Sparring’s Over, ‘Phat’ Pat’s Ready To Take Toms Title on 23rd July

‘PHAT’ PAT MCALEESE Vs RYAN TOMS

BBBofC Southern Area Light Middleweight Title
Wembley Arena, Saturday 23rd July 2011

London – Thursday, 14th July 2011

With just over a week to go before the biggest fight of career to date Light Middleweight prospect ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese has more or less completed his preparations with a full on ten round sparring session at the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, London.

McAleese, who has just the single loss on his fourteen fight record, has left nothing to chance ahead of his showdown with current Southern Area Champion Ryan Toms, as support to  the highly anticipated British and Commonwealth Heavyweight title clash between Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury at Wembley Arena on Saturday, 23rd July.

Pat’s manager, Johnny Eames, called upon in-house fighters Billy Joe Saunders, Amro Ezzat, Eddie Corcoran and Freddie Turner, as well as former amateur star turned coach Tony Cesay, to ensure that the Newmarket man was ready for tough southpaw Toms.

Following a cracking ten rounds of sparring, against aforementioned Amro Ezzat, Eddie Corcoran and Tony Cesay, a smiling Johnny Eames said, “Brian O’Shaughnessy is looking after Pat’s preparation for this fight and as Pat said the other day I’m just overseeing things this time.

There’s been a big, big improvement in Pat’s movement and technique. His just completed his second ten rounds with three different fighters, all southpaws, and looked really good in doing it.

I’d like to think that come Saturday 23rd July Pat gets his hand raised up against Ryan Toms.

He’s a tricky southpaw who’s beaten one our boys twice, but I’m pretty certain that Pat’ll pull one back for the TRAD TKO Gym and get our second Southern Area champion of the season on the board and get the gym back on the Championship road.”

Pat’s coach Brian O’Shaughnessy then expanded on Johnny’s comments saying  “Everything’s been going fine really. Done ten rounds today, his movement is wicked, his footwork is wicked, everything is going to plan.

We’ve had great sparring here at the TRAD TKO, there’s always plenty of good sparring with house fighters here and we’ve had quite a few of them working with us.

We’ve had Billy Joe (Saunders), Amro (Ezzat), Eddie (Corcoran), Tony (Cesay) and Freddie (Turner) and most of them are southpaw stance as well and those that aren’t  took on the southpaw stance, which we are getting used to because of his opponent, it’s all good.

His weight’s well, he’s looking good in the ring, he’s doing all the work he needs to be doing, he’s listening well so it’s all going well.”

Final word on training has to go to the man of the moment himself, ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese, “Yeah training’s gone really well. Done ten rounds sparring today, felt comfortable all the way through and the fitness is there.

Next week just going to do some sharpening up and getting my energy and stamina spot on.

I’m full of energy now, so it’ll be an easy week next week and then I’ll be fit and ready to go on the 23rd.”

Pat McAleese versus Ryan Toms, for the Southern Area Light Middleweight title, is a feature fight on the undercard of Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury’s British and Commonwealth Heavyweight title clash at the Wembley Arena on Saturday 23rd July 2011.

Tickets priced £40, £50 and £150 are available from the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA or call Pat McAleese on 07852 980593

Boxing returns on Channel 5 Al Bernstein calling ‘The Big Brawl’ action July 23

Posted on | July 14, 2011 | No Comments

HOBOKEN, N.J. (July 14, 2011) – Boxing’s back on terrestrial television in the United Kingdom, starting July 23 with the worldwide broadcast of “The Big Brawl” event, which  will be anchored by award-winning boxing announcer Al Bernstein, Channel 5 and promoter Hennessy Sports announced today.

British and Commonwealth heavyweight Champion Dereck “Del Boy” Chisora (14-0, 9 KOs) puts his belts on the line Saturday night, July 23 against undefeated challenger Tyson Fury (14-0, 10 KOs) in the 12-round main event at Wembley Arena in London.

“The Big Brawl” will air live in the UK on Channel 5, the UK’s premier terrestrial network. “Boxing is a new venture for Channel Five and we want to create the very best impression,” said Mark Sharman, Executive Producer, S3 Media Ltd. “Fury v Chisora is a great match-up between two unbeaten heavyweights with world title aspirations, so we want a world-class expert to call the fight. They don’t come any bigger than Al Bernstein and I know the viewers will enjoy the benefits of his insight and expertise.”

Sports fans in United States will also be able to watch the “The Big Brawl” event on PPV,  distributed in the U.S. by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 3 PM/ET – 12 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, and Avail-TVN, for a suggested retail price of only $24.95. (Check with your PPV provider for same day replay times.) The telecast is also available in Canada to all Super Channel network subscribers.

Bernstein, a highly respected boxing authority for more than three decades, will join blow-by-blow announcer Mark Pougatch at ringside for “The Big Brawl” call. He was a boxing analyst for ESPN from 1980 to 2003, covered boxing for NBC during the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, and has been a popular boxing announcer since 2003 for Showtime Championship Boxing.

“”While this fight certainly resonates for British boxing fans,” Bernstein commented, “it now has wider implications and interest. The winner has an excellent chance of fighting for the heavyweight title. But, that aside, perhaps the most salient part of this match is that it will very likely be an exciting shootout – something we don’t often see in the heavyweight division. A lot is at stake and the styles of these two fighters should make it an entertaining match.”

The headliner showcases a pair of undefeated heavyweights, sporting nearly identical professional records, fighting in hopes of rising from prospect to contender, especially with world title shot implications for the winner of this clash to settle it all.

Zimbabwe-native Chisora (14-0, 9 KOs), rated No. 12 by the World Boxing Organization, fights out of London. He has twice had scheduled World Boxing Organization (“WBO”) title fights cancelled against champion Wladimir Klitschko, who will be at ringside for “The Big Brawl.” “Del Boy” has twice stopped Sam Sexton, winner of “The Prizefighter Heavyweight Tournament,” as well as Mike Tyson-conqueror Danny Williams.

Fury is a 6’ 9” 260-pound Irishman born in Manchester and lives in Cheshire, England. His rapidly growing fan-base is spreading across the Atlantic to America. Named after “Iron” Mike Tyson, the World Boxing Council’s No 21-rated Fury is the cousin of world middleweight contender Andy Lee. In his last action this past February, the mammoth 261-pound Fury knocked out previously unbeaten Narcelo Luiz Nascimento (13-0) in the fifth round. Other notable United Kingdom heavyweights defeated by Tyson include John McDermott and Scott Belshaw. Fury, only 22, has dedicated his fight against Chisora to the memory of former world heavyweight title challenger and European champion, Sir Henry Cooper.

The 12-round co-feature showcases British Boxing Board of Control (“BBB of C”) Light Welterweight Champion Ashley “Treasure”Theophane in his first title defense against Welsh champion Jason “The Power” Cook.

Theophane (29-4-1, 7 KOs), rated No. 14 by the International Boxing Federation, captured the BBB of C light welterweight championship in his last fight by winning a unanimous 12-round decision against Lenny Daws (21-1-2) this past February in London. Ashley’s most significant victories to date have been versus Delvin Rodriguez (DEC10) and former world champion DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (DEC8).

The 5’ 9” Cook (28-3-1, 14 KOs), a former International Boxing Organization and European lightweight champion, has lost only three times in 32 pro fights, the last in 2009 to former World Boxing Association champion Gavin Rees by three-round decision in the semi-finals of “Prizefighter” tournament.

The full PPV card will soon be announced. All fights and fighters subject to change.

How to Accept MMA Sponsorship Donations.

We added a new feature to MMA Recruiter that allows our members to accept sponsorship donations directly through their profiles. The great thing about this feature is, now ANYONE can sponsor you. This means companies, friends, family, fans or anyone else that would like to send you money, can. No longer do you have to be reliant on managers or companies for sponsorship money.

It is easy to do, just refer potential sponsors to your MMA Recruiter profile page. The potential sponsor can click on your donation button and send you sponsorship funds. The best part is, you keep 100% of the money, less any Paypal fees.

Getting Started

This explains how to accept MMA sponsorship donations directly through your MMA Recruiter profile. The first thing you will need to do is add your Paypal email address to your account settings. Once your Paypal email address is added and saved in your account settings, your sponsorship donation button is now ready to accept sponsorship funds.

Updating Your Profile

Once you have added your Paypal email address to your profile, you will need to update your profile information. Your profile should be used like a professional resume. About Sponsors

Currently there are more fighters than sponsors in the mixed martial arts industry. A majority of MMA fighters are under the impression that once they start training, money and sponsors will automatically begin pouring in. This is the furthest thing from the truth. If you are an amateur MMA fighter with no fights and limited training, it is extremely tough to find sponsors. It is important that you make yourself and profile stand out above all the other fighters in the industry. It is very important for up-and-coming fighters to be their own best promoter when getting started in MMA.

Sponsors want to get the most bang for their buck when sponsoring a fighter and this generally means exposure. Sponsors tend to lean towards fighters that can get them national exposure. Big named national companies generally do not sponsor amateur fighters, fighting at a small local show.

This is where you need to get creative and think outside of the box. If you are fighting at a local show, go after local companies in your area that can benefit from the exposure or local residents that want to extend their support. This could be anyone from a local restaurant to your neighbor. Many business owners are fans of the sport and could uses some extra advertising.

Promoting Your Profile

Next you will need to start promoting your MMA Recruiter profile link. By promoting your MMA Recruiter profile link, this sends your referrals to your profile page. MMA is still a growing sport and you MUST be proactive when trying to find sponsors.

Create a professional email about yourself, include your MMA Recruiter profile link in it and start emailing/messaging to as many companies as possible. Your email should contain what you can offer the potential sponsor and how they will benefit by sponsoring you. With a downed economy, business owners are going to be weighing their advertising options. You need to explain how sponsoring you as a fighter can benefit their company.

It is a numbers game. The more potential sponsors you contact, the greater your chances are of finding sponsorship. Set a goal to email, message, or call a certain amount of potential sponsors per day. If you can, get your spouse, friends or family members to help.
