impressed and motivated by the fight that he told his friends that he would one day become WBC heavyweight champion and hold the green belt, to which his friends responded by laughing and telling him that he was dreaming. 20 years later, Vitali said he called those same friends for a lunch meeting in Kiev , Ukraine , and when he arrived, he put his WBC world championship green belt on the table. He said they all laughed again and hugged each other.

Also present were former WBC world champions Jeff Fenech, Oscar Larios, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, Veeraphol Nakhonluang, John Stracey, Gerry Peñalosa, and Rolando Navarrete.

Representatives for many major promoters were in attendance, as well.

The opening day ceremony included the presentation of the WBC Board of Governors, African sports dignitaries Mr. Kashiba and Mr. Ganga, all the WBC Committee Chairmen, WBC members, and other attendants who totalled over 780 persons.

The ring officials seminar and certification program was held in the afternoon with a record attendance of 135 ring officials. The seminar for judges included an evaluation of 12 rounds of different boxing scenarios, and a thorough discussion of ideas and opinions about such actions.

All promoters and managers in attendance had the opportunity to address the ratings committee regarding their fighters. Ratings and mandatories will be discussed in the general assembly meeting on Wednesday.

President Sulaiman gave his annual report and set the goals for his next year as president, which included the following topics:

· Ratification of the announcement of the judges’ scores after the fourth and eighth round of world championship fights.
· Participation with the government of the Philippines for medical and technical support.
· The concern regarding how the biggest television networks currently support only a few boxers and promoters, leaving out the rest.
· The recognition of the importance of the smaller television networks that support many boxers and promoters around the world, without whose support boxing would die. President Sulaiman also said that while the biggest networks televise and profit from boxing’s cream, they do not produce the milk, which is a process that the WBC supports through its Continental Federations.
· Deep concern for the very low professional level in the corners of boxers. A world school of trainers with courses held around the world will address medical, technical, tactical and other types of physical and mental issues.
· The implementation of instant replay to review only specific actions like headbutts, low blows, punches landed after the bell, among others.
· Another priority of the WBC will be the absolute agreement between the affiliated national boxing federations and commissions to work together to stop the participation of any boxer that does not have the official medical approval of his commission of residence. This will stop mismatches, substitution of identities, performance of suspended boxers, and the piracy of boxers.
· The NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL have their own boxing networks. Why not boxing ? This would give more opportunities to promoters and boxers who are not supported by the biggest networks and our beloved sport will flourish.
· That the present heroes of boxing will be gone by 2010, and the WBC is encouraging all boxing federations of the world to promote undercard tournaments for the developement of the new era of boxing to find the next generation of heroes for the second decade of the 21st century.

President Sulaiman closed his speech by saying, “The WBC is not a one-person organization, but an important number of great boxing citizens of the world without whose efforts the WBC could not be the most respected and credible organization in the world today. I am not the President, but the servant of boxing and the WBC.”

He also expressed his profound gratitude to the Governor of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Felix Gonzalez Canto, for his important leadership in hosting the Second World Boxing Medical Congress in Cancun in April, which was a tremendous success with the particpation of 300 boxing doctors from 89 countries of the world.

The convention’s opening night gala dinner will be held in Manila ’s historic Intramuros district.

The official WBC Manila Convention magazine can be downloaded in .pdf format at: wbcboxing.com – then go to “downloads.”

FRIDAY NIGHT: LATIN THUNDER IN CHICAGO

Posted on | November 15, 2007 | 1 Comment

This Friday night’s SOLO BOXEO card, LATIN THUNDER, received an upgrade in the main event as David “THE DESTROYER” Lopez of Nogales, Mexico will now be taking on Dominican spoiler David Toribio in a ten round middleweight bout at Cicero Stadium, it was announced Wednesday evening by Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions, HOME OF THE BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING.

Tickets for LATIN THUNDER are available in advance by calling the
8 Count Productions offices at 312-226-5800. Cicero Stadium is located at 1909 S. Laramie, just minutes from the Eisenhower and Stevenson Expressways. Doors for this event will open at 5:30pm with the first bell at 6:30pm.

Toribio, coming off a SOLO BOXEO televised first round knockout of
undefeated prospect Juan Camilo Novoa this past August 3rd in Arcadia , Florida has once again agreed to step in on short notice to face Lopez. Darryl Salmon, originally scheduled to face Lopez pulled out due to illness.

In September 2006, Toribio, 14-9 (8KO’s), now living in Miami, went to the famed Michael’s 8th Avenue venue in Baltimore, Maryland and won an eight round decision over undefeated hometown favorite Ishmael Arvin.

Said Pesoli, “Darryl Salmon pulled out this week due to illness, but our matchmaker Jerry Alfano did a great job lining up Toribio to put together a terrific main event. I’ve seen Lopez fight numerous times and saw Toribio’s recent first round knockout of Novoa and three of his other fights. They’re both real warriors who should put on a great battle for our fans.

With former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez in the co-main event and a great undercard with Fonfara, Rita Figueroa and newcomers Ivan Popoca and Henry Coyle the fight fans in Chicago are in a for a great night of boxing.”

Lopez, 32-12 (21KO’s), has won eight in a row, including five by knockout.

The full LATIN THUNDER card is

Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Jose Angel Berenza, ten rounds, super bantamweights
