Event will feature “Royal Flush” fight card

Apple Valley, CA (USA) – Tedd Williams and Soboba Casino are proud to present the “Extreme Sports Festival” on Sunday, October 24th in San Jacinto, California. This incredible day of action is an all-day event that will feature Grapplapaloosa, a no-gi grappling tournament for men, women, and children of all ages. In addition, there will be a California State Amateur MMA Championship event, which is also open to men, women, and children of all ages. Last but certainly not least, Tedd Williams’ Gladiator Challenge will present a pro MMA show that will showcase over twenty professional mixed martial arts bouts. Former world champion Ivan “Choko” Hernandez (27), ranked #10 by the WBC and WBO, had an open workout today in Orlando in preparation for his WBO Jr. Featherweight title challenge this Saturday night against defending champion Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. (19-0-1-16 KO’s), of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, at the 10,500 seat Silver Spurs Arena of the Osceola Heritage Park in an event billed, “The Rising Son Returns,” promoted All Star Boxing.

Welterweight rivalry gets a second spark at Bragging Rights

The first fight ended with plenty of heated controversy and lingering doubt.

The second one will settle the score once and for all.

With a stellar lineup already coming into play for MFC 27: Bragging Rights, the Maximum Fighting Championship is furthering bolstering the season-finale card by adding a much-desired rematch that will see Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (12-3) meet “The Secret Weapon” Pete Spratt (21-18) for a second time.

Ford vs. Spratt II will highlight the stacked roster of fights, including the MFC welterweight clash between Douglas Lima and Jesse Juarez, all slated for Friday, November 12 at the River Cree Resort and Casino, just outside Edmonton, Alberta, and live on HDNet Fights.

“The electricity, the anticipation, the atmosphere in the building when Ford and Spratt first fought was so unbelievable. And it’s going to be 10 times more spectacular this time around,” said Mark Pavelich, Owner/President of the Maximum Fighting Championship.

“These two guys couldn’t stand each other from the start and I don’t think it has tapered off one bit over the last two years. There’s so much animosity left that Part 2 is going be even more exhilarating.”

These two welterweights stirred up plenty of bad blood in the lead-up to MFC 15 and it carried over into the ring. In Round 1, Spratt dropped Ford with a stiff kick but Ford battled back to gain top control as the first stanza neared its end. But clearly after the bell rang to conclude Round 1, Ford cracked Spratt with two elbow strikes that left the 11-year veteran nearly unconscious.

Spratt courageously opted to continue though it was clear he was feeling the effects of the late – and non-penalized – blows. Ford didn’t hesitate, capitalizing on Spratt’s state and he secured a standing rear-naked choke for the tapout win – a victory that catapulted Ford into a shot at the MFC’s 170-pound title.

While angered by the outcome, Spratt, who fights out of San Antonio, Texas, put his game back together and reemerged under the MFC banner in dynamic fashion. First, Spratt launched his comeback at MFC 22 when he locked up the MFC’s 2009 Knockout of the Year honor by crushing Nathan Gunn with an uppercut that brought a devastating end to their bout in the second round. Then Spratt further staked his claim at redemption when he used all of his veteran savvy to hold fort against Luigi Fioravanti through two rounds at MFC 25 before putting “The Italian Tank” away with another Knockout of the Year candidate.

Spratt’s career resume is an impressive read of opposition including Georges St. Pierre, Josh Koscheck, Carlos Newton, Robbie Lawler, Yves Edwards, John Alessio, Rich Clementi, Chris Lytle, and Marcus Davis. Spratt is one of the most-feared strikers in all of mixed martial arts and has racked up 11 knockouts to his credit.

Ford is well-known to MFC fans who have seen him develop as a prospect, take part in two welterweight title matchups, and return to the organization at MFC 26 where before a sold-out crowd he was forced to tapout via armbar against current title contender Douglas Lima. Highly regarded for his fast-paced attack, Ford has a relentless pace, power, and aggression all of which combine for a crowd-pleasing style.

MAAC’s Meghan Bertovich Looking for Volunteers for NCAA D1 Championships

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, which will be held at the Wells Fargo Center March 17-19, is seeking volunteers throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region to assist with logistics during the three-day competition.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with thousands of fans attending the championships from throughout the country. 330 student-athletes from more than 60 programs will participate in the event. Volunteers will receive an event t-shirt for their contribution.

Valentine Pulls Out Of Ochieng Rematch – Randell Replaces On Oct 16th

Curtis Valentine has pulled out of the planned rematch with sensational Light Middleweight prospect Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng on Saturday’s ‘True British Fighters’, double title event, headlined by Sam Webb vs Martin Concepcion British Light Middleweight title fight, at The Troxy, London E1.

Valentine’s withdrawal has firmly shut the door on the mouthwatering prospect of an early repeat of their full scale war, back in may, in a bout billed as ‘The Battle Of The Undefeated’. On that occasion the stylish Ochieng emerged victorious over the heavy hitting Valentine by a tidy 39-37 points margin.

With Valentine out of the frame promoter Frank Maloney has drafted in Tony ‘TNT’ Randell, an experienced domestic championship campaigner, having previously held both the British Masters Middleweight title and the BBBofC Midlands Area Middleweight title, which he lost to Matt Hainy on his third defense just ten days ago.

Following a training session, at the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, the ever smiling Ochieng gave his view on Valentine’s withdrawing, “It doesn’t matter, There’s another opponent already arranged. He pulled out of the fight, I don’t know why, but he was gonna lose anyway. I mean I’m in top condition and I’ve improved a lot from my last fight.

I put on a good performance against Alex Spitko (Editors note: 4th round stoppage and voted Fight of the Night) You know, everyone liked the fight and you know what not a lot of people want to fight me now.

So I say it’s all good, although the next fight is just a four rounder not the six I had planned for.

I don’t know much about Tony Randell, but that doesn’t matter I’m prepared. I leave no stone unturned. I’m ready, I’m ready. The Eagle is ready.

I’m gonna win it, if I stop him it’s additional credit, if I put him away I put him away. I don’t get paid for extra time. If he goes before four rounds so be it. Either way it’s gonna be a win and I’m gonna make sure my supporters get their money’s worth.

The Eagle is rising and I’m coming to rule.”

Ochieng’s manager/coach Brian Lawrence then added, “Yeah, they said it’s because of work commitments.

I watched the fight again on DVD I thought he wouldn’t be up for this fight. It’s a hard match for him. I just couldn’t see him taking Erick on in a six rounder.

Now we’ve got Tony Randell, you know he’s a durable Middleweight. We’re fighting at Light Middle. He’s a good opponent for Erick and I’m expecting a good fight.

The downside is that it’ll be four threes, whereas we wanted to push him up to six threes. On the night though we’ll just take care of the business.”

Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng versus Tony ‘TNT’ Randell will be on the under card of the Frank Maloney promoted ‘True British Fighters’ double title show headlined by Sam Webb’s defense of his British Light Middleweight title against Martin Concepcion.

Co-feature on the October 16th at The Troxy, Commercial Road, London E1, show is Jamie Arthur and Kris Matthew Hughes who will be battling for the vacant Commonwealth Super Bantamweight title.

The loaded undercard features, in addition to Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng versus Tony Rendell, a heavyweight triple bill starring David Price, Tom Dallas and Damian Campbell plus Joe Hughes, Shane Enright, Lewis Pettitt, Ashley Sexton and Martin Welsh all against yet to be named opponents. Super-Featherweights to make Prizefighter debut on November 20

Choi, Buckland, Ohara and Lawton lead charge in Britain’s hottest weight division

The Super Featherweights get their first outing in the Prizefighter series in the next event at York Hall, Bethnal Green on November 20.

WBU Featherweight champion and fans favourite Choi “The Mongolian Warrior” Tseveenpurev heads the initial line-up for the 15th edition of Barry Hearn’s eight-man, one night tournaments live on Sky Sports.

Choi knocked out Derry Mathews in the fifth round of their title fight in Bolton to claim the belt in 2008, and has fought twice since, beating Lubos Priehradnik in July 2009 and Mickey Coveney this June. Previously the Mongolian Warrior – who was awarded with the title of ‘State Honoured Athlete’ in his native country by the President – won the WBF title in 2006 and successfully defended it twice.

Joining the 39 year-old in the early line-up is Gary Buckland, the 24 year-old who pushed John Murray to the 11th round in their European Lightweight title fight in June and Northern Irishman Kevin O’Hara who lost a fight for the British Super Featherweight title in May. The fourth fighter to sign up to the event, hot on the heels of Michael Sprott’s victory in the sold-out Heavyweights IV night on Saturday, is Scott Lawton, a European and British title challenger – the rest of the line up will be announced shortly.

JESSE BRINKLEY AND PROMOTER, A SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP

October 12th, 2010, Montreal — On October 15th, IBF super-middleweight mandatory contender, Jesse Brinkley (35-3, 22 KOs), will face champion Lucian Bute (26-0, 21 KOs) in Montreal, Canada. Brinkley’s rise to a world title shot may have never happened if it were not for the partnership he found with Reno, NV based promotional firm, Let’s Get It On Promotions.

In early 2007, Brinkley was at a low point in his career. He lost two fights on national television and his future looked bleak. Most, including Brinkley himself, thought that his career was over. Meanwhile, Terry and Tommy Lane, who had taken over their father’s promotional company, were looking to get started.

“We needed a headliner for our first show. It just made sense to have Jesse fight in Northern Nevada again.” Says Let’s Get It On Promotions’ Terry Lane.

The birth of the careers for two young promoters meant another chance for Brinkley. While the rest of the boxing community had written him off, he could still fight in his hometown area in front of the friends and family who had supported him from the beginning.

“We matched him against a good fighter, Dallas Vargas, for his return. Jesse dominated Vargas, and we sold out the venue. It was clear that Jesse still had the goods, and was an attraction in Reno. We knew that we had something special.”

That was just the beginning. Soon, Brinkley went on a sensational winning streak. With Let’s Get It On Promotions, he became a regional champion, world ranked, and in contention for big fights and title shots.

Brinkley’s career was resurrected, and the Lane brothers, sons of world renowned referee, Mills Lane, realized their dream of becoming successful boxing promoters.

The relationship between Brinkley and the Lane family became more than just a business partnership. Let’s Get It On Promotions, who are known for maintaining a lean stable of fighters, developed a close friendship with Brinkley.

“All of our mentors advised us to not have personal relationships with our fighters. That’s just not possible for Tommy and me. Jesse is a special person. He became a member of our family.”

“We do a lot together.” Says Brinkley. “We love to eat sushi, bet on football, we even went on a family vacation to Disney World together. We talk almost every day.”

Brinkley and the Lane’s found each other at the right time. A couple of years ago, many would’ve never expected that Jesse Brinkley would be fighting for the super-middleweight championship of the world, nor would they have expected that Let’s Get It On Promotions would be major players in professional boxing. But more importantly, perhaps, tight bonds transcending boxing were made.
