London Boxers Unite To Help 5 Year Old Cancer Sufferer On 7th of November

Esteemed boxing manager and trainer Johnny Eames is making an appeal for support, from the public and the boxing community, for a charity run at Central Park, Dagenham, this coming Sunday, the 7th November, in aid of five year old cancer sufferer Mitchell Huth.

Mitchell, who is the cousin of famous boxing brothers Kevin and Vinny Mitchell, was recently diagnosed with stage four cancer and is currently undergoing treatment at Great Ormand Street Children’s Hospital in London. If the current course of treatment is successful Mitchell will then be transferred to a specialist hospital in America for life saving treatment.

Johnny, who runs the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, East London, where the Mitchell brothers train at, explained how he became involved in raising funds for Mitchell, “I had a phone call from Alice Mitchell, Kevin and Vinny Mitchell’s mother, speaking about her young nephew Mitchell Huth, five years of age, who has been diagnosed with stage four cancer, it is operable but it’s quite an expensive operation that can only be done in America.

We are going to help Alice with her planned charity run on the 7th November at Central Park, Dagenham. I am going to try and get as many famous boxers involved, both actually on the day as well as raising funds to support the family that have been at Great Ormand Street by Mitchell’s side throughout.

Just today we have already had British Light Middleweight Champion Sam Webb, Kevin & Vinny Mitchell and everyone from the Ultrachem TKO and Jimmy and Mark Tibbs stable have put their names down to take part. I know that by the end of the day we’ll have a lot more.

We’re hoping that people will come out on the 7th to support the boxing stars runners on the day, by making donations.

I know it’s short notice but this is one of those cases were things move fast and we’ve had to react to this now.”

Before leaving his Dagenham home to go and be by Mitchell’s bedside Kevin Mitchell spoke briefly on the phone, “Vinny and me will both be there and I know a lot of our boxing pals will also.

If you can get to Central Park (Dagenham) on Sunday the 7th November please do as any money we raise on the day will make a big difference.”

The run to raise funds for the family of Mitchell Huth will be at Central Park, Dagenham on Sunday 7th November and starts at midday.

NEW YORK (Nov. 1, 2010) – Two fights have been added to an exciting STRIKEFORCE Challengers event Friday, Nov. 19, at Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Miss., live on SHOWTIME® at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

STRIKEFORCE formally announced today that power-punching Jan “Cuddles’’ Finney (8-8) of Springfield, Ohio, will be opposed by unbeaten Liz “Girl-Rilla’’ Carmouche (4-0) of San Diego, Calif., in a key women’s match at 135 pounds (welterweight) and Caros “The Future” Fodor (6-2) of Seattle, Wash., will throw down with Derek “The Pretzel’’ Getzel (2-1) of Andover, Minn., at lightweight (155 pounds).

In the main event, lightweight star and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro (20-4) will take on Justin “The Silverback” Wilcox (9-3) of Cincinnati. Another televised fight will feature former University of Tennessee linebacker Ovince St. Preux (7-4), of Knoxville, Tenn., who will be seeking his fifth consecutive conquest inside the distance when he faces Antwain “The Juggernaut’’ Britt’’ (11-4) of Virginia Beach, Va., in a light heavyweight (205 pounds) scrap.

The MMA fight card is presented by Rockstar Energy Drink and will mark STRIKEFORCE’s initial foray into the state of Mississippi.

The winner in what will be an excellent women’s fight stays alive for a world title shot in STRIKEFORCE’s wide-open, contentious 135-pound division. The STRIKEFORCE champion, Marloes Coenen, is scheduled to make her first defense against No. 1 contender Miesha Tate in 2011.

Finney’s nickname belies her attitude and fighting style. “I’m far from cuddly. I’m more like a bull in a china shop,’’ she said.

This will mark Finney’s return to her natural weight of 135 pounds. In her last start, the strong striker and one of MMA’s most determined practitioners lost a toe-to-toe-slugfest with STRIKEFORCE Middleweight (145 pounds) World Champion and the No. 1 female fighter in MMA, Cris Cyborg, last June 26.

Finney’s record belies her abilities. Aside from Cyborg, her losses have come against top fighters such as Tate, Julie Kedzie and Erin Toughill. All the fights went to the judges’ scorecards. The Cyborg defeat was only the second time she’d been stopped on strikes.

Finney’s most noteworthy victory came on a decision over Adrienna Jenkins (17-2 going in) on March 27, 2010.

Carmouche is coming off a second-round TKO over Valentina Shevchenko on Sept. 30. In her outing before last on Aug. 13, Carmouche went the distance for the only time in her career, scoring a unanimous decision over Colleen Schneider in a “reserve bout” in the STRIKEFORCE single-elimination women’s 135-pound tournament, which was won by Tate.

In the 5-foot-5 Carmouche’s other fights, she won by second-round TKO in her pro debut last May 29 and by second-round submission (armbar) over Margarita de la Cruz the following June 26.

A 25-year-old of Lebanese descent, Carmouche was born in Okinawa, Japan, and currently resides in San Diego. She spent seven years in the Marines during which she toured The Middle East.

Carmouche trains at Undisputed Fitness and Training in San Diego with Manolo Hernandez and Baret Yoshida, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion.

Fodor, a 5-foot-9, 26-year-old who is trained by Matt Hume and fights out of AMC Kickboxing and Pankration, is a well-rounded fighter known for his mental toughness and ability to finish.
A winner in six of his last seven fights, Fodor won via decision for the first time when he earned a unanimous points victory over Thomas Diagne in his last outing last July 23 on STRIKEFORCE Challengers. Afterward, he apologized for letting the fight go to the judges’ scorecards.

“I really don’t have an excuse, I was a little bit off,” said Fodor, who dominated and had Diagne in serious trouble on a few occasions. “I apologize for that. I don’t like decisions. I want to end all my fights.’’

Fodor, whose brother, Ben, also fights MMA, wrestled in high school but entered the Marines six days after graduation. While he was in boot camp, the terrorist attacks of 9/11 occurred and he was sent to Kuwait for the Iraq invasion. He returned home in 2003 after one tour.

After an extensive, successful amateur career in which he was the Genesis Fights MMA and Muay Thai champion and Revolution submission champion., Fodor turned pro in September 2005.

Outside the cage, Fodor, who once had his sights set on becoming a homicide director, is a trainer at a health club and works with mentally challenged kids while remaining active in the reserves.
Getzel is a 5-foot-7, 23-year-old Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu specialist. He’ll be making his STRIKEFORCE debut and first start since defeating Johnny Case on a career-best first-round TKO last Feb 26.

“I’ve very excited about finally getting this opportunity for STRIKEFORCE,’’ said Getzel, who registered a 4:11, first-round TKO (punches) over Dustin Petron on Nov. 25, 2009.

Getzel turned pro on Sept. 12, 2009.

NEW YORK (Nov. 1, 2010) – Unbeaten Ryan Couture (1-0) has been forced to withdraw from the STRIKEFORCE Challengers event Friday, Nov. 19, at Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Miss., due to a staph infection, STRIKEFORCE announced today.

The son of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) legend, Randy Couture, is expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks.

The 28-year-old Couture, a member of Las Vegas, Nev., based Xtreme Couture, won his STRIKEFORCE and MMA pro debut with a 1:15, first-round submission (triangle choke) over Lucas Stark last Aug. 13 on STRIKEFORCE Challengers.

“I was really looking forward to fighting so this is a big disappointment, but I’ll be back,” said Couture. “As soon as I’m cleared, you can bet I’ll be back in the gym preparing for my next STRIKEFORCE fight.”

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 1, 2010) – Puerto Rican superstar and WBO featherweight world champ Juan Manuel Lopez and Mexican legend and future Hall of Famer Rafael Marquez participated in an open workout at Fortune Gym in Hollywood on Monday, just five days before their rivalry fight on Saturday, Nov. 6, LIVE on SHOWTIME® (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

One of boxing’s fastest rising stars, Lopez (29-0, 26 KOs), of Caguas, Puerto Rico, will attempt to make the third defense of his WBO crown. The 27-year-old champion has registered an astounding 26 knockouts in 29 professional fights. The power-punching southpaw will now face the toughest and most important test of his career in Marquez, a battle-tested great with a relentless desire to win at all costs.

Marquez (39-5, 35 KOs), of México City, a former IBF bantamweight (118) champion, cemented himself in boxing lore when he moved up to 122 pounds to take on Israel Vazquez in what became an unforgettable four-fight series that saw each warrior win a pair of battles. The 35-year-old is coming off a third-round knockout of Vazquez in the final installment of the series in only his second fight at featherweight (126). “It’s definitely not going to be an easy fight. Marquez has been in some wars, so that’s what I’m preparing for.

“I had a real good camp in Puerto Rico and then in Las Vegas last week. I’m definitely ready to get in the ring.

“I think sometimes if you knock out a guy like this early in the fight then the people won’t be happy. I’m hoping this will be a real long fight so people can see it and enjoy it.

On the Puerto Rico-Mexico rivalry:
“I think it is the biggest rivalry in boxing. We’ve had some great fights, but it’s not just the fights. We’ve also had some great fighters, some true legends.

“Facing a guy like Marquez makes the fight that much bigger. It does carry a lot more weight for me than any regular fight. This is much bigger than that.”

RAFAEL MARQUEZ:
“I feel good at this weight. I’m happy to finally be here.

“I think the key to this fight will be conditioning. Whoever is better conditioned to go the 12 rounds will be the winner.

“I’ve fought guys with great records before. If you know what you’re doing in the ring and you’re smart you won’t have any problems. So I’m not worried about him having a perfect record.

DIAZ – LUCERO FIGHT OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE NOW AVAILABLE ON DEMAND ON GFL

This past Saturday night, undefeated Featherweight Jorge “King” Diaz and former world title challenger Emanuel Lucero waged a ten round war at Ballys in Atlantic City before Diaz was awarded a unanimous decision in a bout that will be on the short list for Fight of the Year.

The two took turns dominating the action as it was Diaz who used slick boxing and punching skills to have the advantage over the first half of the fight. Lucero showed a veteran’s heart and courage as he began to press the action and land heavy shots on the undefeated Diaz.

The effects of the shots caused Diaz to begin to bleed from his nose and he was in for the roughest fight of his young pro career.

In the end, Diaz hung on to win by scores of 99-92 on two cards while Steve Weisfeld’s 96-94 tally was more indicative of the close battle.
Diaz of New Brunswick, New Jersey improves to 15-0 while Lucero, who has been in the ring with Manny Pacquiao & Daniel Ponce De Leon is now 23-5-1.

The co-feature saw Ronald Cruz come from behind to score an upset as he shocked former two-time National Golden Gloves champion Jeremy Bryan in round six of their scheduled eight round Jr. Welterweight bout.
Bryan gained the upper hand in the first two-plus rounds as he used his blazing speed and used angles that befuddled Cruz. In round three, Cruz started working the body in an effort to slow down the nifty Bryan.

That strategy worked as Bryan began to slow down in the fourth as he started getting tagged with regularity. In round five, Cruz hurt Bryan and then dropped two times as Bryan barely made it out of the round. In round six, Cruz trapped Bryan in the corner and dropped him for a third and final time before the bout was stopped.

Cruz is now 10-0 with seven knockouts. Bryan falls to 14-2.

Manny Pacquiao’s chief sparring partner, Glen Tapia remained undefeated as he scored a hard fought unanimous decision over Quinton Whitaker.
Tapia used his range to land some solid one-two combinations against the awkward Whitaker.

Scores were 59-55 on all cards for Tapia, who is now 8-0.

In other bouts, Jason Escalera remained undefeated as he went to 10-0 with nine knockouts after scoring a second round stoppage over Cleony Fuqua in a Super Middleweight bout.

Jose Peralta Alejo knocked Christian Martinez from the ranks of the undefeated by scoring a four round unanimous decision in a Jr. Welterweight bout.

Martinez had Alejo hurt in round two, but Alejo was able to hold on and get out of the round and then displayed crafty boxing moves to take the final two rounds.

Both fighters now sport 4-1 record.

Anthony Caputo Smith needed just eight seconds to dispose of Brian Bernard in a scheduled four round Light heavyweight bout.

Caputo Smith is now 7-0 with five knockouts.

Evolution Combat Sports Championship hosted a very exciting night of fights at the Curry County Event Center in Clovis, New Mexico on Saturday night. The New Mexico based mixed martial arts fight organization shined at their debut event, delivering a first-rate mixed martial arts production to the fans in attendance and to those who watched “Evolution 1” live on internet pay-per-view. A total of seventeen compelling amateur and professional fights kept fans on the edge of their seats as they enjoyed this first rate MMA event.

MC Ian Troy commanded attention inside of the cage, while a very knowledgeable and entertaining four-man commentary team kept fans informed throughout the night. The commentary team, consisting of radio personalities Crisco Kidd and Sal Mora, and professional mixed martial artists Coty Ox Wheeler and Abel Cullum, sat ringside as they called the action for the “Evolution 1” pay-per-view broadcast.

Yassine El Maachi Says “I’ll Destroy Colas – He’s Never Seen A Fighter Like Me”

On Saturday Yassine El Maachi left his London home to travel to the Scottish Highlands, for a four week training camp to prepare for his upcoming first defense of the International Master Light Middleweight title, against European Number 4 ranked Jimmy Colas, at the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘JUDGEMENT DAY’ super show at York Hall, London, on the 4th December.

This will be the first time in Yassine’s career that he has undergone such a preparation. He will leave his wife and two young children behind as he embarks on a challenge which he hopes will culminate in a World title shot in the coming year or so.

Yassine, along with trainers Don Charles and Kevin Merrie, will be joining British & Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion Dereck ‘Del Boy’ Chisora as he prepares for his 11th December showdown with IBF, WBO & IBO Heavyweight Champion of the World Wladamir Klitschko.

In true ‘Rocky’ style the London based Moroccan has seen his career change from ‘journeyman’ status – where he was “required” to lose to keep busy – to genuine World title prospect in just two years.

Back in 2008, shortly after teaming up with Don Charles and Kevin Merrie, Yassine scored a sensational second round knock out of Kevin Concepcion which consigned his days as a journeyman to the past.

Even after such a convincing win fights were still hard to come by. Apart from Mick Hennessy, who gave Yassine some small undercard bouts, the promoters just didn’t seem to want to work with this entertaining London based Moroccan affectionatly known by his fans as ‘The Showman’.

Before leaving for Scotland Yassine explained how the circumstances changed that now sees him on the verge of breaking onto the wold stage and his upcoming fight aginst Jimmy Colas. “Twelve months ago I was on the verge of quitting boxing and then my trainer Don Charles introduced me to Steve Goodwin.

Don and his friends had known Steve personally for 25 years and told me that he was a man of his word and would help me.

Steve only took out his promoters licence 7 months ago but to sign with Steve is a decision I do not regret one bit. Before I signed with Steve no-one wanted to box me and my career was heading nowhere.

Then in April this year I defeated Bertrand Aloa to win the International Masters Light-Middleweight title. I accept this is not a highly regarded belt but not having a UK passport meant the only title I could fight for was the Southern Area apart from the Masters. Both George Hillyard and Steve O’Meara chickened out of fighting me for the title because they both know I would toy with them and knock them out.

I was hoping in July to box for the ABU title in Morocco but the Moroccan promoter let me down. Steve had given his blessing for me to take this fight but 6 days before the bout they called it off.

However Steve has unveiled a gem and got the European number 4 over for me. I know this is costing him money and I really appreciate him backing me like this. No one has ever done this for me before and I will repay him by putting on a fantastic show and destroying Colas.

Colas has never met a fighter like me before and I will use angles and frustrate him and ultimately toy with him. Colas is a similar type of boxer to Matthew Hall and I would have knocked out Matthew Hall. Unfortunately Kocelny got there first.

The problem is not having a British passport, no leading promoter would have me. I was turned down for Prizefighter because of this and the winner Prince Arron is not fit to be my sparring partner. He is tall but all that means is he would fall harder when I land on his glass jaw and knock him out.

The British Boxers know that I would beat all of them so they wont risk it against me. However by the end of 2011 they will have to as I force myself into the world top 20.
With the backing of Steve Goodwin the sky is the limit. Lennox Lewis made Frank Maloney and I will help make Steve Goodwin to repay him for what he does for me.

I am hoping that after beating Colas that in March I will face an even higher calibre of opponent. Steve has been talking with a big named former WBA World Champion who is considering boxing me in March and Hassan Bayran (world number 16) is also on the agenda.

The British Light Middleweights will watch as we fight home and abroad using unconventional methods to get me to the titles. When I get there other promoters, who would not touch me before, will come knocking but I will work alongside Steve only.

Yassine El Maachi defense of his International Masters Light Middleweight title, against the seriously tough France based Haitian Jimmy Colas at the Steve Goodwin promoted “JUDGEMENT DAY” double title event at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday the 4th December 2010.

Co-headlining ‘Judgement Day’ will be Ryan ‘Mr Attitude’ Barrett who will be defending his newly won International Masters Lightweight title, against a yet to be named opponent.

There are no less than twelve top class support fights including the highly anticipated all girl Featherweight clash, rescheduled from September 11th, between Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym’s Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston, and the highly experienced Welsh battler Lana Cooper.

Another rising star from Johnny Eames’ Ultrachem TKO Gym stable on the show is the ever stylish crowd pleasing Featherweight ‘Saint’ George Jupp, against a yet to be named opponent.

Fresh from his superb victory, over veteran Hastings Rasani, the highly popular Essex Cruiserweight Tony ‘The Conqueror’ Conquest will again be in action and looking to extend his unbeaten record against a yet to be named opponent.

Tony’s gym mate, the highly entertaining Welterweight John Wayne Hibbert, will be making his welcome return to the York Hall. The Stetson wearing Hibbert is an all action fighter with a knockout reputation – four stoppage finishes in his six outings to date.

Waltham Abbey’s Phil Gill, AKA ‘The Experience’, will be looking to increase his unbeaten record to seven, whilst Light Middleweight War Lord Michael ‘The Zambezi Hitman’ Norgrove will be looking to take his unbeaten record to four.

Bethnal Green’s own Jamie Arlain gets his second outing, as is Islington’s John ‘The Gorilla’ Ryder, who will be looking to emulate his stunning debut victory. So far Ryder has had just 90 seconds of ring action. That’s right it took him just half a round to beat the hapless Ben Denghani into submission.

Another single fight veteran with an early knockout record is Ely, Cambs Light Welterweight Tyler Goodjohn. His first victim, Dale Hutchinson, staying the course 264 seconds longer than Denghani did with Ryder.

Rounding out the show are three debutants. Super Featherweight Richard Hines, Light Welterweight Charlie Kelly and Ultrachem TKO Gym’s Super Middleweight Brett O’Callaghan.
