A future Hall of Famer who is undefeated in two bouts at STAPLES Center against Oscar de la Hoya and Antonio Margarito, Sugar Shane Mosley (46-6, 39 KO’s) returns to his Southern California backyard for the first time since his dominating ninth round knockout performance against then Welterweight World Champion Margarito in January of 2009. A future Hall of Famer, Mosley has already earned six world titles ruling the lightweight, welterweight and junior middleweight divisions over his storied 16-year career. He has defeated the likes of De La Hoya, Fernando Vargas (twice), Luis Collazo, Ricardo Mayorga and Margarito. Looking to put his recent loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May of this year behind him in short order, Mosley returns quickly to action as he continues to take on every challenge the sport has to offer. On September 18, his challenge will be turning back the extremely hungry and talented Sergio Mora.

East LA’s own former Junior Middleweight World Champion Sergio Mora (22-1-1, 6 KO’s) last fought at STAPLES Center in 2005 when he scored a thrilling split decision victory over Peter Manfredo in a rematch of his final bout championship win of the first season of the reality series “The Contender” during which Mora became a household name to millions of fans. Going unbeaten in his next four fights, Mora began to rapidly climb the junior middleweight ranks, eventually earning a shot at the junior middleweight world title held by the late Vernon Forrest in June of 2008. Mora seized the opportunity and won the title via majority decision, but would lose a close decision to Forrest in a rematch three months later. Mora returned to the ring in April of this year and defeated hard-hitting Calvin Green with an impressive seventh round knockout. He now looks to take down a legend in Sugar Shane Mosley and become the first fighter of Mexican descent to defeat the future Hall of Famer.

Unbeaten in 34 pro bouts, but still only 20-years-old, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (33-0-1, 25 KO’s) has broken into the elite level of the welterweight division in 2010 with knockout wins over Brian Camechis, Jose Miguel Cotto and Luciano Cuello. Mike Mollo returns home

NEW YORK (Aug. 3, 2010) – Chicago heavyweight “Merciless” Mike Mollo (20-3, 12 KOs) returns home Friday night to fight Gary “Pit Bull” Gomez (18-11-1, 7 KOs) in an 8-round bout at the UIC Pavilion Center.

Gomez, former WBC Continentals and GBU Cruiserweight Champion, replaced Franklin “Yah Yah” Lawrence. Mollo returns to the UIC Pavilion, where he defeated Billy Zumbrun this past March 26 by 8-round unanimous decision, after Mike had been inactive for 1 ½ years.

“It’s always great fighting at home,” Mollo said from his West Palm Beach (FL) training camp. “I always know that there’s going to be a packed house there rooting for me.”

Harris vs. Aguilera in Minnesota

Boxing 360 has another heavyweight fighting Friday night, veteran Maurice “Sugar Moe” Harris (23-14-2, 10 KOs), winner of the 2002 Thunderbox Heavyweight Tournament.” Harris takes on IBF #15 rated Nagy “Dominican Dynamite” Aguilera (16-3, 11 KOs) in a 12-round bout for the USBA title, in Hinkley, Minnesota.

The 30-year-old Mollo’s most notable victories to date have been against former Olympians, Mike Tyson-conqueror and former Irish heavyweight champion Kevin McBride and Canadian Art Binkowski. Mollo has also extended multiple world title challengers Andrew Golota and Jameel McCline the full 12-round distances, respectively, in their WBA Fedelatin and WBC Eliminator fights.

“I expect Mike to be in an aggressive, all-attack fight from the first round on,” Mollo’s trainer Pete Brodsky added. “He’s trained hard, working on his in-fighting and his ability to navigate inside. Most importantly, he’s been working at a quicker pace. I expect to see a good brawl.”

Miller expecting war with Saraiva

Lemoore, Calif. – Micah Miller vows that he won’t be caught off guard if he’s in the third round of a back-and-fourth war in the cage with Diego Saraiva.

“I’ve seen him fight wars and I know what to expect. I won’t be caught in the third round with blood dripping down my face wondering what’s going on,” said Miller (14-4) of Athens, Ga. “I’m prepared for a war with Diego.”

Last time Saraiva (18-9-1) was in action at Tachi Palace Fights, he was in the midst of a bloody battle with Las Vegas, Nev. featherweight Eddie Yagin (13-4-1). The Atlanta, Ga. veteran went on to defeat Yagin via doctor’s stoppage in the December bout.

For Miller and Saraiva it’s a long time coming, as both came up fighting on the Georgia fight circuit and have been offered fights several times to fight each other, but the bouts never came to fruition.

“I know a lot about Diego, we came up in the Atlanta scene at the same time. He has great jiu-jitsu and is real creative and does a lot of stuff with his guard that people can’t do,” said Miller, who has won four of his last five bouts.

“Diego has good kicks and is really durable. I’ve watched him fight in some of the Georgia shows and show some serious heart. He won’t fold and he won’t break. He is a really tough fighter.”

Miller is coming off of a knockout victory over St. Cloud, Fla.’s Bruce Connors (8-2).

“I feel like this is the same as any other fight,” Saraiva said. “I respect Micah as a fighter, but I will do my best to get the win. There’s not much of a rivalry, but more so I don’t want to lose to anybody from my area. They’ve tried to set this fight up a couple of times, but it never happened. I’m glad the Palace has given me this opportunity.”

Miller feels similar, saying “There’s no animosity with Diego at all. I like Diego, but once he made the move to 45 I knew that at some point we would fight each other.

It’s a fight that’s been offered before, but the offers just weren’t good enough at the time for us to fight each other.”

But with the chance to move in as the No. 1 contender in the Tachi Palace Fights featherweight division on the line, both fighters are ready for the opportunity. The winner will take on Tachi Palace Fights Featherweight champ Isaac DeJesus (9-2) in December.

“I just see a real tough, drag ‘em out kind of fight. Diego is real hard to finish,” Miller added.

In the main event, Visalia, Calif. middleweight Doug Marshall (12-3) puts his 5-fight win streak on the line against Sacramento, Calif.’s Kyacey Uscola (18-15). Marshall is currently unbeaten in the middleweight division. Meanwhile, Uscola is coming of a stint on Spike TV’s “The Ultimate Fighter” show.

In the co-main event, Huntington Beach, Calif. lightweight “Razor” Rob McCullough (18-6) is back in action against Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Corey Hill (4-3) of Brooksville, Fla.

Luke Campbell’s Olympic Dream Back On Track After Huge Win In Cardiff. Set To Fight Again This Weekend.

2008 European Bantamweight Gold Medalist Luke Campbell’s 2012 London Olympic dream is well and truly back on track. Following his successful return to International competition last week at the WBC Night Of Champions in Cardiff, Luke is set to be back in action again this weekend at the Four Nations Challenge in Sheffield.

Last week, In front of a myriad of WBC World Champions including Heavyweight Champion of the World Vitali Klitschko, Luke convincingly won his Featherweight (57kg) fight, against China’s Jun Tan by a 11-5 points margin to place himself firmly back in contention for selection to the British Olympic Boxing Squad for the 2012 London Olympics.

Luke, a two-time ABA Champion, made history by becoming the first British boxer to win a European gold medal for 47 years following his magnificent defeat of the highly experienced Bulgarian Detelin Dalakliev to secure the Bantamweight (54kg) title at the European Championships in Liverpool in November ‘08.

His long awaited return to International competition follows a year long sabbatical from the sport as he recuperated from major tendon surgery. The injury to his knuckle tendon occurred whilst at a training camp in Kazakhstan, in March ‘09.

Luke spoke briefly on his return to Team GB’s training base in Sheffield, “I was asked on the Wednesday if I was interested in fighting in Cardiff, at the WBC Night of Champions, on Friday. Of course I said yes. I have been ready and wanting to return to international duties for a few months now.

The first round was quite close, he (Jun Tan) was really patient, you know just waiting, looking to counter me. I have to admit I was quite nervous as it was my first international in like a year. It showed and it was 3-3 after the first round.

I changed tactics for the second round. I got my range sorted and started attacking him more. I’d get in, hit him, then get out quick. It was working well. At the end of the second I was up 9-4.

I changed things again for the third. I started putting him on the back foot which opened things up so I could stay in there and let off two shots. It was the same for the fourth really, I just boxed him and covered up when I needed to.

I think I boxed really well. I’m really happy and now I’m going to build on this and just get better and better. My goal is London 2012.

I really enjoyed the night. It was great to win, but the highlight of the day for me was meeting my hero ‘Hands of Stone’ Roberto Duran. That was special. I also got to meet many other stars like Zab Judah, ‘Bonecrusher’ Smith and more. It was awesome.”

Luke will be back in action again this weekend at the Four Nations Challenge – International Amateur Boxing Tournament – at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, Coleridge Road, Sheffield.

The Four Nations Challenge will take place at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield Saturday 7th (Semi Finals) & Sunday 8th August (Finals). This International Amateur Boxing Tournament features teams from Great Britain, China, France & Khazakhstan.
