Mitchell Balker Added To Unleash The Fury At York Hall 5th March

Exciting London based Dutch Cruiserweight prospect Mitchell Balker is to make his third UK outing, against Doncaster’s John Anthony, at the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘UNLEASH THE FURY’ event at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, on Saturday 5th March 2011.

Balker’s performance on his last outing, against Nick Okoth at the excellent Graham Earl promoted ‘Capital Punishment’ Event in January, was pure quality.

Balker’s savvy ring craft proved to be too much for ‘The Ox’. Right from the start Balker controlled the fight utilising crisp jabs to keep Okoth on the defensive before moving in to land solid jabs and right hands before stepping aside to thwart any return salvos from the heavy handed Okoth.

Round two see Okoth charge from his corner before swinging wildly in a effort to gain a semblance of control. Balker kept calm and stayed out of trouble by moving out of range and occasionally letting rip with clinical lefts and rights that slowed the advancing Okoth considerably.

Round three see Balker step things up a notch and just plain out box Okoth with crisp jabs and wicked combinations. Each time Okoth advanced Balker would let him back him onto the ropes before spinning Okoth and launching a controlled attack of his own. Often to the head but sometimes with a peach of a three punch combination that ended with a solid left to the body.

Round four was more of the same and it was no surprise that come the final bell the referee declared Balker the winner by a clear 40-36 points margin.

Following a training session at the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, London, Balker spoke of the bout with Nick Okoth as well as the upcoming fight with John Anthony, “As always I am in good shape, I’m always in the gym . I’m ready for it, I’m ready to go.

I enjoyed my last fight against Nick Okoth. I had good training, I did what I was supposed to do. Good Boxing, crisp good jab and yeah I did a good job.

On the 5th what you are going to see is Mitchell Balker in top condition and I’m ready to go. If it goes longer rounds, then I’m ready to go longer rounds. If it’s an early stoppage, then it’s an early stoppage. I’m just happy to fight again.

I’ve been sparring with good guys. I’ve been sparring with Manny (Emmanuel Oshunrinde), our very own Manny Pacquiao, I’ve sparred with Leon (Southern Area Cruiserweight Champ Leon ‘Solid’ Williams), I sparred today with a Heavyweight, I sparred with Caine (Caine Brodie). Caine will be on the same show.

TKO is a very good gym, very good gym for sparring. I spar three or four times in a week. You’ve got terrific sparring here. TKO gym is a good gym for sparring.

Let’s just make a good show of it. Lets have Caine win and me win. It’s a good thing, a good thing.”

Johnny Eames, Balker’s manager and co-trainer, then added, “Mitchell is in action again on the 5th March against John Anthony.

We’re really pleased for Mitchell, our TKO Box Office site has enabled us to give Mitchell a couple of fights as the house fighter which I think all prospects, which I consider Mitchell a prospect, deserve to be the house fighters.

I’m pretty certain from his attitude and his application and his training that he’ll put in another good performance. You know and then if myself and Rio can keep him in the house corner, through our TKO Box Office site, then so be it and I’m sure he’ll prosper from it.

Yeah, I’m pretty certain it’ll be another good win for Mitchell.”

Mitchell Balker versus John Anthony will be main support to Toks Owoh versus Billy Boyle at the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘Unleash The Fury’ event at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 5th March 2011.

The Unleash The Fury undercard features some of London’s best upcoming talents and including Balker’s Ultrachem TKO Gym mate ‘Dynamo’ Daryl Setterfield against Birmingham’s Andrew ‘Paddy’ Patterson.

Minster. Kent Light Heavyweight Dan ‘Woody’ Woodgate gets his third outing against Retford’s Lee Nicholson and Waltham Abbey Light Welterweight Phil Gill looks to take his unbeaten run to ten against Aysham’s Scott Moises.

Luton Lightweight Michael ‘Chunky’ Devine makes his welcome return to the ring, following his coveted ‘0’ to Mark ‘The Flash’ Alexander last year, and will be looking to get back to winning ways against the highly experienced Daniel Thorpe.

Biggleswade Light Middleweight Jamie Boness will be looking to extend his unbeaten record against Guildford’s Louis Byrne and Woolwich Super Middleweight Eder Kurti faces Welsh banger Jamie Ambler.

Unbeaten, in twelve, Hackney Middleweight Wayne Alwan-Arab is set to face Tooting based Bulgarian Danny Dontchev.

Another of Balker’s Ultrachem TKO gym mates, Caine Brodie, also features on the card against a yet to be named opponent.

Making their pro debuts at ‘Unleash The Fury’ are Harlesden Lightweight Met Sekiraqa, against Robin Deakin and former World Kick Boxing Champion, Llir Canolli, from Cosavo, against a yet to be named opponent.

Exciting Amateur Boxing Show This Saturday Night February 19, 2011

Our All Master Boxing Show Is Saturday Night February 19, 2011.

This show is for Master Boxers only. There will be both male and female bouts.

All our bouts are sanctioned by USABoxingMetro.

The ticket price is $20 per person. Children 6 and under are not charged. All gym members pay $15 per person.

FightZone TV to Air AOF 11 “Fusion” From the Fl State Fair

The 107th Florida State Fair in Tampa, FL is underway and headed for record crowds of over 500,000 over the 13 day event. Adding to that number will be the historic, first ever inclusion of an MMA Expo/Event on Friday and Saturday, February 18th and 19th. And FightZone TV will be there to capture all the action for future national TV broadcast airing.

“Fusion” will be the 11th major MMA event held by Art Of Fighting in Florida. Promoter, Nathan Smith, commenting on the growing mainstream popularity of the sport says “Art of Fighting has stayed true to its Florida roots. We wanted to bring something to MMA fans in Florida that will help grow the sport in our state and reward loyal fans with a great experience.

Continues Smith, “Fair Authorities were looking for a way to add more young adults to their demographics and what better way to do that then hosting an event of this magnitude. This Expo is going to be a lot of fun for kids and maybe even more fun for adults who have been following the sport for years.”

The Expo, hosted by FightZone TV’s Jay Adams, will features an all day Saturday MMAC Grappling Tournament, live demonstrations, celebrities, seminars, MMA merchandise, autograph sessions, Game Playing Video Van, Weigh Ins and more. HARD HITTIN’ PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCES DATE FOR “THE WILLIE PEP CLASSIC” PRO BOXING EVENT IN HARTFORD, CT.

MIDDLETOWN – “Hard Hittin’ Promotion” president Jacqueline Cartelli announced today that “The Willie Pep Boxing Classic” professional boxing show will be held at the Connecticut Convention Center on April 9th, 2011. “

I am happy to announce the first of hopefully many pro boxing shows that will showcase Connecticut based boxers,” Cartelli said. “What better ‘kick-off’ than a show to honor the best fighter (Pep) to ever come out of Connecticut.”

In an effort to bring boxing back to Hartford on a consistent basis, Hard Hittin’ promotions plans to put on a show every three months, reminiscent of the old time “Friday Night Fights” of yesteryear.

The Main Event of the evening will feature popular Hebron heavyweight Tony Grano, on the comeback trail following an upset TKO defeat to Nicolay Firtha in his last bout. Before that, Grano scored an upset of his own when he stopped previously unbeaten Travis Kaufmann in the third round on a Sho-Box televised card.

The Co-Feature on April 9th will feature a sure-fire WAR between two of Hartford’s most well known veterans, former IBF world lightweight title challenger Israel “Pito” Cardona (36-10) and Luis Maysonet (32-11). Maysonet has faced off with the likes of Thomas Daamgard, Ivan Robinson, Shannon Taylor and Hector “Macho” Camacho.

Cardona defeated Ivan Robinson via third round technical knockout and lost in his only title try against Paul Spadafora in 1999.

The featured undercard match will pit extremely popular unbeaten (5-0) up and coming super featherweight prospect Joey “Chip” Perez of East Hartford against former amateur star Charles Vanderveer of Brooklyn, New York. Perez is trained by former IBF world light heavyweight title challenger and 2009 Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame Inductee “Iceman” John Scully of nearby Windsor.

The April 9th card will showcase such local talent as featherweight prospect Danny Aquino (5-1) of Meriden, Connecticut’s undefeated (5-0-1) welterweight Dominic DeSanto, Hartford (via Yonkers NY) lightweight Chazz McDowell and New Haven’s unbeaten (5-0) junior lightweight Luis Rosa Jr.

Also featured on the undercard is Middletown’s 1-0 light heavyweight Doug Cartelli, 180 pounds.

Willie Pickard, 154, of Middletown will be making his pro debut.

Hall of Famer Pep, born Gugliermo Papaleo in Middletown, Connecticut in 1922, was a two-time world featherweight world champion who retired in 1966 after a twenty-six year professional career that saw him compile an amazing record of 229 wins against only 11 defeats and one draw. He had 65 knockouts to his credit.

Pep was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York 1990. He passed away on November 23, 2006 at the age of 84.

Luke Campbell: Supreme Performance Secures Gold In Hungary

This past weekend European Gold Medalist Luke Campbell’s pre-Olympics campaign got off to a flying start, at the first major amateur tournament of 2011 the Bocskai Memorial Tournament in Debrecen, Hungary.

Luke, who in 2009 won the European Gold on his first attempt , beat local favourite Krisztian Nagy 8-5 to secure his first title of the year, as well as to further assert his position as favourite for the Team GB 56kg selection at the London 2012 Olympics.

The end of the first round see Luke 1-0 down, despite landing many excellent shots. Not to be deterred Luke turned on the style and took the fight to the Hungarian and what ensued can only be described as a boxing masterclass by Luke, to not only pull the scoring level but by scoring with four blows took a single point lead into the final round.

Luke’s boxing masterclass continued in the final round, where again he picked up four points, to secure the win by a tidy 8-5 margin.

Speaking on the phone earlier today Luke spoke of the tournament and his winning performance. “Yeah it was good to get four fights in four day. I had four fights on the trot, I’ve never done that before. It was good, I felt good in each fight to be honest with you and I could have gone a fifth time.

There’s no problem with my fitness, this proved it as I could have easily fought for a fifth time, which is good news to know I could do that, especially against four world class opponents.

I beat the first kid 7-1 and I put him down on the canvas as well. I beat the second kid 7-1 as well and then I beat the Romanian in the third fight who beat the Russian in the fight before me so that was good.

The final was 8-5, the five scoring was obviously because he’s the Hungarian Golden Boy. They wanted him to win but I fought better and won the fight.

Every outing for Great Britain, since my hand injury, I have won which is good as they were tough tournaments. I’ve put in excellent performances and bought home the Gold each time.

I’m really pleased, there’s no problems with my hand now, there’s no problems full stop. My confidence is growing all the time. Obviously winning these tough tournaments my confidence is growing all the time. Hopefully I’ll keep the momentum going, make further improvements and get better and better. I’ll keep working my way up.

I’m working really well with the coaches and the team at the minute. I seem to be progressing all the time and my boxing is getting better.”
