Here’s where we are. Reviews were great, people who’ve seen it liked it, and those of you who worked on it, you know it just gets better from here. The bad news is, not enough people watched the pilot. If you’ll indulge us in a metaphor, we took a beating in Round One and we’re in for a fight. We all know Holt will keep punching for as long as he can, as will the studio and network.

People who watched the show, liked it. We just need to get more people to watch.

Robert Guerrero and Ringside Inc. Partner Up For 2011

Iowa City, Iowa named host city for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling

Iowa City, Iowa has been selected to host the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling.

The event will be held at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on the campus of the University of Iowa from April 21-22, 2012.

Iowa City was one of three finalist cities to make final presentations on their bid to a selection committee on January 12. The committee included USA Wrestling staff and athletes, as well as representatives from the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The other cities to make finalist presentations were Columbus, Ohio and Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Initially, seven cities bid to host the competition. Those cities which were not selected for finalist presentations were Greensboro, N.C., Hampton, Va., Oklahoma City, Okla. and Pontiac, Mich.

“We are unbelievably pleased and humbled with the response we received from cities wishing to host our most valuable event property,” said USA Wrestling Executive Director Rich Bender. “We would like to thank the leaders from all three finalist cities for their outstanding presentations. We hope that all of these cities continue to be involved with USA Wrestling and host wrestling events in years to come.”

The initial bid proposal for the event also included the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Weightlifting. Due to a scheduling conflict, USA Weightlifting could no longer hold Trials on the selected dates and stepped out of the bid process.

The event will feature competition in the three Olympic styles of the sport – men’s freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle. The competition will determine the U.S. athletes who will qualify to represent the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.

The local organizing committee is led by the University of Iowa Athletics and the Iowa City/Coralville Area CVB and includes leaders from the City of Iowa City, City of Coralville and City of North Liberty. Among those serving on the host committee are legendary collegiate and Olympic wrestlers Dan Gable, Tom Brands, Terry Brands, Lincoln McIlravy and Cornell College coach Mike Duroe.

“I believe this is a good decision for the future of wrestling at all levels. This will help increase the visibility of our sport. I see more growth for wrestling as a result. It gets me very excited,” said wrestling legend Dan Gable from the local organizing committee.

“The Iowa City local organizing committee was selected based upon their proven track record of hosting large and successful wrestling events, as well as a history of drawing strong fan support,” said Bender. ‘We are committed to working tirelessly with the organizing committee and the entire community to host the most successful U.S. Olympic Team Trials in our history.”

“This community is fired up to welcome our nation’s best to Carver Hawkeye Arena and will come together as they have so many times to produce a Trials that is remembered for years to come,” said Joshua Schamberger, President of the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau “Our entire community couldn’t be more excited by this news. We look forward to creating an athlete and fan experience that will carry on through London.”

Carver-Hawkeye Arena, which is located on the University of Iowa campus, serves as the home arena for Iowa’s wrestling team, as well as Iowa’s basketball and volleyball squads. The arena seats 15,000 for wrestling and is named after long-time wrestling supporter Roy J. Carver. The $47 million Carver-Hawkeye Arena – Addition and Renovation Project is underway to expand and upgrade facilities, and is scheduled for completion in time for the 2011-12 athletic year.

This is the first time that the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling has been hosted in Iowa since USA Wrestling has served as National Governing Body in 1984.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena hosted the NCAA Div. I Wrestling Championships four times (1986, 1991, 1995, 2001). The total attendance figures for the 1995 (80,389), 2001 (79,477) and 1991 (70,163) NCAA Championships rank ninth, 11th and 15th, respectively among NCAA Wrestling Championships. It also hosted the Big Ten Wrestling Championships three times (1983, 1994, 2005).

A preliminary U.S. Olympic Team Trials qualifying event for wrestling was held in Carver-Hawkeye Arena in 1984. Other major wrestling competitions held at Carver-Hawkeye Arena include two NWCA All-Star Classics (1993, 1996) and two Cliff Keen NWCA National Duals (1998, 1999).

The Field House at the University of Iowa hosted the first USA Wrestling Junior National Championships in 1971, and served as venue for the competition from 1971-1982. Iowa City also hosted USA Wrestling’s Greco-Roman National Championships three times (1975, 1977, 1978). Iowa City also hosted the 1983 USA Wrestling Freestyle World Team Trials.

Prospects Will Rosinsky, Juan Dominguez, Joel Castillo plus the return of Aneudi Santos highlight New Legend Boxing Promotions first ever boxing card.

QUEENS, NY (January 18, 2011)—On Friday night March 4th, The first ever show promoted by New Legend Boxing Promotions will take place at the Cordon Bleu Banquet Hall in Woodhaven, New York.

In the main event, former amateur standout and undefeated Super Middleweight Will Rosinsky will see action in an eight round bout against Alfredo Trevino.

“We are very excited about promoting our first event”, said Felipe Gomez, who along with Tony Giani, Mike Chapman and Kevin O’Sullivan comprise New Legend Boxing Promotions.

“We have had the New Legend Boxing Gym and we have lots of great talent there so promoting is the next logical step to showcase these young fighters.”

Rosinsky of Queens, New York is a four time New York Golden Gloves champion and a U.S. National Champion, and brings in a perfect ledger of 13-0 with seven wins coming via knockout.

He already has several signature wins which include decisions over Alexander Mancea (8-2) and Markus Gonzalez (7-2). In his last bout, Rosinksy scored a eight round unanimous decision over fellow unbeaten Yasin Rashid (7-0) on November 20th in Brooklyn.

Trevino of Sonora, Mexico has a record of 6-1 with one knockout.
Trevino won his first four professional bouts and only losing to currant world champion Rigoberto Alvarez (29-2).

Trevino has won two in a row which includes his last bout where he scored a six round unanimous decision over Vicente Silva (18-10-3) on November 12th in Mexico.

There will be three six round-co features that will have some great local talent on display.

In a Super Bantamweight bout, undefeated Juan Dominguez (6-0, 4 KO’s) will take on an opponent to be named.

Dominguez, a former Golden Gloves Champion has won his last four bouts via stoppage, and is coming off a second round stoppage over Johnny Rodriguez on December 19th in Dominguez’ native homeland of the Dominican Republic.

Joel Castillo (7-0, 4 KO’s) of the Bronx, New York will also see action in a six rounder.

Castillo is coming off a second round stoppage over Angel Gonzalez on December 16th in New York City.

After a four and a half year layoff, Light Heavyweight Aneudi Santos will return in a Light Heavyweight bout.

Santos of Freeport, New York has a record of 12-5 with nine knockouts.
Santos won his first ten fights and holds a victory over Aaron Norwood (21-3-2). He is coming off an eight round unanimous decision loss to John Vargas (17-1) way back on August 12, 2006.

Santos’ opponent will be named.

There will be seven four round bouts on the card.

In a Super Featherweight bout, George Santiago (1-1, 1 KO) of Brooklyn, NY will take on pro debuting Tyrone Brannon.

Super Featherweight Rafael Vazquez (3-0, 2 KO’s) of Brooklyn, NY will take on an opponent to be named.

Jr. Welterweight Jose Peralta (1-0, 1 KO) of Queens, NY will take on an opponent to be named.

Featherweight Kristian Vasquez (1-0, 1 KO) of Shirley, NY will take on an opponent to be named.

Pro debuting Heavyweight Vinny Celentano of Howard Beach will take on Richard Mason (0-2) of Long Island, New York.

Lightweight Edward Valdez (3-8-2, 2 KO’s) of New York City will battle Angel Torres (2-4-2, 1 KO) of Yonkers, NY.

Ladies Lightweight sensation Patty “Boom Boom” Alcivar (3-0, 3 KO’s) of Queens will see action in a Super Flyweight bout against Laura Gomes (3-2) of Sonora, Mexico.

FightZone TV To Sponsor Art Of Fighting Expo and Major Event At Florida State Fair

This historic event will be held during the closing weekend of the 13 day, 107th Florida State Fair in Tampa, FL on Friday and Saturday, February 18th and 19th, 2011. Eames And Earl Reunite – Four TKO Fighters On Earl’s York Hall Show This Saturday

Former WBU World Champion, turned boxing promoter, Graham Earl and his former coach Johnny Eames have rekindled a working partnership, which spanned more than six years as fighter-trainer team, and as a result there are no less than four of Johnny’s Ultrachem TKO Gym trained fighters appearing at Graham’s upcoming ‘Capital Punishment’ event this coming Saturday at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.

During their time together Johnny guided Graham to virtually every domestic title – Southern Area, British and Commonwealth – as well as the WBU World Lightweight Crown. Now with Graham as a promoter, Johnny is looking forward to working with Graham again, albeit in the revised roles of promoter-manager.

On Saturday night Johnny will have four of his youngsters supporting the headliner, the Southern Area Super Middleweight title clash between Portsmouth’s Paul Morby and Essex’s Daniel ‘The Slick’ Cadman.

Amongst these will be the exciting Dutch Cruiserweight prospect Mitchell Balker, who will be having his London debut, as will Ultrachem TKO’s latest addition, Dollis Hill based American Super Middleweight Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Oshunrinde. Whilst the Surrey based duo Danny ‘Cassius’ Connor and ‘Dynamo’ Daryl Setterfield will be getting their first outing of 2011.

Johnny took a little time off, between training his current crop of prospects, to talk about Graham and the Ultrachem TKO fighters who will be appearing this Saturday at ‘Capital Punishment’.

“It’s a pleasure to be working with Graham Earl, said the no nonsense Johnny Eames, “we worked together for a lot of years in the pros, six and half in fact and had some great years as a fighter/trainer and hopefully we’ll have a lot of good years together with him working as a promoter and us supplying some of the fighters.

It’s good to have new promoters on the block for people like myself who’s got a busy gym and a lot of the fighters are not with the big promoters. So people like Graham coming along is a breath of fresh air for the sport.”

Johnny then turned his attention to the four TKO trained boxers on Graham’s show, “With the help of our TKO Box Office website, which Rio (Publicist Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro) and myself put together some months ago, we are able to get people like Mitchell Balker, who’s a raw talent and coming along really nicely, enables us the chance to get them on as house fighters instead of being an opponent all the time.

He deserves his chance of being a house fighter. he’s a very dedicated boy, he never misses training and even when he has been ill I have had to make him take time off out of the gym to prepare himself properly. The kid deserves success and hopefully our TKO Box Office website will help the kid to get that success.

This is his first opportunity of being the house fighter going in against ‘The Ox’, Nick Okoth, and I’m pretty certain, as certain as I can be, that Mitchell will get his first win on British soil.

Moving on to Daryl Setterfield, who is taking on Jay Morris. Jay is a win some, lose some type of fighter like Daryl, and is expected to win. I’m 99% certain that if Daryl boxes to his capabilities he can upset the apple cart.

Onto young Danny (Danny ‘Cassius’ Connor), Danny’s boxing one of Graham Earl’s favourite boys, Terry Holmes, who’s had one and won it, beat Johnny Greaves. Again Danny’s got all the capabilities to beat young Terry.

I’m pretty certain it will be an entertaining fight for the crowd with a come forward fighter against a back foot boxer. Who knows anything can happen and I wouldn’t be surprised if Danny picks up his first win, although It’ll be a very, very tight one if he does.

Then we’ve got Manny (Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Oshunrinde), he’s not actually managed by the TKO, he’s managed by Graham Earl and is trained by Barry Smith at our gym. Graham asked Barry to train Manny for him. Barry has only had him for two weeks and hasn’t really been able to do a lot with him.

The benefit that Manny has had since he’s been coming to the TKO gym is he’s sparred every day whereas in the past he’s really had no sparring at all. Hopefully we’ll see a vast improvement from his first fight. Apparently he was winning until he ran out of steam. While Barry’s two weeks haven’t been able to have done much, we’ll see if the two weeks has improved him in that sense.

We’re all looking forward to a good night and wish Graham all the success.”

Lennox Lewis & Larry Holmes have Evander Holyfield’s back

Holyfield-Williams headlines Saturday night’s “Redemption In America’ PPV show

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 18, 2011) – Two of the all-time greatest world heavyweight champions, Lennox Lewis and Larry Holmes, will be special guests supporting their former rival, Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KOs), when the living legend defends his World Boxing Federation heavyweight title Saturday night against challenger Sherman “Tank” Williams (34-11-2, 19 KOs), live from America’s resort — The Greenbrier’s Colonial Hall — in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

“Redemption In America: The Journey Begins Now” Pay-Per-View event, headlined by the 12-round Holyfield-Williams main event, is presented by ARK Promotions in association with The Greenbrier. “Redemption” will be distributed in North American by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 9 PM/ET 6 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay per view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, Avail-TVN and DISH Network in the United States, as well as Viewer’s Choice and Shaw PPV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

“Redemption” will fuse world class boxing and entertainment; showcasing a production that includes high-energy music presented by Broadway performers, along with dancers and aerial artists. World-renowned saxophone player Clarence Clemons will also headline a live band between rounds and throughout the night.

In 1992, Holyfield won a unanimous 12-round decision against Holmes in their heavyweight unification title fight (WBC/WBA/IBF) at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Lewis and Holyfield fought to a 12-round draw in 1999 at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden for the WBC/WBA/IBF heavyweight crowns. Lennox won the rematch eight months later at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas by way of a unanimous 12-round decision.

Competitive, entertaining undercard fights will set the stage for the main event showcasing Holyfield on his journey to become the first heavyweight champion to regain the coveted world title four different times.

Joining Holyfield-Williams on PPV is World Boxing Federation Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion Travis “GW Hope” Kauffman (21-1 (16 KOs) versus 7’ 1” Julius “Towering Inferno” Long (15-14, 13 KOs) in an 8-round bout, former world heavyweight title challenger Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett (34-9, 20 KOs) takes on Charles Davis (19-21-2, 4 KOs), in a 10-rounder, and Lithuania-native Donatas Boundoravas (10-1-1, 3 KOs) and undefeated Detroit middleweight Willie Fortune (9-0, 5 KOs) open the PPV show with a scheduled 6-round match.

Fighting on the non-PPV segment of “Redemption” is NABA Heavyweight Champion Cedric “The Bos” Boswell (32-1, 25 KOs), rated No. 19 by the WBC, defending his title against Dominique “Diamond” Alexander (19-9, 9 KOs) a 10-rounder. Also on the undercard are a pair of 8-round bouts featuring unbeaten Detroit middleweight Domonique Dolton (9-0, 7 KOs) against Venezuelan veteran Marcos “The Terminator” Primera (20-22-2, 13 KOs), and 2008 US National AAU lightweight champion, Cleveland junior welterweight Miguel “Silky Smooth” Gonzalez (12-2, 11 KOs), meets 31-fight veteran Ramon “Che” Guevara.
