Yassine El Maachi – Watch Me, I’m Going To Be So Good In Prizefighter
Posted on | May 24, 2011 | No Comments
For the past year or so International Masters Light Middleweight Champion Yassine El Maachi has stated his dream is to compete in the top rated Matchroom Sports promoted Prizefighter series.
El Maachi, and his promoter Steve Goodwin, believe the tournament format would be the perfect platform to showcase El Maachi, and his sensational all action fighting style, as he strives to break into the lucrative World Championship circuit.
It now seems that El Maachi gets his wish, as he was recently named as one of the eight contestants for the Sky Sports televised Prizefighter – Welterweights II, which takes place at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Tuesday 7th June 2011.
El Maachi, who is currently ranked #46 in the World, joins a star studded line up that includes former WBC World Light Welterweight Champion Junior Witter, former IBO World Light Welterweight Champion Colin Lynes, former British Welterweight Champion Kevin McIntyre, former Southern Area Light Welterweight Champion and WBF International title challenger Peter McDonagh, former International Masters Welterweight Challenger Nathan Graham as well as unbeaten young prospects John Wayne Hibbert and Bobby Gladman.
Earlier today El Maachi spoke briefly of his upcoming appearance on Prizefighter – Welterweights II, “I would love to get Junior Witter the first fight, Colin Lynes the second fight then the third fight would be nice and easy for me. That’s my plan, me and my trainer Don Charles and Kevin Murray, that’s what we are trying to do.
Hopefully if it goes like this I would love to but it doesn’t matter which way the draw goes I’m ready for it. I’m coming there with two hands, two legs and like a Tiger, or more like a Cheetah as I’m so fast, good things, oh God watch me, I’m going to be so good in the Prizefighter.”
Prizefighter – Welterweights II, featuring Yassine El Maachi, Colin Lynes, Junior Witter, Kevin McIntyre, John Wayne Hibbert, Bobby Gladman, Nathan Graham and Peter McDonagh, takes place at York Hall, Bethnal Green in London on Tuesday 7th June 2011.
Tickets, priced £35 (Unreserved), £60 (Ringside), and £100 (VIP) are available now at www.tkoboxoffice.com or in person at the TKO Boxing Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA or call 07960 850645

Harley Enthusiast Steve Chamberland: I’ll Hand out 50 Legs in 50 Weeks
Posted on | May 23, 2011 | No Comments
(Tampa, FL) – Steve Chamberland knows first hand that the size of a motorcycle enthusiast’s heart is as big as the open country on which he rides. Now he’s going to prove it with his own actions.
Professional wrestler, gold medal-winning shot putter and Harley-Davidson maven Chamberland is putting a call out to those who need prosthetic legs: Be part of my “50 Legs in 50 Weeks” project.
Chamberland lost his own leg in a horrific motorcycle accident, but that hasn’t stopped him from enjoying the thrill of riding, nor has it lessened his enthusiasm for big bikes like a Harley.
“I can’t imagine my life without motorcycles, despite what happened to me,” Chamberland says. “My life on the open road has given me way more enjoyment than sadness.”
All that passion and love for motorcycles is being channeled into Chamberland’s project, where he wants to provide 50 prosthetic legs to those in need, in 50 weeks. He plans on touring the country, learning of people’s stories.
Once selected by Chamberland, 50 lucky individuals will have prosthetic legs designed and built by his staff and him.
Chamberland also plans to videotape each of the 50 recipients as they go through the process to receive their new legs. He also wouldn’t rule out turning the project into a Reality TV series.
“This isn’t a stunt-it’s a real way to help real people in need,” Chamberland says. “It’s also a way to bring awareness to the fact that people with prosthetics can lead prosperous, fulfilling lives.”
Chamberland says the search is on for sponsors to provide funding for the bus he and his staff will need to tour the country.

MELSON DONATES ENTIRE PURSE TO PENDING STEM CELL TRIAL
Posted on | May 23, 2011 | No Comments
For Immediate Release
New York, NY (May 23, 2011) – Unbeaten junior middleweight Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson kept his perfect record alive by stopping veteran Hector Rivera in 44 seconds last Thursday evening at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. After briefly getting a gage for his foe, Melson unloaded a solid straight left hand which dropped Rivera hard to the canvas. Rivera attempted to get up, but was unable to continue.
“This is the first time I’ve knocked somebody out since the amateurs,” said Melson, who spoke to the capacity crowd after his impressive about his fight to help people with severe spinal cord injuries. “The fight ended much quicker than I anticipated.”
For the third time in as many fights, Melson donated his entire purse to Justadollarplease.org in support of a pending stem cell trial for spinal cord injuries. If the trial goes through successfully, the research could potentially change the lives for thousands of disabled Americans currently in wheelchairs.
In association with Justadollarplease.org, Melson recently started Team Fight to Walk, whose mission is to raise awareness within the boxing community about the importance of stem cell research for spinal cord injuries. Team Fight to Walk is comprised of Melson, IBF cruiserweight champion Steve “USS” Cunningham, title contender DeAndre “The Bull” Latimore, and prospects Sid “The Messenger” El Harrak, Denis “Da Momma’s Boy” Douglin, Vinny “The Lion” O’Brien and Delen “Sniper” Parsley.
Tax deductible donations can be made at Justadollarplease.org and information on Team Fight to Walk is available at Teamfighttowalk.com.
Melson’s next bout will be announced shortly.

Bilateral Amputee in Top 25 NCAA Moments: Wrestling Champ Nick Ackerman
Posted on | May 23, 2011 | No Comments
The 2001 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship was determined in the last seven seconds. After dominating the first two periods of the match, leading nine to two, Nick was getting tired. Knowing it was time to “take his shot,” the 174-lb. wrestler grabbed his opponent’s leg and held on, bringing him down and claiming the title by a 13-11 score. The packed audience rose to their feet and applauded for over two minutes as Ackerman lay on the mat and savored the moment. Ackerman, also voted the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler, finished his season with 38 wins and only four losses.
