Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng Ready For Lee Noble Showdown On Feb 5th

Sensational unbeaten Light Middleweight prospect Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng is set for the toughest test of his fledgling career, when he comes up against the British Masters Light Middleweight Champion Lee ‘Lightning’ Noble in a non-championship contest, on the undercard at the Frank Maloney promoted Commonwealth Super Bantamweight title showdown between Jamie Arthur and Jason Booth at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday 5th February, 2011.

Erick is proving to be one of the most talented crowd pleasing young
fighters to emerge on the London scene over the past few years. Currently unbeaten in five outings, two by way of stoppage, Erick has had some magnificent victories, including beating Curtis Valentine in a fight dubbed “Battle of the Unbeaten’, but by far his most impressive
performance to date was his total domination, and fourth round stoppage, of Alex Spitko at the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘It’s Personal’ event back in September.

Lee Noble is without doubt a step up in class for young Erick, as Lee is
also the former British Masters Middleweight title holder as well as
current British Masters Light Middleweight Champ. Lee’s last two fights
have been championship bouts, back in November he faced Brian Rose for the vacant English title, which he lost on points.

Prior to that he beat Erick’s Ultrachem TKO Gym mate ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese, by a ninth round knockout to lift the British Masters crown. Ringside that night was none other than Erick, who earlier in the night had stopped Alex Spitko.

Following a training session, at the Ultrachem TKO Gym, under the watchful eyes of manager-trainer Brian Lawrence a confident Erick took a little time to talk about the upcoming showdown, “Yeah it’s Lee Noble. Pat’s asked me to do him a favour, so I’m gonna take care of business.

I’ve watched him fight, so I’m just gonna box him, make him eat the jab
and then take him out.

Everyone will see how good I am. I’m a World Champion in the making. As I say I am already World Champion, just they don’t know it yet.

My taking this fight everyone can see what type of fighter I am. He’s a
good fighter, a champion, I’m just stepping up the ladder. You’ve got to
fight these kind of guys if I’m gonna make my way to the top, which I am.

You know what, It’s gonna be a win if it comes by KO it’s all good but if
it goes all the way and it’s by points so it goes. It’s gonna be a win.

It’s my first six rounder, I’m gonna pace myself, look good and please my
supporters as it’s gonna be a win either way.”

A smiling Brian Lawrence then added, “Yeah Lee’s more far more experienced and is more durable than the original opponents. It’s gonna be a tougher fight but I still expect Erick to deal with him.

You’ve got to beat these kind of guys if you want to go to the top.

I would expect Erick to stop him, but if it does go to points we’ll settle
for that as we expect the win either way.

It’s gonna be an exciting fight.”

Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng, against Lee ‘Lightning’ Noble will feature on
the undercard of the Frank Maloney promoted Jamie Arthur vs Jason Booth Commonwealth Super Bantamweight title clash at the Brentwood Leisure Centre, Brentwood, Essex on Saturday 5th February 2011.

Also featured on the card will be a six round Super Flyweight contest
which pits former British Bantamweight Champion Martin Power against the unbeaten Ashley Sexton.

Commonwealth Gold and Olympic Bronze medalist Heavyweight David Price will be in action against South Africa’s Osborne ‘Big Daddy’ Machimana. In another Heavyweight bout Tom Dallas also gets African opposition, this time in Zambia’s Francis ‘Galagata’ Zulu.

Southern Area Cruiserweight Champ Leon ‘Solid’ Williams gets to take on
the mega tough Blackpool based Slovakian Richard Turba in a
non-championship bout.

Belfast Super Flyweight Jamie Conlan gets to pit his unbeaten, in five,
record against Exeter’s Lewis Browning.

Malmesbury, Wiltshire’s Welterweight Joe Hughes gets his second outing
against the highly experienced Johnny Greaves from East Ham.

Canadian Mixed Martial Arts will reach heights unseen in years when on April 9th, 2011, Ringside MMA presents RINGSIDE 10 at the Bell Centre. Over the last few weeks, Ringside made international headlines with rumours that the organization was in contract negotiations with former UFC middleweight title challenger, Patrick “The Predator” Côté (13-7-0). Ringside MMA is proud to announce that Côté will be headlining this event, facing “The Ultimate Fighter Season 3 semi-finalist and UFC veteran, Kalib Starnes (12-5-1). No less than 3 championship matches will be showcased, each in the featherweight, welterweight, and light-heavyweight divisions, preceding the main event.

In 2004, Patrick Côté became the 2nd Québec native to make the jump to the UFC in 2004, and almost walked away a champion after giving the legendary Tito Ortiz almost more than he could handle. From there, Côté made his mark in the UFC, first by appearing in “The Ultimate Fighter 4 – The Comeback” in 2006. He then went on a 4 fight win streak by disposing of Scott Smith, Kendall Grove, Drew McFedries, and Ricardo Almeida in order to earn his shot at the undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva. Following a year and a half hiatus to recuperate from an injury suffered during his title shot, Côté made his return last April but lost to Alan Belcher and then Tom Lawlor. As a free agent, Patrick Côté sifted through numerous offers, but decided that Ringside MMA would be the best place for him to begin his return to the top of the rankings. His opponent, Kalib Starnes, sees his fight against Patrick Côté as his chance for redemption. Kalib Starnes is a submission expert who wants to put the Québec native to the test, and right in Cô’tés hometown no less, and prove to everyone that he is not the one to choke under pressure. The stakes are high for two of Canada’s best 185 pound fighters in this matchup.

Also on the card this night, Steve “The Boss” Bossé (8-1-0) returns to the venue where he made his professional MMA debut. The light-heavyweight champion will be making the first defence of the Ringside belt he won in 2009, after briefly leaving to explore different challenges that had been offered to him. He responded to those challenges by defeating UFC veteran Marvin Eastman, as well as Mychal Clark, a veteran of Strikeforce and Bellator. Once a professional hockey enforcer, Bosse is now regarded as one of the best athletes in his division, but he now has to face Halifax native Roger “The Hulk” Hollett (11-3-0).

Chris “The Menace” Clements (8-4-0), who won the Ringside Welterweight title after an explosive KO over UFC veteran Jonathan Goulet last November, will be making his first title defence against undefeated Alex Garcia (6-0-0). Already a record holder for the fastest KO in MMA history (2 seconds) , Clements is feared for his extremely dangerous strikes. Meanwhile, his opponent Alex Garcia is a well-rounded highly regarded prodigy of the sport, and knows a win over Clements will earn him notice and respect on the international stage.

Several highly anticipated matches will also be on the card, including the return of the Featherweight champion Mitch Gagnon (6-1-0), who will defend his belt after a 6 month absence against the undisputed number one contender, the undefeated Rejean Groulx (5-0-0). Fans can also expect to see Mike Ricci, Derek Gauthier, Iraj Hadin and Jesse Ronson on the card, including a pioneer of female MMA in Quebec, Valerie Letourneau.

NEW YORK (Jan. 31, 2011) – Dan Henderson is one of the most recognizable and popular fighters in the world. He is the only fighter in the history of Mixed Martial Arts to simultaneously hold two world titles in two different weight classes with a major MMA promotion.

In an illustrious career, the legendary 40-year-old Henderson has won a total of four MMA world championships and fought and defeated a host of all-time greats, including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort. Before turning pro, Henderson was a two-time United States Olympic Games wrestler. There isn’t a lot that he hasn’t accomplished.

On Saturday, March 5, Henderson (26-8), of Temecula, Calif., will attempt to add another belt to his wardrobe when he challenges defending champion Rafael “Feijao’’ Cavalcante (10-2) of Brazil for the STRIKEFORCE World Light Heavyweight (205 pounds) Championship at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, live on SHOWTIME® (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

In the opening half of a STRIKEFORCE World Championship Doubleheader, Marloes “Rumina’’ Coenen (18-4) of the Netherlands will risk her lightweight title for a first time against No. 1 135-pound contender, Miesha “Takedown’’ Tate (11-2), of Tacoma, Wash.

American military hero Tim Kennedy (12-3) of Fort Bragg, N.C., will be opposed by Luke Rockhold (7-1) at middleweight (185 pounds) and undefeated Billy Evangelista (11-0) of Fresno, Calif., will take on Jorge Masvidal (20-6) of Miami, Fla., at lightweight (155 pounds) in other televised bouts on SHOWTIME.

The event, STRIKEFORCE’s first in the state of Ohio, will take place in conjunction with The Arnold Sports Festival, the nation’s largest health and fitness exposition founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

It will be the hard-hitting 6-foot-1 Henderson’s third start for STRIKEFORCE since he left the UFC on a three-fight winning streak to sign with the San Jose, Calif.-based promotion in December 2009.

Henderson secured the title shot in devastating fashion, destroying Brazilian Renato “Babalu” Sobral by 1:53, first-round knockout (punches) last Dec. 4 in St. Louis. It was the STRIKEFORCE 205-pound debut for Henderson, a former two-division PRIDE Fighting Championships belt-holder who will become the only fighter to compete for titles in STRIKEFORCE, PRIDE and UFC.

For Cavalcante, a powerful 6-foot, 30-year-old Brazilian referred to simply as “Feijao,” it will be his first defense of the 205-pound crown he captured with a third-round upset TKO (elbows) over previously undefeated “King Mo’’ Lawal last Aug. 21 in Houston.

The talented Feijao will enter the scheduled five-round match at the peak of his game. He has won three in a row and six out of his last seven. Feijao has never gone the distance as a pro and the furthest one of his bouts has gone came against King Mo.

Feijao has never been in with anybody who hits like Henderson, but the Brazilian fighter has been highly-touted as one of the next great superstars of the sport. With his fearsome submission capabilities and vastly improved kicking and punching, Feijao could indeed be something special — especially if he passes the class test against Hendo.

“Everybody knows about Dan Henderson and what he can do and how hard he hits,’’ said Feijao, a native of Ilha Solteira in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, who trains out of the famed Black House camp with, among others, the aforementioned Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida and Antonio Nogueira.

“This is going to be a very exciting fight. I worked very hard to get back to where I could fight for the title. Now that I have won it, I’ve been working even harder to keep it.’’

While fighting for PRIDE, Henderson was both the welterweight (185 pounds) and light heavyweight (205 pounds) champion. In his debut for STRIKEFORCE, at 185 pounds, the aggressive-minded veteran nearly knocked out Jake Shields during a dominant first round on April 17, 2010, in Nashville, before losing a close decision.

“I want to thank STRIKEFORCE for this opportunity to fight for the title,’’ said Henderson, a winner in four of his last five. “That last fight got me back on track. I’ll be ready for anything, but mostly I’m expecting a flat-our war.’’

Coenen, a product of Holland’s Golden Glory team, captured the STRIKEFORCE crown with an impressive third-round submission (armbar) over defending belt-holder Sarah Kaufman on Oct. 9, 2010. A strikingly attractive submission whiz, the talented, 5-foot-9, 29-year-old ousted Kaufman one fight after giving STRIKEFORCE 145-pound champ, the naturally bigger Cris Cyborg one of her toughest fights.

Tate, a winner of five in a row and 10 out of 11, earned her first five-round fight by winning twice during a single-night elimination tournament on STRIKEFORCE Challengers on Aug. 13, 2010, in Phoenix, Ariz., The 5-foot-6, 24-year-old outpointed Maiju Kujala and then Hitomi Akano to take the tourney and ascend to the top spot. It will be Tate’s fifth bout on SHOWTIME and her sixth start for STRIKEFORCE.

Kennedy is an American military hero who’s toured the Middle East multiple times, and earned the Army’s Bronze Medal Star medal for valor under fire. This will be the 5-foot-11, 31-year olds fifth start for STRIKEFORCE and his first since losing a close, hard-fought decision to “Jacare” Souza in a fight for the then-vacant STRIKEFORCE middleweight title last Aug. 21 on SHOWTIME. The disputed defeat ended a four-fight winning streak for Kennedy, who has split two fights against Jason “Mayhem’’ Miller.

The up-and-coming Rockhold is taking a step up in class, but the 6-foot-3, 26-year-old has won six in a row, all in the first round, including three straight on STRIKEFORCE Challengers. In his last start, he registered a 2:24 TKO over Paul Bradley on Feb. 26, 2010. A rising star in STRIKEFORCE’S talent-laden 185-pound division, Rockhold was scheduled to fight last Oct. 9, but withdrew after injuring a shoulder in training.

Like Tate and Rockhold, Evangelista is a veteran of the STRIKEFORCE Challengers series who is making his Saturday debut for STRIKEFORCE on SHOWTIME. In his last outing and first fight in nearly a year, the 5-foot-8, 29-year-old Muay Thai specialist won a unanimous decision over hard-trying Waachiim Spiritwolf in an extremely spirited affair last Oct. 22. That fight was contested at a catch weight of 165 pounds; Evangelista will be competing at his natural weight of 155 for this one.

Masvidal is an experienced seven-year pro who has been matched with some good ones across his career. In his last outing, he went the distance with world-ranked Paul “Semtex” Daley before losing a decision on Sept. 10, 2010. The 5-foot-10, 26-year-old member of America Top Team is unbeaten in his two fights for STRIKEFORCE.

When Jimmy Tibbs says that former IBO Light Welterweight World Champion Colin Lynes, whose next fight is on Saturday 12th February 2011 at Olympia in Liverpool, could campaign for a second world crown, this time at Welterweight, only a boxing philistine could possibly doubt the man’s words.

Jimmy has spent more than 50 years in boxing, he was a top-class amateur and professional boxer and has also been a manager and a promoter. However as a trainer Jimmy earned the reputation of being one of, if not, Britain’s finest.

Over the years Jimmy has prepared and guided such British Boxing luminaries as Nigel Benn, Chris Pyatt, Charlie Magri, Barry McGuigan, Steve Collins, Dennis Andries, Wayne Alexander, Lloyd Honeyghan, Alex Arthur and Frank Bruno to World Championship success, and many more to British, Commonwealth and European honours.

Currently Jimmy is coaching, in addition to the aforementioned Colin Lynes, some of the brightest upcoming young British fighters such as the Mitchell brothers, Kevin and Vinny, former Olympian Billy Joe Saunders, Freddie Turner, Akaash Bhatia and Billy Morgan at the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, London.

It was following a sparring session between Colin and Michael Grant at the TKO gym that Jimmy spoke about the future prospects of the former Light Welterweight World Champion, “Colin Lynes is fighting on the 12th February. He’s been with us for about six months now.

He’s the former British, European and IBO Light Welterweight World Champion. Because of weight problems he’s suffered a bit, so he’s decided to move up to Welterweight.

We’ve had him moving about with some good Middleweights, Light Middleweights and he’s as strong as an Ox.

Give him a couple of warm up fights and he’ll end up fighting for a Welterweight title, whether that’s the British title, Commonwealth title or European title, and he will win it because of the life he lives and the way he looks after himself. He’s always in condition, and that doesn’t mean to say that he’s training every day.

He looks after his body when he’s not training, and that’s what a lot of youngsters should learn in this game today.

They have one fight, two fights, they go away and come back rolypolys and all they’re doing is not training to get fight fit, they’re training to get the weight off. I’ve got a couple of fighters that should go to a clinic and see a doctor because they’re going to be in serious trouble in years to come.

Whereas Colin Lynes is 33 years of age, he’s had 41 fights and he’s not got a mark on him. He’s got the rhythm of a twenty year old because he looks after his body in and out the ring.

He’s got a spring in his step, he’s still got that, he makes people work, in and out, in and out all the time, he makes them move their body about. That’s because he looks after himself when he’s not boxing.

In my opinion Colin could still fight for another World title.”

Colin Lynes, against a yet to be named opponent, will be on the undercard of the Matchroom Sports promoted John Watson versus Anthony Crolla, for the vacant British Lightweight title, on Saturday 12th February 2011 at Olympia in Liverpool.
