AUGUST 13TH BOXING SHOW POSTPONED TO THURSDAY AUGUST 26TH AT THE ARENA IN SOUTH PHILADELPHIA

PHILADELPHIA (AUGUST 6, 2010)–Next Friday night’s big boxing event at The Arena in South Philadelphia has been postponed until Thursday night August 26th at the same venue.

The card, which will feature Philly favorites such as Victor Vasquez, Coy Evans, Tommie Speller, Derrick Webster, Angel Ocasio, Keenan Smith and Jackie Davis will go on with a bell time at 7:30pm.

The card is promoted by Blaine Garner’s Shalyte Promotions in associationm with SAM Promotions and all tickets that were purchased for the 13th will be honored on the 26th.

Jeremy Struemph, State Record Holder, Most Jumps In One Day, Kansas, goes for new Record

Approximately 10 years ago 2008/2009 Kansas Wrestling Official of the Year Jeremy Struemph lost his mother to Pancreatic Cancer.

In early October 2000 Jeremy received a call from his dad, telling him he was going to have to come home to get a shot, which totally confused him. After discussing it a little more he found out that his mom was in the hospital and they thought she may have Hepatitis and the shot was just a cautionary effort. On October 10th the family headed to the hospital, which they assumed was for a shot. They headed into their mom’s room and they knew something was wrong. She was horribly jaundice. He knew this wasn’t just a case of hepatitis….

The doctor sat the family down and Jeremy’s father told them that their mom had cancer. Jeremy’s mind was blown, he had just seen her a few weeks earlier and she was fine. The doctor went on to explain that mom had Pancreatic Cancer. The doctor had little confidence that she’d make it much longer. After checking with the Mayo Clinic and a few other places the family was informed that her cancer was too advanced. She didn’t qualify for any treatments at that time. They had 2 options….a round of chemo which may give her a month or two of additional times, but she’d be weak or she could go home and have a better quality of life.

Jeremy’s Mom said she wanted to be home, so that’s the route they went. The cancer spread fast, it was truly unreal. On November 10, one month after the diagnosis she passed away.

Jeremy holds the current 1 day jump record standing at 53. Thursday, August 12 at Approximetly 6:00 AM Jeremy and the staff and volunteers of Skydive Kansas are teaming up with PanCan.org for Cancer 101 to raise awareness and funds for Pancreatic Research. Jeremy will be attempting to do 101 jumps for the cause. Jeremy stated, “There are times when we have an opportunity to be part of something that is bigger than us and this is one of those times”.

Boxers & Celebrities Turn Out For Charity 20/20 Cricket Match Saturday 14th August

On Saturday 14th August Former British & European Super Middleweight Champion James Cook, along with many local boxers and boxing & TV personalities will be taking part in a Charity 20/20 Cricket match, at Beckley Park Cricket Ground, Rectory Lane, Beckley, to raise funds for Tenterden Amateur Boxing Club, Pedro Amateur Boxing Club and Beckley Park Cricket Club.

Amongst the well known boxers Joining James Cook are British Light Middleweight Champion Sam Webb, former British & Commonwealth Super Bantamweight Champion Michael Alldis, Former British Champion and World Title challenger Ali Forbes, former British Light Middleweight champion Gary Woolcombe and former British title challenger Derek Grainger.

Also from the world of boxing top coaches Johnny Eames and Alan Smith and referees John Lewis and Geoff Hines will also be taking to the pitch. The boxers team will also include Eastenders star Sylvester Williams.

Speaking at his world famous Ultrachem TKO Gym, in Canning Town, esteemed champion coach Johnny Eames said, “Obviously after our fundraising event, on behalf of the Indee Rose Trust, it’s nice to show our support to James and be involved in his charity event to raise money for such a good cause.

James is leading the way by organising this even to raise funds for two upcoming amateur boxing clubs. They are an important part of our sport and without our support these amateur clubs will just fade away.” and then cheekily added, “Hopefully we’ll get to be the first to see their future stars.”

This is a truly special event. Mixed martial arts icons Randy Couture and Dan Henderson have thus far avoided an in-cage confrontation during their legendary careers, but in August, the pair will be represented in an epic clash.

What was originally announced as a five-on-five competition has now grown to a massive eight-bout contest. Eight fighters from Couture’s Las Vegas-based Xtreme Couture camp will clash with eight combatants representing Henderson’s California-based Team Quest academy in a showdown for the ages, and in addition to respect and bragging rights, Tuff-N-Uff’s featherweight title also hangs in the balance.
