TAKEDOWN RADIO AND MAT MAGAZINE FORM STRATEGIC AGREEMENT TO INCREASE PROMOTION OF WRESTLING ON GLOBAL SCALE
Posted on | August 8, 2007 | No Comments
Des Moines, IA- August 8, 2007- TakeDown Radio, a ten year old radio program originating from the U.S. announced a strategic agreement today with UK based on-line publication, Mat Magazine (Martial Arts Television – magazine). Through the new agreement, Mat Magazine adds significant reporting and content regarding wrestling and combat sports in the United States. At the same time, Mat Magazines reach outside the U.S. will increase TakeDown Radio’s listener base on a global scale.
“We believe this is a natural progression for our publication as well as the radio program.” commented Jeroen Winters, Mat Magazines founder. “The ways readers and listeners interests parallel each other are amazing. The growing popularity of mixed martial arts (MMA) in Europe and other countries has developed a strong interest in wrestling, particularly wrestling in the United States. TakeDown Radio’s provocative reporting will serve to educate a willing audience.” Winters added.
Mat Magazine, a seven year old company, with offices in Los Angeles, London (UK) and the Netherlands, owns matchannel.com, an internet video provider. As part of the strategic agreement, all web sites owned and managed by both companies provide links to audio and video streaming, archived programming, pod casting, up to the minute news, action, and interviews.
“We’ve anticipated the day our relationships with kindred spirits would combine with technology, allowing us to expand our message and mission on a global scale. With Mat Magazine, we’ve realized our goal and have gone even further to reach the people in those markets that care most” offered TakeDown Radio founder Scott Casber. “TDR has always believed the strongest, most balanced, and successful MMA competitors have a broad understanding of wrestling. We’re confident our partnership with Mat Magazine will contribute to enriching the overall experience for all involved.” Casber concluded.
TakeDown Radio provides over 600 hours of live programming per year, including live broadcasts from major collegiate wrestling events, as well as national and international competitions. Mat Magazine provides free reporting on several combat sports including MMA, kickboxing, and Muay Thai. Matchannel.com provides video programming, including considerable archives of key competitions. Video programming on matchannel.com is available for free and at a charge.

FEEL THE PAIN FIGHTING SYSTEMS TRAINING CENTER SET TO OPEN SATURDAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FEEL THE PAIN FIGHTING SYSTEMS MMA TRAINING CENTER
GRAND OPENING SET FOR AUGUST 11TH @ 9:00 A.M.
Borne out of Feel The Pain Fight Gear (www.feelthepainfightgear.com), Feel The Pain Fighting Systems (www.ftpfightingsystems.com) offers a whole new outlook on mixed martial arts. The all-new FTP Fighting Systems training center based in Pittsburgh, PA is the first step in bringing Sensei Khristian “The Sandman” Geraci’s unique MMA Black Belt program across the nation and the world. The center will hold a grand opening ceremony on Saturday, August 11th starting at 9:00 A.M. and featuring a chance to participate in seminars and meet some professional mixed martial artists.
Greg and Kim Peverill started Feel The Pain Fight Gear after watching MMA fights for years and wanting to play a more significant role in the sport. The company launched its Web-site in early 2007, and today Feel The Pain Fight Gear is a complete success. The couple’s concept has produced healthy product sales and allowed them to sponsor about 20 up-and-coming fighters in the sport. Looking for how to kick it up a notch, they met Khristian Geraci by chance, and Feel The Pain Fighting Systems blossomed out of that first connection.
“We met on a happenstance,” said Geraci about their first meeting in Richmond, Virginia. “My cornerman got stuck in New York, and I needed a cornerman.” Peverill volunteered and found himself closer to the action than ever. It was an unforgettable experience.
“It was the first time I’ve ever done that, the first time I’ve ever been that close to the ring and seen the fight that close,” said Greg, “That was cool, I totally enjoyed that.”
“If it didn’t happen, Feel The Pain Fighting Systems would have been a thought and a dream,” recalls Greg about the day he connected with Geraci. “Instead of a dream now it’s a reality.”
The ultimate goal for the Peverills and Geraci is to see the whole concept spread across the country. “I’d love to see feel the pain fighting systems go nationwide,” said Greg. He plans to start on the East Coast, move into the Cleveland area and then out West.
At the center of the training center’s unique approach is the unprecedented and original MMA Black Belt program. Sensei Geraci developed his own MMA Black Belt program over the course of 11 years. He’s been fighting for over 26 years now and came across a plethora of styles he built into the program. “The sport’s evolved to a point where one style no longer works. You have to be well-rounded. You have to train in all aspects of the game,” Geraci explained. “I started experimenting with other systems, taking what was good, and throwing out what was bad. Anything you can think of you’ll find in my program if it works in the ring.”
Geraci hopes that his black belt program will spread to other schools and across the industry. “I honestly see Feel The Pain Fighting Systems becoming one of the most well known names in Mixed Martial Arts,” he said.
Above and beyond the class offerings the training center will provide, Geraci’s incredible character stands out as one of the most important aspects of Feel The Pain Fighting Systems. “I think the reason Greg, Kim and I get along so well is that we’re not like most companies. We’re not out there just to make money. For me, personally, the money is the last of the issues,” said Geraci. “I want to see the sport grow. I care very much for my students and my fighters. I spend a lot of my time working with them, giving them individual attention. I want to make sure when I’m teaching classes everyone’s learning, everyone’s getting better, and no one’s falling behind. If I gotta stay past closing time, if I gotta come in on Sunday, I’ll do whatever it takes to help my students out.”
With the center already open for select students, Geraci even taught class on his birthday recently.
“We’re very impressed with Khristian, his work ethic, and just in general he’s a good person. He’s got a good heart and a good head on his shoulders,” said Peverill about Geraci.
Peverill also mentioned that the gym might be opening its doors to some inner city kids as part of a community outreach program. In a mentor role, Geraci will no doubt be able to steer plenty of under privileged kids in the right direction
The school has already attracted some phenomenal pro-fighters who will be battling under the FTP Fighting Systems banner. Alan Stryker Stamp, Dan Karnbauer, David Sachs, Nikki Domer and Johana Skonezny are all in the mix already.
The facility itself offers 1,200 square feet of grappling mat, a striking area, a private training facility, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a full size pro shop, in-house supplement sales, and specialists coming in to help in different areas of the martial arts. The center is located at 734 Brookline Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15226.
Saturday’s grand opening schedule will include seminars, demonstrations, pro fighters going through workouts, a meet and greet period, and a chance for all interested students to learn more about what the sport of MMA entails. Participants in the day’s events can also get $50 off gym membership and are eligible for free giveaways from FTP Fight Gear.

Moreira & Kimo team-up for New Era Fighting
Posted on | August 8, 2007 | No Comments
SANTA ANA, California (August 8, 2007) – Legendary Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor and fighter Joe “Macaco” Moreira is working with his good friend, Kimo Leopoldo, to develop a mixed-martial-arts show between Team USA and Team Brazil New Era Fighting (NEF), the most entertaining MMA organization.
Moreira, who now lives in Newport Beach (CA), is a 7th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, 3rd degree Judo and Ruas Vale Tudo Black Belt with 40 years of experiencing as an MMA trainer. He is a three-time World Championship winner, represented Brazil in the 1984 Olympics, and started training when he was nine years old at the famed Carlson and Rolls Gracie School, where he was mainly coached by Reylson Gracie and Pinduka.
“Kimo and I fought on the same show,” Joe explained his friendship with NEF champion Kimo. “I had a problem with my coach and the next day in the lobby he and some of his people confronted me. Kimo stepped in (on Joe’s behalf) and we’ve been good friends ever since. It must be around 12 years now. I taught him, we’ve stayed at each other’s house, and trained together.
“We’re trying to find sponsors for a fight in Brazil. We could get up to 20,000 fans, but it all depends on the sponsorships we raise. There are a lot of tough, young fighters in Brazil who will put on a great show. These kids just need a chance. They’re all-around MMA fighters, not just trained in Brazlilian jiu-jitsu, and a lot are heavyweights.”
“My sensei, Joe Moreira, trained with the Gracies and has done more for Brazilian jiu-jitsu in this country than even the Gracies,” Kimo remarked. “What we’re trying to do at New Era Fighting is get back to the true spirit of mixed martial arts. Fans are getting bored with fighters on shows who have the same style of fighting.”
“We’re trying to incorporate different styles of mixed martial arts,” NEF president Ron Kort said. “We want fighters who box, wrestle, grapple, karate, jiu-jitsu, kick-box – all different styles of fighting – against each other. A Team USA vs. Team Brazil show would also serve as recruiting for our ongoing ‘World’s Toughest Man’ contest. We’ve signed a few fighters from tryouts and we’re planning to sign more. We are a global organization and promoting a show in Brazil would expand out market.”

Hennessy smokes Warren’s loafers: REID TO FIGHT FROCH
Posted on | August 8, 2007 | No Comments
Carl Froch will defend his British super-middleweight title against former WBC world champion Robin Reid at the Nottingham Arena on November 2nd after his promoter Mick Hennessy won the purse bid for the right to stage the highly anticipated clash earlier today.
Hennessy saw off competition from Frank Warren to land the Championship, which will headline a live Sky Sports event.
The Hennessy Sports boxer, who has already won the British belt out-right after making three title defences, has been recovering from surgery on his right knee which has prevented him from fighting since March.
“Carl has wanted to fight Reid for a long time and this is a fight that a lot of British fight fans want to see, so it’s great that it is finally happening,” said Hennessy. “I’m delighted to be able to bring it to his home city of Nottingham, where we expect another big crowd.
“It is a chance for Carl to show what he can do against a former world champion before going on to fight for a world title next year. The size of the bids today is a testament to his status as a rapidly developing marquee name and star of world boxing.”
WBC #1 Froch is understandably delighted that years of talk are finally over.
“I’ve seen what Reid has been saying in the press,” he said. “Now he’s got a problem; he has to come good on his words and back it all up. Instead he’s getting knocked out like he’s never been knocked out before and in my home City.”
