June 7, 2010- Des Moines, IA- MaxFightsDM/Glory Fighting Championship have enlisted the assistance of two of Iowa’s most popular media outlets to support the July 9 Maximum Glory event to be held at the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines. The twelve bout event features two title bouts where Eric “Little Lee” Wisely vs. Lonnie Scriven and where Benly Xamonty goes for the title against Brad “Bad Boy” Floyd.
Cityview, Central Iowa’s free independent weekly newspaper, is the official media sponsor of Maximum Glory and will produce a custom section in the publication placing focus on the event, it’s fighters, and the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA). Cityview has been published for 16 years and is read by over 70,000 people each week. “ MMA is increasingly growing in mass appeal and we feel it has reached the point where many of our diverse group of readers are interested. ‘Razor’ Rob seeking another highlight reel finish

Lemoore, Calif. – The last few times “Razor” Rob McCullough saw action at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif. he was walking away from the cage as one of the world’s top lightweights.
The Huntington Beach mixed martial artist’s brutal destruction of Randy Hauer at World Extreme Cagefighting 20 was his final bout at the Palace, but it was the world-class kickboxer’s vicious knockout of Olaf Alfonso that the fans still remember.
“It’s going to be a lot like the last time that I was out at the Palace,” said McCullough, who has won two of his last five fights in the WEC to some of the top up-and-coming fighters.
“We will get in the cage and trade. Have a fast-paced, exciting fight and I’m going to walk out with my hands high and he will be on a stretcher.”
McCullough (17-6) will make his Tachi Palace Fights debut in a 160-pound, catch-weight fight against Fresno, Calif.’s Isaac DeJesus, who grew up idolizing McCullough.
“That’s the guy I looked up to when I was coming up. A lot of guys have their heroes and their idols and Rob was that guy for me,” said DeJesus, who is the current Tachi Palace Fights World Featherweight champ.
“That’s why when I heard Tachi had signed Rob; I called Jeremy (Luchau) right away and asked for the fight. I mainly wanted to fight him out of respect and I thought it would be an honor. I didn’t care about having to come up in weight… this is just something that I wanted to do.”
DeJesus (9-1) would have to come up 15 pounds to meet McCullough, who had originally signed on to fight Thomas Denny. But when Denny pulled out due to personal reasons, DeJesus got the call.
“I probably would have never called Isaac to fight Razor had he not called me initially and asked to fight him. It’s not like having your 145-pound champ go up and fight a former lightweight champ in one of the world’s top promotions is the greatest idea,” said Tachi Palace Entertainment Coordinator Jeremy Luchau.
“But honestly, I could tell how much Isaac really wanted that fight so I gave him the opportunity and he jumped on it right away. I think it could possibly be one of the biggest fights that we’ve had at Tachi in a long, long time and that’s saying something.”
McCullough and DeJesus will main event a loaded 9-bout card that also features UFC veteran Brad Blackburn of Seattle, Wash. against Las Vegas, Nev. welterweight John Alessio. Alessio (28-13) is riding a 4-fight win streak and on the verge of breaking into the UFC. Meanwhile, Blackburn (15-11-1) has dropped two straight in the UFC after a 3-0 start on the world’s biggest stage.
“This is one of the most stacked fight cards that I’ve ever been a part of,” Tachi Palace Fights matchmaker Richard Goodman said. “From top to bottom we have exciting fights that feature former UFC and WEC stars and some of the best locals around.”

Most eyes will be centered on the main event and to see McCullough makes his return to action and which fighter shows up. He’s trying to bounce back after a split decision loss in November 2009 to Karen Darabedyan (9-2).
“I’ve been training my butt off. I started this camp 10 weeks out and I’ve been working on sharpening all my skills,” McCullough said. “It’s good to be back fighting at the Palace, I have some great memories fighting for the WEC there and I just love it there.
“I know this kid is scrappy and likes to stand in there and trade. He is coming off a knockout of Nam Phan and Nam’s a tough guy,” McCullough added.
The spotlight won’t solely be on McCullough, though.
“I’m going to have my people there from both Stockton and Fresno to watch me get in there and fight this guy,” DeJesus said. “It’s an honor just to be in there with a fighter like Rob. I’m really not that uncomfortable with the weight, because I started as a 55’er. For me to get in there and fight at my best really won’t be an issue.”
DeJesus is also coming off a minor injury that forced him to pull out a May bout against Fresno, Calif.’s Casey Olson. But DeJesus says the injury has completely healed.
“I’m doing everything the same. I’m working hard on my cardio and technique. The only thing I’m doing a little different is a little heavier lifting and sparring and rolling with a little heavier guys to help me adjust to Rob’s size. Rob will have the experience edge over me, but I’m young and hungry.”
The 9-bout card is also packed with three title fights, as welterweight champ David Mitchell (10-0) of Santa Rosa, Calif. defends his belt against Lemoore, Calif.’s Poppies Martinez (18-6) and bantamweight title holder Cole Escovedo (16-4) of Fresno, Calif. defends against Oakdale, Calif.’s Michael McDonald (9-1). Also, Rancho Cucamonga Calif.’s Gabe Ruediger (16-5) and Albuquerque, N.M.’s Lenny Lovato (8-0) battle for the Tachi Palace Fights vacant lightweight strap.

Audley Harrison vacates European belt

A-Force closes in on 2010 World title shot
Audley Harrison has vacated his European heavyweight title, opening the door to a showpiece World title fight when he makes his return from injury in October.

The 38 year-old had an operation on a pectoral muscle last month to correct the injury that forced him to fight one-handed against Michael Sprott from the fourth round of their European title bout at Alexandra Palace in April. The injury hampered Harrison for the remainder of the fight until he produced a stunning last-gasp knockout victory to land the title he is now surrendering.
Harrison has a number of options available to him for his early winter return, with his promoter Eddie Hearn saying there is potentially Britain’s biggest fight ever against David Haye in the pipeline.
“Everyone wants to fight Audley because they know what he brings to the table,” said Hearn. “He will be installed as the mandatory challenger for the European title but we are also in discussions with the Klitchko’s and Adam Booth and David Haye regarding a World title shot later this year. We are keeping our options open right now but the Haye fight is huge. Audley’s last two appearances in the UK have attracted record viewing figures, so couple that with David Haye’s popularity and this is the biggest fight the UK has ever seen.”
Harrison’s career has been a roller-coaster ride since he turned professional after claiming Olympic gold in 2000. The Londoner has been in the headlines throughout his career, winning the WBF heavyweight title before sparking rivalries with Danny Williams and Sprott. After to moving to America, a chance meeting with Hearn in Las Vegas saw Harrison sign-up for Prizefighter, scooping the title at ExCeL in October – and he says he is ready to grab the headlines again by taking a shot at the world title.
“I’m told by my promoters that both David Haye and the Klitchko’s brothers have expressed an interest in facing me when I return after rehab,” said Harrison. “If it’s either Klitchko brother, the task will be hard, but that’s how I want it. I respect both brothers as they are effective at what they do but both can be beat. As I said before David Haye is a false Prophet, one punch on that chin and it will shatter like glass. If I was him, I’d keep running from the Klitchko’s and keep beating up on shop worn American heavyweights. Whatever the route I will find a way to fulfil my destiny and become Heavyweight Champion of the World.”

Joe Heiland, who was to face Derek Gauthier (6-1-0), has unfortunately suffered an injury during training camp (fractured hand), and will therefore be unable to compete in his schedule fight against the young Quebec star. In his place will be Torrance Taylor (8-7-1), a veteran of the Strikeforce Challengers series, and a fighter who has beaten such notable fighters as UFC veterans Luke Caudillo, Junior Assuncao and Jason Dent. Taylor did lose a fight to Heiland in 2008, which was followed up by a 2nd loss against Fabricio Cameos. He was able to bounce back by stopping Matt Covan in round 1 (submission due to strikes), but subsequently loss via split decision against Glenn Brown in his last MMA bout. Thirsting for a win, Taylor no doubt sees this fight against Derek Gauthier as an opportunity to get back to his winning ways. Despite the fact that Gauthier is coming off a win in an impressive performance against Jason Rorison, this will be a tough assignment for the young Quebec star, as Gauthier will be facing the most experienced MMA fighter he has ever competed against. Both fighters have agreed to a catch weight of 160 pounds.

World-class ‘Reno Xtreme Fights’ boxers to battle at Johnson v. Jeffries Centennial

RENO, NV (June 4, 2010) — A stacked card of world-class boxers will face off July 3 at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino as part of Reno’s centennial celebration of one of history’s most important sporting events — 1910’s Johnson v. Jeffries boxing match.
Reno native and super middleweight Joey Gilbert (19-2, 15 KOs), former Jr. flyweight champion Ulises Solís (30-2, 21 KOs) and undefeated up-and-coming middleweight Brandon “Flawless” Gonzales (12-0, 9 KOs) will all trade punches with competitors in the fifth installment of Reno Xtreme Fights.
“It’s a world-class card. It has some of the best fighters in the world,” said Let’s Get It On Promotions CEO Terry Lane, who along with Top Rank Boxing, is organizing the fight. “It feels great to bring a top card to Reno.”
The fights are at the heart of a three-day Fourth of July weekend celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the fight that pitted Jack Johnson, nation’s first African-American World Champion, against Jim Jeffries, a man known as “The Great White Hope.”
Johnson defeated Jeffries in 15 rounds to retain his heavyweight crown on a custom-made boxing ring in downtown Reno in front of more than 20,000 spectators. The 1910 victory sparked race riots across the nation, and changed boxing forever. Until Johnson took the heavyweight crown, boxing had never let a black boxer compete for the heavyweight title.
The July 3 fights — featuring Mexican, Filipino and African-American fighters —are a perfect tribute to what boxing has become following the historic Johnson v. Jeffries battle, said Lane.
“This card shows how ethnically and culturally diverse boxing is,” said Lane. “I think the card is a celebration of the multiculturalism of boxing.”
Joey Gilbert, who fights for Let’s Get It On Promotions, will face a yet-to-be-determined opponent in his first fight since an impressive knockout of Anthony Bartinelli in Reno May 23.
“He looked spectacular and he knocked out a very tough guy,” said Lane of the 33-year-old former NBC Contender cast member, Reno native and Nevada’s former Golden Gloves champion.
“He proved he has a lot left,” said Lane.
Middleweight Brandon “Flawless” Gonzales’ undefeated record will be on the line July 3. It’s his fifth time fighting in Reno, including a recent controversial decision over Isaiah McFadden, who knocked him down May 23.
“He’s returning to get that monkey off his back and show the Reno fight fans that he’s the best in the middleweight division,” said Lane.
Gonzales, who fights for Let’s Get It On Promotions, will meet James Parison (12-1, 3 KOs).
Mexican native Ulises “Archie” Solís, the current No. 1 IBF flyweight contender will also fight a yet-to-be-determined opponent. Solís, whose hard-charging, yet technical, style delivers a crowd-pleasing spectacle every time enters the ring, will look to notch his third win since a tough knock-out title loss last April to Brian Viloria. If Solís has a good fight July 3, his next bout may be an attempt to take back the flyweight title, said Lane.
“He has a typical Mexican fighting style,” said Lane of Solís. “He likes to be aggressive, to press and engage.”
Finally, a rematch of a razor close split decision between welterweights “Mighty” Mark Melligen (18-2, 13 KOs) and Michel Rosales (27-3, 13 KOs) is already being titled a “grudge match.”
Melligen, a native of the Philippines and veteran of the Asian Games, came up short against the aggressive Rosales in Las Vegas April 10, but will look for redemption July 3 in Reno.
The class of fighters battling it out in the ring July 3 demonstrates that Reno, just like during the Johnson v. Jeffries era a century ago, has the ability to showcase incredible boxing.
“It shows that Reno is one of the great fight towns,” said Lane. “It has been for 100 years and will continue to be. We have the ability to bring big network fights to Reno.”
The July 3 bouts will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net. All bouts are subject to change.

Mark ‘The Flash’ Alexander To Fight Sid Razak On June 19th

Following some rather swift last minute negotiations, with promoter Steve Goodwin, Hackney’s Lightweight contender Mark ‘The Flash’ Alexander is set to face Sid Razak on Goodwin’s “Summer Fight Night Explosion” on Saturday 19th June at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.
Last month, following his magnificent demolition of rising star Michael ‘Simply’ Devine, Alexander went on BBC London Boxing Hour, presented by Steve Bunce, and called out former English Champion Ryan Barrett. He got his wish, but not for right away, and will face Barrett as the headline on Steve Goodwin’s “It’s Personal” event on September 11th.
With the British boxing season rapidly coming to a close Alexander, who wanted to keep the momentum going, started looking for a June or July fight. With time running out Steve Goodwin stepped in to save the day, by adding Alexander vs. Razak to the stacked “Summer Fight Night Explosion” card.
Following an intense sparring session with the pitbull better known as Southern Area Lightweight Champion Ben Murphy at the Ultrachem TKO Gym in Canning Town, London, ‘The Flash’ spoke about the upcoming fight with Sid Razak, “I can’t thank Steve Goodwin enough for putting me on the June 19th show. It’s going to be a great show, I mean he has twelve quality fights on the card.
It’s important for me to keep active, I don’t want to be just sitting around. I’m in great form, the fight with Michael Devine showed that.
I mean he was being touted as the new Ricky Hatton. He’d stopped all his previous opponents. I was too elusive for him, he couldn’t land anything on me. Everyone was shocked when I put him down. I wasn’t – we’d been working on it. The only thing that surprised me was that the fight wasn’t stopped after I put him down for the second time.
He showed great determination by getting up each time. He fought hard even after the third knockdown, but I knew it was just a matter of time before I knocked him out rather than just down.
Since then Barry (trainer Barry Smith) and I have been working hard on things in the gym. I want to take it to another level, to do that I need to fight again soon.
That’s why I’m really looking forward to the fight with Sid Razak. He’s been in with Ryan Barrett so it makes a lot of sense to fight him.
That was a good win over Michael Devine but I’m going to make it great wins over Sid Razak and Ryan Barrett. Believe me ‘The Flash’ is back…big time.”

The card also features Daryl Setterfield, who recently knocked out the highly rated Darren Hamilton, against the experienced Matt Scriven.
Also a late addition to the card will be Alexander’s September 11th opponent Former English Champion Ryan Barrett, against a yet to be named opponent.
Former Olympic Bronze Medalist Boris Georgiev (Bobby George) will be looking to build on his excellent pro-debut win. As will the highly exciting Michael Norgrove when he faces the experienced Ryan Clark.
Rising stars Tony Owen, Joe St John and Bradley Evans will all be looking to increase their unbeaten records, whilst Welterweights John Brennan (opponent TBA) and Adam Battle, who will face Danny Dontchev, will be looking to impress on their pro-debuts.
Finally, Light Heavyweight Marco Stevenson will battle it out with Matt Jack.
