Steve Bunce presents the top ten moments from the first two series

Before the return of Prizefighter on Saturday October 9, Sky Sports celebrates the top ten moments from the first two series in Prizefighter – No Guts, No Glory on Wednesday October 6.

Acclaimed boxing pundit Steve Bunce presents the 90-minute long show on Sky Sports 2 at 9.30pm, with a countdown of the top ten moments from the 13 nights of dramatic action in the first two series.

The show is also now available on Sky Anytime.

There have been many magic moments since the opening night in April 2008 and the organisers Matchroom Sport have picked their top ten, including Martin Rogan becoming the first Prizefighter title, Daniel Cadman’s ferocious second round start against the last champion Patrick Mendy and Audley Harrison’s vital win to start him on the road to a world title shot.

The 14th edition of Barry Hearn’s eight-man, one night tournaments sees former European, Commonwealth, British and English champion Matt Skelton open the action against Londoner Ali Adams.

The victor in that fight faces the winner of the second bout of the night between Kevin McBride, the Irishman who was the last fighter to beat Mike Tyson and Franklin Egobi, the Tooting fighter.
The third quarter-final pits Michael Sprott against Danny Hughes for the right to face either unbeaten Irishman Declan Timlin or Shane McPhilbin, the 24 year-old Nottingham boxer fighting for the fourth time in his career.

Graham Earl Takes Championship Boxing To Northampton On October 16th

Former World Champion Graham Earl brings Championship boxing to Northampton on Saturday 16th October. Earl, who is now promoting boxing events, will be presenting a night of boxing, at Northampton Cricket Ground in Northampton.

Co-headlining Earl’s ‘JUDGEMENT NIGHT’ event will British Masters Light Welterweight Champion Jay Morris, who will be defending his title against Gavin Deacon, and Paul Morby who will be battling it out with Steve Timms for the vacant British Masters Super Middleweight title.

The main support to the double title header will be a rematch between Jamie Boness and Ryan Clarke. The exciting undercard also features Manny Oshunrinde against Matt ‘Firefighter’ Jack and Jermayne Smyle against a yet to be named opponent.

‘Judgement Night’ will also see the professional debuts of Ian Boyd, Joe Hillerby and Terry Holmes.

Co-Main Event Pitting DC vs. Baltimore Fighters Set for Nov. 6 on Jimmy Lange Boxing Card at the Patriot Center

FAIRFAX, VA (October 6, 2010) – Looking to capture his 40th career win in front of his hometown fans, former three-time, middleweight world champion William Joppy (39-6-1, 30 KOs) of Washington, DC will step back into the ring at the Patriot Center on Saturday, Nov. 6 to face Baltimore bruiser Cory “Black Ice” Cummings (17-4, 13 KOs). The 10-round bout will serve as the co-main event on the Jimmy Lange Boxing card promoted by Ice Promotions and presented by Valcourt Building Services.

Now fighting out of Woodbridge, VA, where he serves as a trainer for LA Boxing, Joppy is one of the most distinguished boxers to hail from the Nation’s Capital. In 1996, he captured the World Boxing Association’s (WBA) middleweight crown with a TKO victory over Shinji Takehara and went on to face a ‘who’s who’ in the middleweight division during his career. Among the opponents he faced were world titleholders Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins, Felix “Tito” Trinidad, Roberto Duran, Howard Eastman, Lucian Bute, Jermain Taylor and Julio Cesar Green.

Joppy lost his last fight, a 10-round decision to Sebastien Demers in Montreal, March 26, 2010.

Looking to spoil Joppy’s homecoming is the powerful Cummings, who is coming off a grueling ninth-round TKO win over Demetrius Davis for the Maryland State Super Middleweight title in May 2009. The Baltimore boxer should provide a tough test for Joppy, just as he did in a loss to another former DC middleweight world champion, Keith Holmes, in 2006. Cummings faced another former world titleholder, Montell Griffin, in 2008.

Jimmy Lange (33-4-2, 23 KOs) will battle Joe Wyatt (23-1, 15 KOs) for the North American Boxing Association’s (NABA) vacant 154-pound U.S. title in the evening’s Main Event. Jimmo declines title fight: Contender refuses to face Teixeira and is benched for MFC 27

Ryan Jimmo’s decision not to accept a certain opponent has not just cost him spot on the next MFC card but more importantly a shot at the MFC’s light heavyweight title.

Jimmo (13-1), who is riding a 13-fight winning streak, declined an offer to face Brazilian striker Glover Teixeira at MFC 27: Breaking Point which will take place on Friday, Nov. 12. There was no question in anyone’s mind a showdown between Jimmo and Teixeira (10-2) would make for an action-packed title fight – except for one person.

Jimmo wasn’t interested in fighting Teixeira and bizarrely backed away from the bout as well as the shot at the crown.

“I have the utmost respect for Ryan Jimmo but I think he is making a huge mistake by not taking this fight. I can’t figure out why someone would turn down a title fight,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich.

“You don’t get to choose who you are going to fight for the title. The best opponent possible is going to be put in front of you and that’s the fight. Unlike the vast majority of other mixed martial arts companies, our organization puts a lot of value on our title belts and on our champions. That’s why you don’t see fighters were unqualified records fighting for MFC titles.

“If you want to be an MFC champion, you are going to have to fight the best guy. You don’t get to pick your spots here. I don’t think Ryan has looked at the big picture. He and his team are focused on where Glover has fought and whether he’s been on TV or not, and because of that Ryan is missing out on a great opportunity.”

Pavelich noted that this is the first time in the 10-year history of the MFC that a fighter has not accepted a title fight based on who the opponent was slated to be.

“I question why Ryan Jimmo would say that Glover Teixeira wasn’t worthy of a title fight. If I was Jimmo, I’d be willing to back up that statement in the ring, not run from it afterwards,” said Pavelich, who added that Teixeira is still going to fight on the MFC 27 card.

“My responsibility is to the fans of the Maximum Fighting Championship and choosing Glover Teixeira to fight Ryan Jimmo makes sense. Glover has won eigh in a row and Ryan is on a great streak too. A lot of people said Pat Healy didn’t deserve a title fight against Ryan Ford because not many people had heard of him. But Healy came here and beat Ford – twice.

“Patrick Cote didn’t choose to fight Jason MacDonald in the very first MFC title fight. That’s the fight he was offered, he accepted it, and won the fight. The same goes for Antonio McKee, Roger Hollett, Emanuel Newton – none of them hand-picked who they were going to fight. Those guys all took whoever was thrown in front of them and went about their business as professionals.”

Returns To The STRIKEFORCE Cage

San Jose, Calif. (Oct. 4, 2010) – Lightweight star and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro will take on Justin “The Silverback” Wilcox of Cincinnati in the headlining fight of a STRIKEFORCE Challengers event on Friday, Nov. 19, at Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Miss., LIVE on SHOWTIME® at 11 p.m. ET/PT, (delayed on the West Coast).

In a featured televised bout, unbeaten lightweight Ryan Couture (1-0) will face an opponent to be determined. The son of legend Randy Couture won his STRIKEFORCE and MMA debut with a 1:15, first-round submission (triangle choke) over Lucas Stark last Aug. 13 on STRIKEFORCE Challengers.

The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will mark STRIKEFORCE’s initial foray into the state of Mississippi.

A special ticket pre-sale for “STRIKEFORCE Insiders” begins this Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. CT and ends Thursday at 10 p.m. Fans can sign up to become an “Insider” at www.STRIKEFORCE.com.

Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. CT at all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Coliseum box office and Be-Bop Record Shops, by phone at 800-745-3000 and online at Ticketmaster.com and STRIKEFORCE.COM.

Ribeiro (20-4) is a decorated submission expert and one of the top 155-pounders in MMA. He won the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championship four times, once as a purple belt in 1996 and three times as a black belt in consecutive years (1999-2001).

His 20 victories include 14 stoppages (12 by submission) and he has defeated, among others, such notable fighters as Joachim Hansen, Eiji Mitsuoka and Mitsuhiro “The Endless Fighter” Ishida.

Ribeiro’s losses have come against some of the division’s most talented practitioners — Tatsuya Kawajiri, Gesias “GZ” Cavalcante and, Shinya Aoki, in the DREAM Grand Prix finals July 20, 2009.

Shortly thereafter, Ribeiro, 31, underwent successful eye surgery. He returned to the cage last May 15 and lost a controversial split decision to undefeated Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm in St. Louis, Mo.

Wilcox (9-3), a 31-year-old former NCAA wrestling star and bodybuilder, has won his last four starts. In his most recent outing on March 26, he registered a unanimous decision over Shamar Bailey at STRIKEFORCE Challengers in Fresno, Calif.

A member of San Jose, Calif.’s Team AKA, one of the most fearsome fight teams in the world, Wilcox wrestled for Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he befriended teammate Josh Koscheck, who turned his college wrestling buddy on to MMA and eventually brought Wilcox into the AKA family.

Wilcox’ first most noteworthy victory came on Aug. 30, 2008 when he scored a unanimous decision over Gabe Ruediger, a contestant on season 5 of Spike’s The Ultimate Fighter reality series.

The younger Couture is a member of the Las Vegas, Nev., based Xtreme Couture fight team. Before impressively winning his pro debut, the 28-year-old compiled an amateur record of 5-1-1 with all five wins coming by submission.

Couture, whose parents split up when he was in the sixth grade, spent his high school years in suburban Seattle. With his father being a former wrestling coach at Oklahoma State University, Couture naturally developed into a talented high school wrestler.

Following high school, Couture enrolled in Western Washington University in Bellingham, where he graduated in 2004 with a mathematics degree. He worked at a local bank until he realized his desire to work in the family business.

Couture began MMA training in 2006, working diligently to mature into a well-rounded fighter, adding Muay Thai and a dangerous submission game to his repertoire. In January 2008, he moved to Las Vegas to train with his father. He has had access to a who’s who of MMA royalty as training partners and coaches, which, coupled with a solid amateur career, has given him the background and confidence to take his fight career to the next level

Doors at Jackson Convention Complex will open at 6:45 p.m. CT. The first non-televised preliminary bout will begin at 7:30 p.m. The first fight on SHOWTIME will begin at 9 p.m.

IMPRESSIVE VETO CRUSHES MAOJA IN ONE

Gabor Veto needed just 31 seconds to defeat Rajabu Maoja in the first round winning the vacant Central African & Eastern title in Nairobi, Kenya on October 2nd.

Maoja was floored by a lightning-fast left-right combination after just a few seconds and the African fighter never recovered.

Maoja rose but was unable to continue the fight against the undefeated Hungarian prospect. The referee Francis Orlando waved the contest off after just 31 seconds.

Veto, 21, the WBC Youth World lightweight champion, improves to 20 wins and 15 knockouts from 20 fights.

“It was very explosive, it was just what we asked for,” Varpalota’s Veto informed K24 Sport.

“We had too much dynamite for this guy. After the first shot I could see his legs buckling.”

The 34-year-old Maoja came with a record of 16-7-3, 5 KOs into the fight and was expected to make a contest of it in Nairobi’s slums of Kibera, Kenya.

Maoja previously fought battles against one of the Philippine`s top contenders in Eric Canoy and former WBC World champion Veerapol Sahaprom from Thailand.

Veto started fast and jumped all over Maoja from the opening bell, sending Maoja to the canvas with devastating right hand.

Maoja was unable to continue the fight. Kenyan referee Francisco Orlando stopped the contest, the African spectators celebrated the WBC no. 21 ranked lightweight Veto`s win.

Veto defeated Tanzanian Omari Ramadan in April and claimed the WBC Youth lightweight crown, he then stepped up in weight with an impressive victory on the Klitschko-Peter undercard over German’s undefeaded Philipp Schuster in September.

There are rumours of a match against a former World champion towards the end of the year.

New Boxing Ticket Sales Website – TKO Box Office – Launched

A new Boxing specific ticketing website – www.tkoboxoffice.com – has been launched by renowned Boxing Manager/Trainer Johnny Eames and Sports Publicist Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro.

TKO Box Office, which was developed to promote ticket sales for boxers based at Johnny Eames’ Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym, will initially be offering tickets for UK Boxing events, before rolling out worldwide in early 2011

On making the announcement, founding partner of TKO Box Office, Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro said, “The whole concept for TKO Box Office first came up when we were promoting the Ultrachem TKO Gym’s Charity Football Tournament, in aid of the Indee Rose Trust, back in July.

We set up a basic ticket sales section on my PR site and were taken aback by just how many tickets were sold on-line for this event.

We then decided to offer tickets for the gym’s fighters on Steve Goodwin’s September ‘It’s Personal’ event on-line. Again we got a good response so decided to create a specific site.

Originally the site was just going to just be selling tickets for the boxers based at Ultrachem TKO Gym, but various promoters have since shown interest in us selling tickets for their events as well. This prompted us to make some minor changes and develop TKO Box Office as a boxing specific site offering tickets for Boxing events countrywide.

In the near future we are planning to start offering tickets for events worldwide, probably as early as January 2011 as the secure e.ticket we have been developing is almost ready for testing.

Even though the site now has a wider format we are sticking one hundred percent with the original premise of promoting ticket sales for individual boxers associated with the Ultrachem TKO Gym. Professional boxers are required to sell tickets for events they box at and as such we will always highlight and feature our fighters when promoting events they’re fighting at on the site.

Our aim is to help individual fighters and promoters increase their ticket sales and in doing so make TKO Box Office the number one boxing ticketing site, bar none.”

On launch TKO Box Office is offering tickets for six upcoming events:

Matchroom Sports PRIZEFIGHTER – HEAVYWEIGHTS 4 at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 9th October, which features Ultrachem TKO Gym’s Ali Adams, former WBU Heavyweight Champion Matt Skelton Kevin McBride, Franklin Egobi, Michael Sprott, Danny Hughes, Declan Timlin and Shane McPhilbin.

Miranda Carter’s Left Jab Promotions ‘10: 10: 10:’ event, featuring the BBBofC Southern Area Cruiserweight title battle between Leon ‘Solid’ Williams and JJ Ojuederie, on Sunday 10th October also at York Hall, which also features Ultrachem TKO Gym’s ‘Dynamo’ Daryl Setterfield and Cassius Connor.

The Frank Maloney promoted ‘TRUE BRITISH FIGHTERS’ event, headlined by the British Light Middleweight Title fight between Sam Webb and Martin Concepcion, at the Troxy, in Limehouse, London on Saturday 16th October. Which also includes Light Middleweight sensation Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng, who is managed/trained by Brian Lawrence at The Ultrachem TKO Gym, in a rematch with Curtis Valentine.

Tickets available from TKO Box Office are not restricted to London venues as tickets are also available for the Graham Earl promoted ‘JUDGEMENT NIGHT event, in Northampton on Saturday 16th October, which features British Masters Light Welter-weight Champion Jay Morris defending his title against Gavin Deacon, and is co-headlined by Paul Morby and Steve Timms who will battle it out for the vacant British Masters Super Middleweight title.
