Amateur Boxer William Cayzer Interview

This Saturday William Cayzer’s childhood dream will come true, as the eighteen year old from Eltham in South London is set to make his professional debut at the Olivia Goodwin Main Events promoted ‘Search & Destroy’ event at York Hall in London on June 4th.

An outstanding amateur, young William built an enviable reputation as a future prospect following his beating two of London’s top young stars, George Carman, who is now signed with promoter Frank Warren, and TKO Boxing Gym’s Brett O’Callaghan – who also features on the bill this Saturday.

William’s coach Steve Barrett has gone on record stating that William is not just one of London’s best new prospects but is also a certain future British Champion. High praise indeed coming from such a renowned and respected trainer as Steve, who is the Father and coach of former English Super Featherweight Champion and current International Masters Lightweight Champion Ryan Barrett, who headlines the Search & Destroy event.

Earlier today William took a little time to talk about his upcoming professional debut, “I believe it’s going to go all right. I’m just going to go out there and do what I do and hopefully I’ll bang him out.

As an amateur I always used to go out there and put on a good show. I was always a pro trapped in an amateurs body so yeah I’ve always been like a pro fighter. Every competition I’d gone in for I’d usually come out winning, sometimes second best but usually winning.

Since about the age of fourteen my style has been more suitable to the pros. It’s nonsense the amateur game these days, if your face don’t fit then you aint going nowhere. It’s more who you know than what you know.

I’m not a hundred percent who I’ll be fighting yet, there’s a list of fighters and we’re just waiting to have a little pick on who the opponent will be. I’m not fussed really, I don’t mind who it is, I’m going to win.”

William Cayzer versus Matt Seawright will be part of the fifteen bout undercard supporting the Ryan Barrett – Geoffrey Munika International Masters lightweight Title fight at the Olivia Goodwin Main Events promoted ‘Search & Destroy’ event at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 4th June 2011.

Carl Froch Workout Photos And Quotes From New York City

WBC super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch participated in a brisk 30-minute media workout and then met with reporters for a half-hour Tuesday at Mendez Boxing Gym in New York City.

This Saturday, June 4, Froch (27-1, 20 KOs) will defend against former world champion  Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KOs) in a Super Six World Boxing Classic Semifinal live on SHOWTIME^® (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from Adrian Phillips Ballroom at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.

The Froch-Johnson 12-round bout will be preceded on the telecast by a scheduled 10-rounder from Denmark between ex-world champion Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32 KOs) and world-ranked Mehdi Bouadla (23-3, 11 KOs) that will be shown on same-day delay.

“Rachael (Cordingley) texted me that our son, Rocco, is walking. He took his first steps and I missed it. And I’m going to take that out on Johnson,” said a fit and confident Froch, who boasted Tuesday about being only two pounds over the 168-pound limit after a big breakfast and just eating lunch. “Johnson is perfect for me. He’s made for me. He’ll be right there, right in front of me.

“The winner of this fight is going to the Final of the best boxing tournament in the world, the Super Six World Boxing Classic. And the winner is going to be me. I heard Johnson’s team talking about an easy fight. They can think what they want. I’m not concerned with that rubbish.”

 

Kayode Finishing up ‘Best Training Camp Ever’

According to manager Steve Feder, cruiserweight powerhouse Lateef “Power” Kayode(16-0, 14 KOs) is finishing up his best  training camp ever in preparation for his nationally televised battle with Rhode Island contender Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey (20-2, 14 KOs).

 

Kayode and Godfrey will meet on June 10 in the 10-round main event at Chumash Resort Casino in Santa Ynez, California, and live on Showtime’s popular series ShoBox: The New Generation at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

 

“This training camp was our best to date,” said Feder.  “In addition to our six days a week at Wild Card Boxing, we were able to work with Heavyweight Chris Arreola for two weeks in Riverside. He taught us a lot about dealing with and applying pressure. We also worked again with strength and conditioning coach Mike Vale and we added Juan Ruiz Bernabe to work specifically on short bursts and balance for speed work.”

 

Feder says trainer Freddie Roach has made some adjustments in Kayode’s style that will make Godfrey easy pickings for the 27-year-old from Lagos, Nigeria… a perfect return from what some thought was a disappointing performance in his last fight.

 

“The last fight was good for us because Lateef now knows that from here on, he will have to hunt his opponents down to get them to trade. 14 fighters who traded with Lateef ended up on the canvas. We see this fight as perfect for us coming off the Nick Iannuzzi fight. Iannuzzi came with a game plan to punch and run and go the distance without taking any chances of going toe-to-toe and we expect Godfrey to rely on a similar tactic. Lateef has to get used to this.”

Team Kayode also doesn’t hesitate to admit the big picture, as they see it.

 

“Since turning pro in August of 2008, it’s been a journey with one goal in mind. Lateef wants to be the world champion. End of story. Then, once he’s obtained that coveted title, at some point we will turn heavyweight and do it all over again. He ultimately wants to be heavyweight champion. After his cruiser campaign is totally satisfied, we’ll take the natural steps.”

It wouldn’t have been considered strange if Kayode had taken a few easier fights to get his KO MOJO back, but Feder says that wasn’t even a consideration.

 

“We had a slew of opponents we could have taken on as tune-ups before picking back up, but we saw nothing that dictated us to take a step back. We discussed the plan with our matchmaker John Beninati and promoter, Gary Shaw and we all decided that we have the best cruiserweight prospect in the world and taking on anyone less than a Matt Godfrey would be a step back.”
